We've heard that Southee is padded up in the tunnel area.

Sodhi taps into cover for one to bring Wagner on strike for the first time against Leach.

He slices the last ball towards third man to pick up one and keep the strike.

There are 25 overs left in day five at Hagley Oval.

It's doubtful we'll get all of those in before it gets dark.

But the good news is it's a fair deal sunnier in Christchurch than it was at this time yesterday.

    Jack Leach will continue...

Neil Wagner bowls a lot of short balls and can expect his fair share here. The tailender ducks under a bumper to start, with Mark Wood giving him a stare afterwards.

Ooft! That's a well-directed bouncer from Wood and it clatters Wagner on the arm. The physio starts to run on, despite Wagner not calling for him, and Marais Erasmus sends him back off.

Wagner survives the over - a maiden for Wood.

Mark Saxby, the England massage therapist and possibly the nicest man involved in cricket anywhere, is now among the staff throwing the ball back from the boundary.

Aggers adds: They may be working in shifts.

Ali Mason: "Mind the plate Colin, it's very hot"

"Yeh, but it can't be that hot..."

"No seriously Colin, if you touch it you'll burn yourself"

    "I'll be fine..."

Shot! Sodhi takes on the sweep and batters it away for four. Ouch! That actually hit Cook at short leg in the arm on the way to the fence. The former skipper shrugs it off.

Leach sends down two dot balls to finish, ensuring Wagner will be on strike for the start of the next over.

What a ball! Leach gets it to fizz from leg stump past the outside edge and the off stump.

    No nick on it though.

Fresh from taking that catch, Jack Leach is going to continue his spell...

We think England need three wickets, but they may only need two - I'm not sure if anyone has actually seen Tim Southee today, he was feeling ill yesterday.

Wagner digs out a Wood yorker to begin before defending the rest of the over.

There have been some regrettable shots, but De Grandhomme is going to feel absolutely lousy after that. He fell for the sucker punch.

England need to go into orthodox bowling mode and knock Wagner over.

Still no Tim Southee, who is suffering with a virus.

    Out comes Neil Wagner.

Colin de Grandhomme smashed his bat into the ground after getting out. He might be smashing a few other things in the dressing room.

I've said it all along, why pitch up when you can bowl short? They've done it for 45 overs and got two people out, so that will justify it. Brainless batting.

    De Grandhomme c Leach b Wood 45 (NZ 219-7)

Colin de Grandhomme, what on earth have you done?

And just as I sighed at more short-pitched bowling, sure enough it gets a wicket.

Mark Wood bangs it down from round the wicket, De Grandhomme takes on the pull and belts it straight to Jack Leach at fine leg.

After an innings of brilliant grind and having played most pull shots down, De Grandhomme falls in fairly ridiculous fashion.

Well it's neither Malan nor Stokes, Aggers.

    Here is Mark Wood.

And probably some more short stuff. Sigh.

I'd bring Malan on for a couple of overs, just to do something completely different. Or they might bring Stokes on to make something happen.

I just don't get the bouncers. They've both shown they're not troubled by the short ball.

More tidy work from Leach, who has four fielders around the bat. But Sodhi is solid in defence and plays out a maiden.
