That's a stunner of a ball from Mohammad Abbas, the ball jagging away from the bat at the last second, and Sam Curran just about avoids getting a nick on it.

Wisely, Curran works a single, and Jos Buttler lets the final ball of the over nip past the bat.

That was a little bit loose. I thought Curran had tightened up for the night. I suspect Buttler might tell him to now.

  3. Eng 293-7published at 94.2 overs

A bit of chin music for Sam Curran, who wisely whips his head out of the way of the ball.

That inside edge is coming in handy for Curran - that's four! It's a bit of a wild swing ta the ball, but there's enough meat on it to evade Sarfraz and go tumbling down to third man.

John Wallace-Howell: This is England's problem. We get in good positions but we're not ruthless enough. Broad can say whatever he likes but our batsmen haven't done enough. Too many starts not converted.

  5. Eng 289-7published at 94 overs

Hasan Ali swings the ball past the outside edge of Sam Curran's bat, before another inside edge brings the Surrey youngster a single.

Hasan Ali wants the ball changed.

The umpire puts is through his little measuring device, and says it's fine.

    As you were.

It should be a good day tomorrow. England could and should have Pakistan in serious trouble by the close of day three.

Runs for Sam Curran! The left-hander is off the mark as he gets a thick inside edge on an inswinger from new bowler Hasan Ali.

Mohammad Abbas is an awkward customer to face in the late evening.

The first ball Sam Curran faces in Test cricket is aimed towards his pads, and the youngster gets his bat down and defends. He sees off a Mohammad Abbas maiden.

Abbas is going to bowl full and between 75 to 80mph. His general mode of dismissal is lbw or feathers behind. You almost try to encourage him to bowl short by coming out of the crease. Then if it hits you normal height around the knee roll, you won't be out lbw as it'll be going over.

Sam Curran is out for his first bat in Test cricket, although he's at the non striker's end.

That means he gets to watch a fine delivery from Mohammad Amir swing past the bat of Jos Buttler.

Oh that's a beauty. Angled in and seaming away. It's actually a bit of a worrying sign for Pakistan that this new ball has moved around.

Wow. Chris Woakes has done well to get a nick on that.

That's a cracking ball from Mohammad Abbas, getting the ball to move in towards Woakes, before zipping away at the last second. Woakes can only thrust his hands forward and get an outside edge, before the ball settles into Sarfraz's grateful gloves.

  20. Eng 285-6published at 88.1 overs

A bouncer from Mohammad Abbas, and Jos Buttler tickles it around the corner for a very leisurely single.
