  2. NZ 219-6published at 05:11 British Summer Time 3 April 2018

    29 overs left

Broad and Stokes both signalled that they didn't hear a noise before that was reviewed.

insult to injury - De Grandhomme hits back-to-back boundaries, the first an excellent pull shot, the second a slightly ropey top edge over the keeper.

And that's the 50 partnership between De Grandhomme and Sodhi. Superb digging in.

  3. NZ 210-6published at 05:08 British Summer Time 3 April 2018

No heat mark on the bat. No sound spike. Not out. And not a good review. England lose their last one.

This was all on the basis of the two short leg fielders Stoneman and Stokes, who went up straight away. Bairstow and Broad weren't convinced.

If it's hit anything, it'll be gloves.

  6. England reviewpublished at 91.2 overs

Broad goes round the wicket to Sodhi, who chases one down leg.

Bairstow goes up in appeal but given not out.

Broad doesn't seem too keen but Root is going to send it upstairs.

How costly is that drop from Stoneman at short cover looking, when De Grandhomme first came in?

  8. NZ 210-6published at 05:05 British Summer Time 3 April 2018

    30 overs left

It's a tidy return over by Leach, if slightly too full, as De Grandhomme comes forward and defends all six balls for a maiden.

There are 30 overs left in the day. Four wickets needed from 180 deliveries.

  9. 'Too many short balls'published at 05:03 British Summer Time 3 April 2018

    Graeme Swann
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

The Kiwis have long ago given up the chase for victory, so it's all about time spent at the crease. There have been too many short balls to the tail-enders - but I've said that all game, too many short balls full stop. If you're not going to hit the stumps with the new ball, the only way you can get out is caught.

Here is Jack Leach, replacing James Anderson.

Two wickets today for the debutant - can he grab another?

Roger Gawtrey: Ex-pat finalising bank presentations in Wellington, NZ. Absolutely not enjoying this frustrating stand by NZ.

Toby: Watching from Canada and could really do with a wrap up job from England as I've got to be up for work at 5am.

  12. NZ 210-6published at 90 overs

    31 overs left

Broad squares Sodhi up but the Kiwi does enough to fend it down into off.

Sodhi flicks the next ball fine for four as Broad targets the pads.

A bouncer follows and Sodhi easily ducks under it.

  15. NZ 206-6published at 04:56 British Summer Time 3 April 2018

    32 overs left

De Grandhomme works it off his toes to wide fine leg for a couple. Still no real swing for Anderson with this new ball.

How soon will England turn to spin?

Broad's moving quite gingerly, I think he's going to pop off for an over.

They'll be enjoying this tussle all around New Zealand.

De Grandhomme is still happy to take on the short ball, clattering a pull stroke to the fence to bring the 200 up for New Zealand.

I wonder if England might be able to summon two or three overs out of Ben Stokes.

New Zealand can see the finishing line, even if it's very far in the distance. These two are doing a tremendous job for their side. You have the feeling it'll be an England victory, or nine down with bad light.
