It's not really happened for Mohammad Abbas and he's duly replaced by Hasan Ali.
Oh my! That's an absolute peach first up, zipping just past the outside edge of Keaton Jennings' bat and not far over the stumps.

We're seeing nothing like the movement that Stuart Broad found. Broad bowled much fuller today than he did at Lord's.
Does anyone do anything as well as Alastair Cook clips straight balls off his pads?
He flicks this one through mid-wicket to the fence with superb timing.
Better from Amir in response but Cook is happy to leave well alone outside his off stump.
Cook 11, Jennings 17
Shot! Jennings steps out to a full one and cracks it through the covers for four. He's negated Abbas' swing well so far and that's a lovely, positive drive.

What's interesting is where Keaton Jennings is standing. He's not just an inch or two outside his crease, but six or eight inches against Mohammad Abbas, who is no different, pace wise, to South Africa's Vernon Philander. He's looking positive in defence.

Keaton Jennings is back in his crease to face Mohammad Amir, who is getting shape away but hasn't really got it to swing back in to the left-hander yet.
Jennings edges it short of third slip who can't quite gather and England pick up one more.
If there was no such thing as mockers I might type that this has looked about as assured an opening stand as England have managed for a while. But mockers does exist, should I definitely didn't just type that.

I never liked batting out of my crease - I preferred to go the other way. The pitch begins to shrink when you get closer to the bowler. It always threw me out of sync.
Abbas sends down an uneventful maiden to Cook.
No unorthodox guard or batting position for the former skipper, who calmly defends or leaves all six.
Alastair Cook opens the face and guides it nicely wide of the slips for four.
He then waits as someone is moving behind the sight screen.
And that someone is Ben Stokes, who is confused as to where he can and cannot stand on the balcony.
He drops down to hide below the wall for one delivery but Cook wants him gone and the injured all-rounder duly heads back indoors laughing. What a menace.

This session is so important for England because they may find it clouds over tomorrow when they are batting.

Dan Heath: Don’t want to tempt fate, but Jennings has looked very good! Relaxed, proactive and watching the ball.
Five tight deliveries from Abbas but Jennings stays patient and slices the last confidently through point for four more. A lovely shot off the front foot.
That's definitely worth missing an accountancy exam for. He was meant to sit one yesterday but had a better offer.

The conditions for batting have improved. We've got a bit of sunshine now.
Smart cricket from this opening pair as Alastair Cook takes two quick singles and Keaton Jennings guides through point for three.
More frustration for Mohammad Amir as Jennings edges another along the ground through the slips for four. A moral victory for the bowler so the cliche goes. Amir looks far from victorious though.
Nice hustle from Jennings as he taps a quick single to finish. Good, positive stuff so far.
This is odd. Abbas sends down two deliveries that Jennings leaves before both umpires call the England opener over to have a word.
Bruce Oxenford holds out his hands as if recounting the size of a fish he once caught.
Is he being warned for standing on the protected area of the pitch? I don't think he was quite that far down.
Brief chat over and Jennings takes a new guard but is still batting out of his crease.
Now, Keaton Jennings struggled against South Africa's Vernon Philander last summer and Mohammad Abbas is a pretty similar bowler.
Jennings looks to be batting out of his crease to try and negate the nibble.

As an opening batsman in these conditions, you play it late, watch the ball under your eyes and accept that you may edge a few behind square.

Oh that's a peach from Amir, shaping in then nipping away and just missing bat and off stump.
Cook survives and gets off the mark, edging along the ground through the slip cordon for four. Not convincing from the former skipper but he played it late with soft hands to ensure it went straight down.

It will do a bit, no question, so England just have to survive for the next 10 or 15 overs. When you see a score of 174, it does give you a boost as a batting unit.
Ooh, the second seams away a bit and Cook edges it, but the ball dies and bounces well in front of slip.
