    Minimum 68 overs remaining

There's less than half an hour to go until the 20-minute interval but just four overs until the new ball. Moeen's going to be tested out by Southee and Boult before long.

Todd Astle is really struggling to find any spin. England milk four from the over.

It would be a good move for Moeen Ali to take on the hook I think. The pitch will let it sit up so he should put the leave away and he will be okay.

  3. Eng 190-5published at 76 overs

There's been something unusual-looking about Moeen that has been bothering me all Test and I've just realised he's now sporting a moustache as well as his bushy beard. Just thought I'd let you know.

Short leg and leg slip are in place as Wanger rushes in again. Moeen must know the bouncer is coming and there it is. Nasty. Moeen drops his hands but gets in a bit of a tangle and the ball clatters into his chest.

There'll be more short stuff to come I'm sure despite Moeen flicking a pull to the fence off the final ball of the over.

What can Astle produce now, buoyed by his second Test wicket? It has been indifferent so far but to be fair to him just before the wicket of Bairstow the actually bowled a really good wrong un that almost did for Bairstow.

With two left-handers at the crease Astle is round the wicket aiming for the footholes but there's still not a lot of spin. A single each for Moeen and Stokes. Stokes' run gets him into the twenties after 74 deliveries.

  6. Eng 183-5published at 74 overs

    Stokes 19, Moeen 1

Moeen Ali hasn't got a Test score of over 50 since August. He's another one of the England batsmen on a pair and is now on strike to Wagner.

The left-armer bowls Moeen a very full delivery first up, just like the one that dismissed him in the first innings, but this time it is blocked with the middle of the bat.

Loose from Wagner on the final ball and Moeen gets off his pair.

Astle's now bowled three overs, so I've got six in the kitty, and there's a new ball due in six overs - so he'll have to come back for a second spell if he's to bowl 10 overs.

People will think I'm some sort of a gambling maniac. It's only because of Scott Styris's silly bets.

A chastened Jonathan Agnew has arrived in the box.

(Aggers made a friendly wager on day one that leg-spinner Todd Astle would bowl fewer than 10 overs in the entire Test - claiming it was "an incongruous selection").

  9. Eng 181-5published at 03:21 British Summer Time 26 March 2018

That's an awful way to get out in the situation. The ball was so short that Bairstow has managed to make horrible connection with his pull. Don't under estimate the catch too. Brilliant.

Moeen Ali is in the middle now in a terrible run of form with the bat.

Williamson again, leaping to his right. A lovely catch. The mistake of one over ago is forgotten, and Todd Astle has thrown himself around the ground in celebration.

I wonder if this will mean Astle stays on?

    Jonny, Jonny, Jonny.

Moments after getting away with miscuing a half-tracker, Jonny Bairstow has once again picked out the fielder after being served up a terrible delivery from Todd Astle.

Trent Boult dropped the opportunity a moment ago but this time Kane Williamson clings on to a brilliant diving catch, taking the ball above his head.

This England pair have settled in and show the discipline and patience needed. I think we'll see a little bit of 'Bodyline' type short bowling from Neil Wagner who is running in wide of the crease. Ben Stokes has resisted taking him on, but New Zealand will test his patience.

I'm on the field! I've waited four and a bit days for this moment but New Zealand 12th man Matt Henry is on as sub fielder. I must admit I had hopes of writing about my namesake's five wickets in this match, despite my English roots. I just can't wait for the day the words MJ Henry are on the Lord's honours board.

  14. NZ 179-4published at 71 overs

Bairstow adds insult to injury by driving down the ground for four. Boult will probably be man of the match either way in this match but could that be a moment that comes back to haunt New Zealand?

Trent Boult has misjudged it and spilled out deeper at mid-on. It's a mistake from the batsman Jonny Bairstow and a mistake from Boult. He's normally a good catcher. It is one you would expect club players to take. He should take it. You can't say they haven't had their chances.

Shocking all round. A horror show.

Todd Astle bowls a rank half-tracker. Jonny Bairstow's eyes light up but he gets a pull all wrong. He spoons the ball straight to Trent Boult at mid-on and it looks to be the simplest of chances but Boult spills the pink ball to the turf. He gestures as if he hasn't picked it up but that's another chance gone. Bairstow has been dropped twice now.

A new line of attack from Neil Wagner. He's coming round the wicket with his left-arm seam to Ben Stokes. It's an unconventional angle but one we saw work for him in the first innings with the wicket of Mark Stoneman.

Wagner's line isn't quite right and Stokes doesn't even think about playing. That doesn't stop Wagner having another word though. Stokes doesn't look too flustered.

    Stokes 17, Bairstow 21

Quite tall for a spinner, Astle bounds in wearing his green sunglasses and then bowls with a fast round-arm action.

His first over isn't great to be honest. It is one you'd expect from someone only bowling for the first time an hour-and-a-half into the first session on day five. There's not too much spin and a few deliveries are too short. Bairstow is able to force a back-foot drive through the covers for four. That's the first boundary for 13 overs.
