    Stoneman c Latham b Southee 35 (Eng 94-5)

    I mean.

Mark Stoneman has been working so hard out there, and it's all for nothing. He's camped in the crease to meet a Tim Southee delivery and all he can do is guide it towards Tom Latham at second slip.

    Deja vu, anyone?

    Boult 11-3-29-2

That delivery from Boult was full, straight and it went past Malan's bat and into his back pad.

Malan didn't even consider a review. Bat under his arm, head down, quick exit. Ben Stokes is the new man at the crease.

That must have felt as plumb as it looked. It's almost like Malan didn't see it. He didn't move his feet and just wafted his bat at it like a number 11. It's like he wasn't ready!

    Malan lbw Boult 0 (94-4)

Gone! A first ball duck for Dawid Malan!

That's an excellent delivery from Trent Boult, and as hopelessly out as out can be. Malan got stuck on the crease, feet going nowhere, and Boult just cracked one into his pads. This has all gone a bit wonky for England.

In the Champion County match at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, MCC have beaten county champions Essex by an innings and 34 runs.

It's a great day for Somerset spinners - not only is Jack Leach making his Test debut, but his club-mate Dom Bess has taken 6-51 for MCC - following up his century at number nine yesterday!

Root was going for another drive down the ground, I think, and missed.

Looking at the replay, it did nip back in to Root, then a little deflection off the pad and the off stump got thwacked as a result. Anyway, Dawid Malan is the next man in.

Good bowling from Southee, coming in from slightly wider on the crease and it did nip back in.

    Root b Southee 37 (Eng 93-3)

    Bowled him!

There's a gap as big as you'd like between Joe Root's bat and pad, and Tim Southee hustles a ball straight through it. The stumps get splayed, bails flying off, and Root looks thoroughly irked as he stomps off.

It was missing the stumps, too, so a bad shout all round.

Joe Root responds in elegant fashion, shuffling his feet and punching the ball back down the ground for four.

It hit Root just outside the line anyway.

Southee looked very confident about that one...but New Zealand don't have a review.

The fifty partnership comes up, coutresy of a punch off the back foot by Joe Root. It's come up from 114 balls.

Southee then gets a delivery to clip Root's front pad, but that's missing by some way, no matter how vociferous the appeal.

We're going to have a change of bowler again. Tim Southee is into the attack.

Totally leftfield suggestion but how about Morgan? I'm a fan of Malan but Eoin at six wouldn't be a huge differential in ability. Morgan has proven to be a shrewd, thoughtful and inspirational skipper in the one day format.

Kane Williamson is chewing furiously on his nails as he ponders things, before Trent Boult gets his first delivery to nip past Mark Stoneman.

Boult dangles a tempting delivery outside Stoneman's off stump, but he's having none of it.

Bowlers used to hate coming to this ground.

    Root 31, Stoneman 34

The ball-tracker reckons that delivery from Trent Boult was hitting middle stump. Which must really improve his mood.

Mark Stoneman, meanwhile, is getting the Neil Wagner treatment. Some short stuff comes his way, with a short leg lurking nearby, before he hustles a single.
