Steve Kilner: What a knock this is from Mark Wood. I reckon we've found our new number three.
Shane O'Neill: Mark Wood putting the rest of the batting line-up to shame.

Bairstow responds with a sharp two before pulling a short one away for four with terrific timing.
A single brings Wood back on strike...chance!
Wood stands and delivers and smacks the ball straight back down the ground, with Wagner unable to cling on with his left hand. That would've been an amazing catch, Wood absolutely clattered it.
Yeesh. Wagner mixes it up with a yorker that just slides past Bairstow's off stump.
Or did it actually tickle the stump and not take off the bail? That's what Wagner asks Bairstow. Not clear from the replays. Mighty close either way though.

I like the way Mark Wood always plays cricket with a smile on his face.
Bairstow 62, Wood 48
Shot! Sodhi throws it up outside off but Wood this time picks the googly and launches it away over mid-wicket for four.
Four more! This is stunning stuff from Wood, darting back into his crease to crash a short-arm pull shot to the fence.
The Durham man moves on to 48. He's catching Bairstow!

Wood's given himself room and played it like VVS Laxman - a fierce square drive for four!
Mark Wood, master of spin.
It's not even that wide from Ish Sodhi but Wood picks up the line and length quickly to scythe a backward cut to the fence for four.
This is excellent viewing.
Ish Sodhi is coming back into the attack. Can spin break this partnership?

Corey Bell: Only thing that can save this whole winter tour is a Wood 100. And the audacity to drop Craig Overton after his first Test heroics.

Jonny Bairstow has batted supremely well, although Mark Wood's innings is the sort that will really annoy the fielding side.
Bairstow 62, Wood 36
Bairstow and Wood rotate the strike adeptly with three singles in a row.
Wood then slices it past backward point for four to bring up his highest Test score, surpassing his previous mark of 32.
Another pull out to square leg brings one and takes Wood to 36.

I think it would be worth considering Bairstow as a specialist batsman at number three. Ability-wise, he is one of our best, and he has shown in ODIs that he is capable of facing a new (albeit white) ball.
When the top order routinely throw away their wickets, it seems a waste that one of our few consistent performers is, more often than not, left to bat with the tail. Obviously, that would mean bringing in a specialist keeper at number seven, but I can't see why replacing Vince (first-class average 38) with Foakes (f-c avg 41) would be much of an issue.

Superb, Mark Wood. It was only about armpit-height, he only took his eye off the ball at the last minute but it hit the middle of the bat and flew for six.
And the next ball is a no-ball for having three men behind square on the leg side - Tim Southee forgot there was already a leg slip and a fine leg.

Easily the quickest of the three 50 partnerships we've had in this innings - it came from 67 balls.
During all that kerfuffle, a farcical no ball for having too many men behind square brought up the 50 partnership between Bairstow and Wood.
Invaluable for England.
Wood tries to thwack another hook shot but miscues the stroke up over point.
Henry Nicholls turns and sprints but can't quite get there as the ball just evades his dive.
Harsh to call it a drop, would've been a stunner.
Mark Wood might be my new favourite Test batsman.
Neil Wagner digs one in short and Wood takes on the pull, smacking a flat six behind square.
Right, Bairstow is good to go. Wanger to send down all likelihood some more short stuff after drinks.
It's time to let Ian Bell's England career go.
