Malan c Watling b Boult 2 (Eng 16-3)
England are in huge trouble. Trent Boult is on fire. He's got another.
It's pretty similar to the Cook dismissal - full with a little bit of nibble. Dawid Malan, like Cook, plays from the crease and nicks off through to wicketkeeper BJ Watling, who takes a diving catch in front of first slip.
England are really struggling for timing on this pitch. Southee continues and Dawid Malan almost skews a catch straight to square-leg as he pulls.
Hmmm, maybe not. Mark Stoneman proves me wrong by crunching one right out of the middle behind square for an off-side four.

Richard Wilson: Genius from England, get out in 2 sessions so NZ need to start their innings with a new pink ball under the lights.
Stoneman 5, Malan 1
If England had any doubt about the size of the task they face in this series, they'll be fully aware now. Kane Williamson goes on the attack and brings in a fourth slip and a gully as Dawid Malan wanders out.
Malan gets off the mark and then Stoneman dispatches Boult to the mid-wicket fence for the game's first boundary.
Boult responds. A bouncer right at the throat. The crowd love it. England are under the pump.

This is an absolute beauty! It invited Joe Root to drive - he's not even got an inside edge on it. It's just a perfect left-armer's delivery to a right-handed batsman. It was full and swung just like the delivery to Alastair Cook.
Joe did not want to bat three before the series and definitely does not want to now. It was like Ryan Sidebottom at his absolute best.
Root b Boult 0 (Eng 6-2)
The Cook dismissal was good but this is even better. A picture-perfect left-armer's dismissal.
Full, swinging back in to Root and the ball goes between bat and pad and knocks back off stump.
The New Zealand players are sprinting after Boult in celebration. He's knocked over England's big two inside seven overs.
It's always a little shock to the system when you see the luminous pink ball flying through the air out of the bowler's hand.
Tim Southee's seam position is pretty much perfect as he tests Mark Stoneman's defence with another maiden.
Pressure on England.

Dennis Ward: Poor from Cook - didn’t look comfortable at all.
Stoneman 1, Root 0
Trent Boult is a brilliant bowler. He's so good I'll forgive him for having bright pink soles on his bowling boots.
The New Zealand fans in the ground are gasping again as he gets one to swing back into the pads of Root that the England skipper is a little late in getting his defensive shot on.
A wicket maiden.

Those who watched Alastair Cook play during the winter in the Ashes will be familiar with this dismissal. He's back in his crease and nicked off. He looks like a man who hasn't played much cricket. It was good pace from Trent Boult and a good catch from Tom Latham.
Cook c Latham b Boult 5 (Eng 6-1)
Beautiful from Trent Boult. Alastair Cook has looked a little uncertain and the Kiwi left-armer puts one right on the money from over the wicket. It's the perfect line and length. Cook has to play and a little bit of movement sees the ball take the edge and fly to second slip at a comfortable height.
Joe Root is in early at number three.
Cook 5, Stoneman 1
Aggers has mentioned Cook has been busy with the lambs on his farm and the opener has had just the two practice games since the Sydney Ashes Test.
So far that is showing with Cook looking a little sketchy. Full from Southee and England's former skipper lunges forward but inside edges his drive down to fine leg between his pad and the stumps. The slips have their hands on their head. Cook's living dangerously.
That's better. A more solid push to end the over and keep the strike.

It was a ball Alastair Cook should perhaps have played the cut shot to. He nearly came a cropper there. He misread the length and perhaps has made a decision in his head he wants to latch on to anything short and try to pull it.
Cook 3, Stoneman 0
You're a lucky man, Alastair Cook.
Trent Boult bangs one in a little short and Cook rocks back for a pull, usually such a safe shot for the England veteran.
This time though Cook skews his shot horribly and it goes in the air just to the right of the fielder at mid-on. Cook's heart must have been in his mouth there.

Alastair Cook, in case you are wondering, has been busy with the lambing season on the family farm while England's players have been busy with the limited-overs cricket.
Cook 2, Stoneman 0
That's what Kane Williamson wanted to see after electing to bowl.
Tim Southee starts from the opposite end to Boult and finds big swing with this pink ball with his first delivery. It's wayward and down the leg side but that'll encourage the bowlers.
Better line now from Southee. He tempts Cook into a mistimed drive and the three slip fielders clap in approval.

It's a small crowd at Eden Park at the moment. This is a real acid test for day-night cricket. Hopefully it will fill up later.
Jerusalem echos around the tall stands at Eden Park from the England fans but it's a quiet start on the pitch.
Trent Boult finds a little bit of bounce with his left-arm pace but Alastair Cook manages to get England under way on the fifth ball of the over with a trademark clip off the hip.

I would have played Malan at three and Root four. You don't want Cook and Root both facing the new ball against Boult.
