The most likely way to get Williamson out is run out.

The vast stands at Eden Park are starting to cast shadows on the outfield now.
Craig Overton and Stuart Broad are chatting with umpire Paul Reiffel concerning the condition of the pink ball, hoping to necessitate a change. And a change of fortune too you would imagine.
Overton's final delivery is a touch short and wide and Kane Williamson is on top of it and beautifully late cuts it for four.

Another Moeen Ali over is safely negotiated by Kane Williamson and Tom Latham with just one run from it. Well, Graeme Swann said earlier that we would be able to judge England's batting performance until both teams had batted on this pitch. I think we might have our answer early on. England, in their defence, have not actually bowled too badly.
Marvellous stuff Clive. I've played in Chile as it happens - one of the most spectacular grounds in world cricket in Santiago at the foothills of the snow-capped Andes. Thanks for texting in.

I captained a Chile XI vs Brazil some years ago. We were bowled out for 44 and they won by 9 wickets. This is bringing back all those nightmares.

It's a chastening day for England. They had some difficult days in Australia, but nothing like this.

Kane Williamson is looking in fine touch and could be on for a big score. A drive off the back off Anderson's first ball and then three balls later he times one to perfection and pierces the infield and the ball whistles away to the boundary. New Zealand now lead.
Williamson 33, Latham 22
A late cut from the left-handed Tom Latham off Moeen Ali brings him a couple of runs. Kane Williamson a little flat-footed when Latham calls him through for a single two balls later but he is safely home.
New Zealand are level with England's first-innings total.

James Anderson into the attack for his second spell, but New Zealand not taking any risks before the lunch break. Kane Williamson's defence as solid as the Maginot Line as he puts down the shutters. Another maiden.

Hi KP, any chance you could reconsider that "retirement"?

Moeen Ali round the wicket to Tom Latham and he is metronomic with his accuracy just outside off stump. After being spanked in that first over he is doing a useful containing job with the ball now and sends down a maiden over.
No sign of Ben Stokes by the way with the ball so far. He is struggling with a back injury so is only likely to be used sparingly, if at all, in this Test.

Stuart Broad has a mid-over conflab with Joe Root and the England captain makes a few tweaks to the field. Kane Williamson is very much in the zone. He gets on the front foot and punches a ball straight back past the England paceman but mid-on scampers round to stop it getting past the infield.
Williamson 30, Latham 19
Joe Root persists with Moeen Ali's off breaks. If Kane Williamson has looked a million dollars, Tom Latham has been a bit more scratchy. The opener uses his feet to a slightly loose ball from Moeen and works it through leg for two.
New Zealand trail England's first innings total of 58 by six runs. Yes, England made 58 if you are just joining us. That's not a typo.

That has been the difference. New Zealand's batsmen have got that stride in and got their foot to the ball like Williamson did there. The lack of foot movement contributed significantly to the England players' downfall.
Williamson 30, Latham 17
Stuart Broad back into the attack. James Anderson got the wicket earlier, but Broad looked the most threatening so no surprise Joe Root has turned to him here.
Kane Williamson is in a different place now, though. Broad slightly overpitches his second delivery and the Black Caps skipper's judgement is spot on as he punishes a half-volley with a sumptuous drive for four.
Williamson looks in good touch, which could be ominous for England.

Alexander Calvey: I’m an English ex-pat doctor currently working about 1 mile from Eden Park. Wish I was on UK time and still sleeping... getting all sorts of banter from my Kiwi colleagues!
Latham 17, Williamson 26
The spectators in the stands are starting to lounge back in their seats as the sun continues to get lower and lower in the sky. It's 17:30 GMT now. Not too long until that twilight period.
There's actually one section of the ground where the locals as spread out on bean bags to watch this game. There are worse places to be.
Woakes sixth over is another maiden, his third so far.

A bit of a mix-up in the calling between Kane Williamson and Tom Latham but fumbled Chris Woakes fumbles the ball at point and England are unable to shy at the stumps.
A much better over from Moeen Ali, although his final delivery is elegantly swept by Williamson and with no fine leg in place it races to the boundary.
