  1. Eng 45-9published at 18.1 overs

Boult does continue for another over at least.

Leg bye off the pads of Jimmy Anderson. England have equaled their lowest ever total.

  2. Eng 44-9published at 18 overs

    Overton 20, Anderson 1

Unlike almost all of his team-mates, Craig Overton is trying to get on the front foot and down the pitch to negate the late swing.

Here he comes again! Beautiful shot. Overton steps down the wicket and dispatches Southee just past the umpire's right ear for four.

One run needed to equal England's record low score.

The earliest a team has been bowled out is 18.3 overs which was the day Stuart Broad demolished Australia at Trent Bridge. A few more balls for England to survive here.

  4. Eng 39-9published at 17 overs

Yes Craig Overton! He smashes Trent Boult through mid-wicket for four. There's nothing to worry about out there.

England are scraping their way to their lowest ever total of 45. Can they make it?

That might be Boult's last over. He's being patted on the back by his team-mates. Nine overs, five for 25. Wow.

  5. Eng 35-9published at 16.4 overs

An edge for four from Overton and then two twos to the Somerset all-rounder.

This is now the second-highest partnership of the innings.

  8. Eng 27-9published at 16 overs

This catch is one you will see over and over again. It's being played again to the crowd and they're still "woaaaahing".

I'm not sure about Stuart Broad's reaction either. He's laughing in disbelief at the catch but I'm not sure you want to be smiling with your team 29-9.

What an amazing catch by the New Zealand captain! That was an absolute beauty. 27-9 - I can't believe I am saying that. It's been some good bowling but some of England's batting has been completely inept.

    Oh my! What. A. Catch!!

Let's take a moment from bashing England's batting to admire one of the greatest catches I have ever seen.

Stuart Broad decides swinging is the best option but gets a thick outside edge. Kane Williamson throws himself high to his left and plucks the ball out of the air one-handed. Simply sensational.

    Over to you, Jimmy.

England a complete shambles. I can't believe I travelled halfway around the world to watch this garbage!!

The humour of our texters really does get me through these England collapses.

I've live texted on England Test defeats to Bangladesh, South Africa, West Indies and Australia. I think we may have another to add to the list.

At 23-8 this was England's lowest ever total at the fall of their eighth wicket in Test history.

ENGLAND AVOID RECORD LOWEST TEST SCOREpublished at 15 overs

They've done it!!! Ironic cheers here in the office and ironic cheers at Eden Park.

A boundary from Craig Overton sees England limp past that record low score of 26.

27-8. A good game to win?

  17. Eng 23-8published at 14 overs

There's no getting the ball out of Trent Boult's hands. He starts his eighth over with figures of 5-9. What have you got, Craig Overton?

On the plus side at least I didn't wake up to another England collapse. It happened before I fell asleep this time.

In case you are rummaging around in your copy of Wisden searching for it, England's lowest Test total against New Zealand came at the Basin Reserve in Wellington in the 1977-78 series when they were dismissed for 64. England now have to find 40 runs to avoid that.

A reminder they still have three runs to get to better the worst ever total in Test cricket which is held by New Zealand against England funnily enough. That could be about to switch around.

This is an extraordinary Test. At this moment in time England would take getting anywhere near getting their lowest Test score against New Zealand.
