The sweep again from Morgan and there is a roar of excitement as it heads towards Pandya at deep backward square leg, but it lands just short of the exuberant seamer, with his mirrored shades, gold chain and gleaming earrings.

You're not in the game against this India batting line-up if you don't get in excess of 300. You can't get away with squeaking to 270.

  3. Eng 181-2published at 29 overs

    Kuldeep 2-28 from 5

The mercurial Kuldeep struck with his second ball again today, just as he did at Nottingham, but has sent down a couple of full tosses and the England batsmen comfortably work him away for singles.

Joe has steadied the ship well - England didn't need another 6-25 for Kuldeep. He's got England back into the game.

    Eng 178-2

The man of the moment is back, Kuldeep from the Nursery End, but Root clips him calmly into the leg-side for his 29th ODI fifty, which has come from 56 balls.

Joe Root is playing the perfect innings for the team. He should bat for the 50 overs, in which time he'll score 120, and that will allow Jos Buttler to come in next and play his shots. England can get a big score by playing the old-fashioned way and playing around one batsman.

  7. 6 runs

    Eng 176-2published at 28 overs

    Root 49, Morgan 45

That's woken up a few enjoying a pre-lunch cocktail in the pavilion, Morgan displaying magnificent footwork and almost halfway down the wicket to launch Chahal down the ground and into the benches.

Joe Root has scored off his last 14 deliveries now, but that four broke a run of 10 consecutive singles.

  9. Eng 168-2published at 27 overs

    Run-rate 6.22

Morgan executes the sweep perfectly and it bounces only once before racing over the ropes, the 16th four of the innings to add to the two maximums hit by the openers. Root swiftly adds another with a stylish punch off the back foot, Raina's two overs going for 18.

    Bookie

I'm happy to be corrected on this one, but I'm fairly certain I've not seen a bookies inside Lord's before.

  11. Eng 156-2published at 26 overs

    Root 42, Morgan 32

Thanks Amy. Now, Kuldeep-watch, he's got six left to bowl. For the moment though it's the Paul Simon to his Art Garfunkel, Chahal, who comes in from the Pavilion End in glorious summer sunshine and Morgan keeps the momentum with a sweep that brings him two.

England have got a very nice platform set.

  13. Eng 152-2published at 25 overs

Joe Root goes back into his crease and drives a single through backward point. Tidy from Raina, with England working the singles where they can.

This seems an appropriate place to take my leave. Jamie Lillywhite will take you through the business end of the innings.

India are going to try and hustle a few cheap overs out of Suresh Raina.

You don't see as many blue India shirts as we did at the other matches in the T20s and at Nottingham. Maybe the India supporters are below us in the commentary box.

Just another three runs from the over. Everyone is busy congratulating the newly engaged couple in the stands.

  17. Eng 144-2published at 23.3 overs

Hello, Joe Root's been caught - but it's off a free hit!

Yuzvendra Chahal has bowled a no ball, and Root hits the resulting free hit straight down the throat of the man on the mid-wicket boundary. Smiles all round.

    We've had a proposal at Lord's!

She's said yes, I'm pleased to report. Chahal gives them a round of applause before he resumes bowling.

  20. Eng 140-2published at 23 overs

    Root 35, Morgan 24

Four! That's a cracking way to bring up the fifty partnership, Joe Root going up and over and guiding Hardik Pandya over the head of the fielder and working the ball down to third man. Pandya goes short and gets promptly pulled behind square for a single.
