Risky from Jason Roy, throwing his arms at Umesh Yadav and getting a thick outside edge that flies down to third man.

England will start as favourites for the World Cup but having seen this India side they are going to push them a long way. They have mystery and England have struggled with that since the days when I played.

England have got to find a way of playing Kuldeep Yadav. Sangakkara always said pick the stock delivery and then if something looks different, that is the one you have to be alert to as the wrong 'un.

  3. Eng 12-0published at 2 overs

Four! India have stuck a lot of fielders in the off side but Jonny Bairstow beats them all, cutting Siddarth Kaul through a diving Hardik Pandya at point and picking up his first boundary.

Ooft. That'll be four more for Bairstow as he steps forward and pushes a delightful drive back past Siddarth.

That's a more than respectable opening over from Umesh Yadav.

Can Siddarth Kaul and his trusty headband back it up from the Pavilion End?

I'm surprised that didn't carry because there was good pace and it was a good edge.

    Eng 4-0

Oh, Jason Roy's got lucky. There's a bit of movement from Umesh Yadav and Roy pokes forward at it, loosely playing away from his body. The ball takes the outside edge and drops just short of a diving MS Dhoni.

I remember playing at Edgbaston and 70% of the crowd were supporting India. Here it may be 50-50, it may even be 60-40 in favour of England, but I can guarantee India will be making 90% of the noise.

  8. Eng 4-0published at 0.1 overs

It'll be Umesh Yadav to open the bowling for India, and his first delivery is worked for four by Jason Roy!

It's a loosener from Umesh, drifting down the leg side, and Roy just has lean forward and flick it fine to the boundary.

Right, shall we have some cricket?

Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow bump fists as they make their way out to the middle. They need to win today if they want to keep this series alive.

We've just been watching highlights of the India v England one-dayer from 2002, where India won by two wickets with just four balls left, and Nasser did his famous celebration.

Harbhajan Singh, who played in the match and is an analyst for Sky during this series, said that he didn't have a clue what Nasser was doing with the 'three' gesture.

You go back to South Africa when England were 20-6 batting first, if it's going to do something here it's going to be in the next 45 minutes. But that's what happens when you come up against mystery. There is Kuldeep and you imagine England are thinking 'do we want to be facing him when there is rough?'. They couldn't face him when there was no rough. I think he played a massive part in the decision to bat first.

  13. England 'shut down' by Kuldeeppublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

England were undone once again by left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who took 6-25 at Trent Bridge.

His figures were the best by a spinner in a one-day international, and the best by any left-arm wrist spinner in an ODI.

"He shut us down and you have to give him credit. It's up to us and our players to keep an open mind," batting coach Graham Thorpe said.

"The one thing about him (Kuldeep) playing is that you start to formulate plans.

"The more you face the trajectory, the flight, the speed of the ball, they're the things you pick up on."

At St John's Wood, the nearest station to Lord's, they are replaced by an Indian airline, an Indian TV station and Virat Kohli selling mobile phone plans. The power of the Indian cricket team.

India captain Virat Kohli: "If I'd have spoken to Morgs, we wouldn't have needed a toss - we wanted to bowl first anyway. It looks like a good pitch so I don't see it changing throughout the game.

"We have chased down scores well in two of the T20s and the first ODI. We'll try and use the new ball well and then put the pressure on their middle order with our spinners."
