Leach is doing a very good job for his skipper, blocking up one end and bowling a lot of dot balls.

  2. NZ 85-5published at 33 overs

Another tight over from Leach before he drops short and Watling drives out through cover for three.

Of course you think it's fair, David. The press conference was a waste of time, he could have given out a printed statement.

Bryan Waddle adds: People will have already made up their own minds.

  4. Warner 'will answer questions at proper time'published at 02:51 British Summer Time 31 March 2018

David Warner has been tweeting,, external since his earlier news conference:

"I know there are unanswered questions and lots of them. I completely understand. In time i will do my best to answer them all. But there is a formal CA [Cricket Australia] process to follow.

"I am taking advice to make sure I properly comply with that process and answer all questions in the proper place and at the proper time.

"I should have mentioned that in my press conference I’m sorry for not making it clearer. With so much at stake for my family and cricket I have to follow this process properly. I think that’s fair."

If you missed David Warner's odd press conference earlier, the short version is that he said sorry a lot for his part in the ball-tampering scandal but didn't answer any questions about whether he came up with the plan and who else was involved.

He's addressed his lack of answers on Twitter...

  6. NZ 81-5published at 32 overs

Ooh! Stuart Broad finds the edge of BJ Watling's bat and the ball flies low towards the slips.

James Vince at third slip dives sharply to his left to try and take a stunner but can't quite get there. It would not have reached Dawid Malan at second slip so good work from Vince to try and get there but but Watling survives.

Will the drinks interval do for this pair?

England are hoping so - here comes Stuart Broad, who has taken 3-18 today...

    NZ 80-5published at 31 overs

Very tidy from Leach, who is offering decent control. The Somerset man looks assured - no sharp turn to play with but he's testing the Kiwi batsmen with drift and a nagging line.

    And that'll be drinks.

How many dogs do you have now?

The eldest, Hoggard, is about 150 in dog years. He was at Trent Bridge for the Ashes in 2005, when I introduced him to Matthew Hoggard, who's a big dog fan. We've also got Bracken, Tino and now Bumble (son of Tino) - all named after cricketers.

  13. NZ 75-5published at 29 overs

Decent flight and drift but no major turn from Leach as New Zealand pick up three off the over.

James in St Albans: Evidence so far suggests that Wood is in fact a specialist batsman that we crave.

Rob, Coventry: Surprised that no one has started the debate as to whether we should enforce the follow-on!

  17. NZ 72-5published at 28 overs

Bang! De Grandhomme stands tall and slaps a drive through the covers for four. Lovely shot.

Another four but much less convincing as a thick outside edge runs through vacant third slip to the fence.

Oof, Anderson responds with a jaffer that zips past the outside edge. Bit of a stare.

    Jeremy Coney
Ex-New Zealand captain on Test Match Special

New Zealand could be dismissed this session. After Colin de Grandhomme, it's all the bowlers. There's not really something that could give New Zealand fans any conviction to say "we're going to do a Mark Wood, here".

  20. NZ 64-5published at 27 overs

Wood lines up Watling but the Kiwi keeper leaves a few short balls well alone.

A punch through point brings two.
