The highest total without a batsman making a fifty or extras being 50 or more is 313 by South Africa at the Wanderers against England in 2016. And all eleven South Africa batsmen got double figures.

That was far more exciting than Stuart Broad's 6-17 in the second innings, for me.

    Lead by 110

Four! Mohammad Amir swings one in towards Chris Woakes, and a turn of the wrists helps him push the ball down to the fine leg boundary.

Woakes lets the rest of the over side harmlessly by.

When you're trailing by 100, you look for someone to step up and get a century to eradicate the lead and then get the other 10 to contribute.

But when the lead gets to 150-200, psychologically it's hard, you need two or three big scores then.

    Woakes 13, Buttler 31

A half-hearted appeal for lbw as Chris Woakes cames wandering down the wicket, and Mohammad Abbas spears one into his pads.

Not out, and that'll be a maiden.

Pakistan's fielding has not been all that today. There was a dropped catch, the ball bursting through hands and some overthrows.

    Lead by 105

Ooft. A beauty from Mohammad Amir, getting the ball to swing and wobble past the bat of Chris Woakes.

A fumble in the field gets Woakes off strike, and Amir glares pointedly at the offender as Butter lets the final ball of the over go through to the keeper.

Some news away from Headingley to bring you...

It looks like England will host Ireland in a four-day Test at Lord's next summer as preparation for the Ashes series. The full story on that is here.

  9. Eng 278-6published at 85 overs

Mohammad Abbas strikes Jos Buttler on the knee, before he finds some away swing to take the ball past Buttler's outside edge.

The England bowlers in the dressing room might have sat up in interest after seeing that. A maiden.

The highest total in Test cricket without any batsman reaching fifty is 315 by England against West Indies at Port of Spain in 1986.

David Gower top scored with 47, although there is a footnote to this one as West Indies conceded 59 extras in the innings.

  11. Eng 278-6published at 84 overs

    Lead by 104

A terrible wide delivery from Faheem Ashraf goes flying in the direction of first slip.

This time the bowler drifts into Jos Buttler's pads, and a flick of the wrists adds another three to the total. Chris Woakes then has an extravagant flash outside off stump to end the over.

Hmm. Faheem Ashraf is going to continue.

So no Mohammad Amir, although he's rather pointedly loosening up near his captain.

Things looked good for Jonny Bairstow...

    Right up until this.

  14. Eng 274-6published at 83 overs

    Woakes 11, Buttler 28

Immaculate defence from Chris Woakes, before he guides Mohammad Abbas through third man for a boundary.

A slightly edgier stroke, the ball dropping just in front of the slip cordon, brings up the hundred run lead for England.

  15. Eng 269-6published at 82.1 overs

    New ball? What new ball?

That'll be four for Chris Woakes, with an uppish sort of drive sending the ball whizzing through mid-on and away to the ropes.

With one delivery left in this over, Pakistan have taken the new ball.

Funky new ball tactics. Jos Buttler leaves it well alone.

  18. Eng 265-6published at 81.5 overs

Short from Faheem Ashraf, and it sits up nicely enough for Jos Buttler to pull it for one.

Mohammad Amir is swinging his arms around in the deep. New ball ahoy...

The slower the over rate, the better the cricket often, because stuff is happening.
