    Drinks - Eng 34-1published at 15 overs

Here comes Tim Southee back into the attack and here comes the James Vince cover drive™. A good positive stroke and it brings him two.

And here is the James Vince straight drive™. A gorgeous punch down the ground for four.

    And that's drinks.

Colin de Grandhomme is a good bowler. He's very much like an English county bowler - I can imagine him bowling this length early in the county season and being unplayable.

  3. Eng 28-1published at 14 overs

A superb maiden from Colin de Grandhomme, shaping the ball back in to Mark Stoneman, who just about fends all six deliveries away, albeit with the help of some inside edges.

It's a good crowd in - not as many as there were for the one-day international, though there's a temporary stand on one of the grassy banks that wasn't here for the ODI.

Vic Marks adds: I think that's for the benefit of those who have come over from England - including many senior citizens, who prefer a seat.

  5. Eng 28-1published at 13 overs

Trent Boult continues into his seventh straight over and this will probably be his last for a bit now.

A last effort ball is clipped by Vince through mid-wicket for two.

Navneet Gautam: I just don't think England are a good Test cricket team anymore. They have a working explosive tactic for ODIs and T20s but unfortunately it cannot really be applied to the Test format.

Tony: We're gonna be out for under a hundred again, aren't we?

New Zealand are getting a bit carried away - because they've put England in, and then only taken one wicket, they might be thinking they should have taken three or four by now.

  8. Eng 25-1published at 12 overs

De Grandhomme continues to target the off stump and pads and Vince repels the last two balls.

He's survived two reviews so far.

That was a good challenge by Vince.

  10. Eng 25-1published at 11.4 overs

And yes indeed, that ball was sliding completely past the leg stump so Vince is reprieved again.

So Vince is not out caught and they'll look at the lbw shout now.

Looks to be sliding down leg though...

Oh, no, he's not hit it. It's nowhere near him. There has been a double noise - the bottom of his bat has hit the ground. I don't think this is going to be out.

  13. Postpublished at 23:49 British Summer Time 29 March 2018

Looks to be gap between bat and pad...

The initial appeal was for lbw but first slip dived forward to catch it - I thought he had inside edged it onto his pads. I'm pretty sure he's hit it. He was looking at his bat as he walked towards Stoneman.

It's a very nagging line indeed and New Zealand look to have got James Vince.

It's into his pads and the first appeal is for lbw, but the ball also loops away and is caught by a diving first slip.

Marais Erasmus raises the finger and after a lengthy deliberation Vince sends it upstairs...

First bowling change for New Zealand as Colin de Grandhomme comes in for Tim Southee.

It won't be quick but it will be on a nagging line.

This has been a very dangerous and very demanding spell from Boult.

  18. Eng 25-1published at 11 overs

    Stoneman 12, Vince 10

Vince deflects it through gully for one, with this pair both into double figures and digging in well enough for now.

Stoneman then slices through backward point for a couple.

Yeesh. Boult gets Stoneman leaving a straight one to finish but there was enough bounce to ensure he wasn't snared lbw.

We saw this during the Ashes - it's as if Cook has developed a bit of a blind spot for very full balls. They don't seem to swing much, and Cook seems to miss them all ends up.

  20. Eng 22-1published at 10 overs

Southee targets the pads but Stoneman times his clip into leg nicely to pick up one.
