Neil Wagner causing a few problems with his short stuff. Ben Stokes attempts to bash one over mid-wicket and gets a snick on it. The ball goes over the slip cordon and scurries away for four. Off the last ball of the over Kane Williamson brings in a short leg and Chris Woakes pulls it four.

England need to clam things down a bit here.

If you're just waking up, the first thing to say is England are still in with a chance of saving this match.

Why has Kane Williamson waited this long to bring Todd Astle into the attack? Already the leggie looks like making something happen. A superb start from as he pitches one on middle on a good length and spins away from the face of Chris Woakes' bat. The Warwickshire man rocks on the back foot and cuts it through point for four having tickeld a boundary off his legs.

  4. Not outpublished at 05:56 British Summer Time 26 March 2018

It looked like a poor decision and so it proved. The ball pitched on leg and Chris Woakes is correctly given not out.

Rob Hunt: Up before 05:00 to take my two swimming training and not quite with it yet. As Aggers refers to the bowler being Boult on TMS, I have visions of Usain in the green, gold & black of Jamaica and not Trent in his cricket whites!

Leg-spinner Todd Astle into the attack. Chris Woakes needs to keep his head here.

Neil Wagner looks more likely to make something happen than Colin de Grandhomme and he gets the crowd clapping as he runs in. Ben Stokes is unflappable against the short stuff and confidently keeps it down. Maiden over.

Colin de Grandhomme completes the ninth over his spell here. It's another nagging, albeit uneventful, one as Chris Woakes blocks out.

This is where England's long batting line-up helps enormously.

Todd Astle must have been warming up for about 20 minutes now but Neil Wagner is into the attack instead after that short burst from Trent Boult. He hurries into the crease but England are able to milk three runs from it. Difficult to see where the next New Zealand wicket is coming from at the moment.

The body language of New Zealand's players is starting to sag a little. Colin de Grandhomme raps Ben Stokes on the pad but it's too high and the appeals are muted. Another nagging over from De Grandhomme to Stokes with just one run from a front foot no ball.

England have nibbled away at the total and it's below a hundred. A nervy boundary from Chris Woakes as he mistimes one and it goes aerially through the covers. Trent Boult blows his cheeks out. That would have been a soft dismissal.

Luke Drase: Turned on the match only twice today. The first time was just in time for the Malan wicket, the second just as NZ reviewed Moeen for lbw. Needless to say I'll do everyone a favour and stay away for the rest of the Test.

I'd have the wrist-spinner on now if I were New Zealand, even if it costs me that bet. You need your pace bowlers fresh for when it gets dark.

Colin de Grandhomme sends down a wide slower bouncer which Ben Stokes plays with a tennis-style forehand shot. The ball is aerial but there is nobody at cover to take the catch.

Sensing things are a bit flat Trent Boult starts to run in with fire in his belly and peppers Chris Woakes with three shorts balls. The first goes over his head and Woakes is able to fend off the next two deliveries. Boult then teases him with a sharp one outside off stump but Woakes leaves it.

Stokes has played very well but De Grandhomme has troubled him a couple of times. Occasionally he has beaten the outside edge.
