  1. Eng 174-7published at 65 overs

Trent Boult will continue into his 20th over for now - he drops short, Jonny Bairstow pulls and takes the single on offer, showing he trusts Mark Wood.

And why not? What a shot - Boult serves up a half volley and Wood drives it square to the fence.

He's hogging the strike too! Wood dabs it through gully for one to finish the over.

Teacher on first day of Easter holiday, well pleased that I stayed up late for this latest collapse. Or not. At all.

I don't expect it'll be long before Wagner is called upon to ruffle up the tail.

  4. Eng 168-7published at 64 overs

Very solid defence from Mark Wood as he plays out a maiden, leaving well.

  6. Eng 168-7published at 63 overs

Shot! Bairstow might look to play a few more of these attacking strokes now. It's short and the keeper swivels it away through backward square leg for four.

He can't pick up a single off the last though and Mark Wood will face Tim Southee next up.

It's a club cricket dismissal - one that's been given to Tim Southee. Broad just followed through too quickly on what could have been a slower delivery.

    Well that's that then.

A really soft dismissal as Stuart Broad completely miscues a drive and lofts it straight to Ish Sodhi at mid-off.

Broad looked every inch the number 10 on his return to number eight, flapping at it away from his body, with no timing or control.

  10. Eng 164-6published at 61.5 overs

Bairstow opts to take a quick single off the second ball and next up Broad edges Southee through vacant slip for four.

The camera duly pans to Kane Williamson. Worth getting another slip in there, skip?

Breaks have caused England concern - an early wicket lost after the start, three wickets straight after lunch and now one straight after tea.

  12. Eng 159-6published at 61 overs

Bairstow picks up a couple and finds the fence with a sweetly-struck drive that De Grandhomme perhaps should have stopped in the covers.

The keeper knocks it into leg and scampers a single off the fifth ball of the over, giving Broad just one more to face.

It's a yorker down leg that Broad plays at but misses.

  13. Eng 152-6published at 60.1 overs

So here is Stuart Broad, facing his first delivery from Trent Boult...and he pushes off the back foot for a single.

New Zealand might just feel they've opened one end up here, and might have a way through that lower order. There's a lot on Bairstow's shoulders now. I hope he doesn't think he's got to smash it.

  16. Eng 151-6published at 60 overs

Stuart Broad is the new man in but as that was the last ball of the over, Jonny Bairstow is facing Tim Southee.

How does England's wicketkeeper approach his innings after losing Stokes? For now, he calmly plays out a maiden.

Not a ball you'd expect to collect a Test wicket from. It's not swung, it would have been a decent ball to a right-hander but Stokes looked to help it on its way. When you do that, you turn the face of the bat and it's very easy just to flick the bat and get a fine edge. A tame end to an innings of determination and purpose.

    Bad balls get wickets.

Trent Boult slides a short delivery down leg, Ben Stokes chases it and gets a fine edge through to BJ Watling in behind.

It's a sickener of a dismissal for Stokes, who had looked very assured at the crease.

England are in real trouble now. Jonny Bairstow will have to bat with a very long tail.

Kevin Bridges: Batting line-up for Pakistan should be Cook, Hameed, Root, Stokes, Malan, Bairstow, Buttler, Crane, Wood, Broad, Anderson.

Tom Scarborough: Lots of peeps saying that there is no replacement for Alastair Cook or anyone else in the line-up. Codswallop. There are some fine batsman in England right now. Liam Livingstone, Sam Hain, Sam Northeast, Alex Lees et al... and Haseeb Hameed is the future at the top.
