Joe Root's face, incidentally, when he edged that ball behind was a picture. He knew it was a bad decision roughly 0.01 seconds after he'd done it.

That was a poor shot. He was in no kind of rhythm of balance. When you're not balanced at the crease you're not trusting yourself and playing in a controlled, relaxed state. That was not a great four, fours are never all that great but that was probably the worst four we've ever seen from Joe Root.

That's a really awful bit of cricket from Root. So unneccessary.

Anyway, Dawid Malan's the next man in.

Abbas has been excellent this morning - he's resting up with figures of 6-4-8-1.

The Lord's stewards seem quite hot on roaming journalists looking for a seat in the stands. Twice I've been moved on. "You can't sit here. Sit with the staff." It's probably fair enough. The last thing a paying punter wants is me squatting in their seat.

Joe Root and Alastair Cook satisfy themselves with plonking a few singles here and there, before Cook gets forward and defends.

Abbas is a skilful bowler, he has the ability to take the ball away from the left-hander and bring it back in. I don't think it will do a great deal for too long, we've seen Cook play some lovely shots, he looks in good form. Stoneman will be back in the pavilion knowing it's another opportunity missed. You feel he will have to get a decent score.

Another change for Pakistan, with Faheem Ashraf brought into the attack.

The all-rounder made his debut against Ireland - he made 15 with the bat and finished with 0-10 with the ball.

Mohammad Abbas has decided to come around the wicket to Alastair Cook for a bit.

He doesn't quite nail it first up, sending down a wide delivery that Sarfraz has to wander some way across to collect, before Cook dabs down to third man for four. Soft hands all the way.

There's a gentleman in the crowd who has a hat on and a wooden spoon attached to the hat. This is already my favouite thing about this Test.
