What on earth is Chris Woakes up to? Does he realise he is trying to save a Test match?
Trent Boult sends down an even wider one outside of off stump and Woakes is reaching for it with another wild swing of the willow. He edges it this time but it goes over the slip cordon for four.
Woakes finishes with a defensive block. That's more like it - show them the maker's name.

Martin McVeigh: Perhaps if Michael Gale (04:21) is equidistant to the east of Eden Park, we should meet there on Saturday for the SuperRugby and argue about the weather over a beer!
Michael Gale: Well Martin, it is my birthday on the Sunday so let's make a night of it! It won't be the first time a couple of Englishmen end up staggering around Eden Park this week

Chris Woakes initially looks like he has a better grasp of where his off stump is in this over so there is no repeat of the tentative poking which saw him edge Tim Southee through the slips in the New Zealand bowler's previous over. However, the Warwickshire all-rounder inexplicably wafts at a very wide ball on a length from Southee's penultimate delivery.
Put that shot back in the locker please Chris.

Trent Boult drops his fourth ball in shorter and Ben Stokes picks up the length quickly and pulls it square to the boundary. Unlike his previous boundary he gets this one right out of the sweet spot.

Raval is not quite in Monty Panesar's league for fielding, but he's not far off. That was dire.

Ben Stokes much more confident at the other end, and he pulls a short ball from Tim Southee to the boundary for four. It's not perfectly timed from Stokes and he benefits from a bit of average fielding from Jeet Raval who is unable to prevent it crossing the rope.

Woakes picks up four but it is very much a morale victory for the bowler.

Trent Boult is the danger man here. His third delivery angles across Chris Woakes who has "chewing gum feet" (as Geoffrey Boycott used to say) back in his crease and hangs his bat out to play at one just outside his off stump. Woakes edges it and the ball races past third slip. That's a let off for the Warwickshire all-rounder but he has four runs for it.

A maiden from Tim Southee. Ben Stokes has 26 off 92 balls and he is leaving plenty. He is forced to play at Southee's final delivery, though, which spits up off a length and the Durham man pulls his bottom hand off the bat.

Michael Gale: I'm two miles east of Eden Park and the sun is shining so depending on your outlook the clouds are half full or half empty.
Adam Holmes: It's gone very dark and stormy looking over the back of the South Stand here in Auckland . Not sure it will arrive before England are all out.

Trent Boult bowls the two remaining balls of his over without any alarm for England.
A few clouds hovering on the periphery of Eden Park. We may get a shower at some point. It may miss the ground altogether.
Right the players are back out and we are ready to resume play again in Auckland.
Ex-Australia bowler Jason Gillespie has joined the chorus of former players who have called for Steve Smith to resign, in an column on the front page of the Guardian's sport section.
The Daily Express label the actions by Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft as "shameful".
Let's briefly turn our attention to events to the ball-tampering scandal involving Australia for a moment. A lot of the UK newspapers have gone big on it, so here's a quick glimpse at the back pages.
Thanks for the update Martin, here's the forecast. I think we might be clutching at straws.

Martin McVeigh: I'm two miles west and the rain is coming, might be short but will be heavy.
Cheers Matthew. England facing an uphill struggle to save this Test match. Batting conditions actually don't look that difficult. But Trent Boult is a man in form, and I don't fancy England's chances under lights later in the game - if of course they get that far.
I'm off to devour some early morning snacks. Here's Timothy Abraham to take you through the 20-minute break and the next period of play. Laterz.
