Lyon lbw Rashid 1 (Aus 193-9)

The ball hit the back of the net and the umpire's finger went up pretty much simultaneously. The review confirms what we already knew. Nathan Lyon was trying to pull and was right back on his stumps. He was hitting middle.

I think it's hitting middle and leg.

  3. Australia reviewpublished at 31.3 overs

    Aus 193-8

Surely this is out? Nathan Lyon trying to pull Adil Rashid?

Meanwhile, England have scored. A John Stones header. 1-0...

This was a real opportunity for Australia to get 320 or 350 because this pitch is a beauty.

  5. Aus 192-8published at 31 overs

In amongst the dross, D'Arcy Shoryt has batted nicely. Like those Aussies that have gone before him, he's chewing gum with authority. The left-hander handsomely drives Sam Curaan through the covers for four. At the other end, Nathan Lyon is much less secure. He's batting like a dotted line.

It was hitting the sixth stump.

  7. Not outpublished at 29.5 overs

    Aus 187-8

Blimey, that is a really bad review. Missing by miles. In fact, they may have needed a review to see it was hitting a second set.

  8. England reviewpublished at 29.5 overs

    Aus 187-8

    No bat...

  9. England reviewpublished at 29.5 overs

    Aus 187-8

Nathan Lyon sweeping at Adil Rashid. I reckon this has hit him outside the line, but England want a look.

If you don't want to know the football score, look away now. I'll be keeping you updated. A lot of spectators inside Old Trafford are at the back of the stand in the 'fan village'. What does D'Arcy Short do here? Stick or twist? Sam Curran tidy once more. Here are the two wickets he's taken...

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 28 overs

    K Richardson run out (Moeen/Buttler) 14 (Aus 181-8)

This is like watching England v Australia matches of the late 1990s/early 2000s, with the roles reversed. Kane Richardson tickled the ball to short fine leg and set off. When he decided he had to get back, the dive wasn't enough to beat Moeen Ali's throw, with the bat over the line, but in the air.

Kane Richardson sent back. He's diving to make his ground...

It's an excellent comeback from Sam Curran. That shows a bit of character. Both Curran brothers look like they have something about them.

  16. Aus 172-7published at 27 overs

Do let me know of the things you have missed in the name of cricket. I play Saturday cricket, so have missed any number of FA Cup finals and England World Cup matches. Australia really are doing their best to get this done. Single to point, D'Arcy Short would have been miles out had Jason Roy's throw hit.

The TMS debate about football and cricket clashes has overlooked Eng v Aus ODI in 2010 at Old Trafford which was played on the same day as Eng v Ger in World Cup. By that time screens behind the stand had been banned due to health and safety, naturally.

And the Australia innings may not last much longer. A Kane Richardson swipe at Adil Rashid goes straight up, but a diving Liam Plunkett can't hold on in his left hand. If it could be wrapped up in the next 15 minutes or so, I think we'd all appreciate that...

  19. Aus 163-7published at 25 overs

Wide from Sam Curran, as he greets new man Kane Richardson to the crease with a bouncer.

A terrific over from Curran on debut. I'm off for a bit. It'll be Stephan Shemilt to talk you through the rest of Australia's innings.

That is a scrambled mind. It has done a little bit. He knows it will come back into the stumps. You know as a batsman, when you leave one that you're going to hear the rattle.
