Joe Root speaking to Test Match Special: "We still had to exploit the conditions, it was the right decision to go with that team and with that make up.

"The way we handled the breaks with the weather, and performed in those conditions was really pleasing. The seam group were outstanding it’s not many times you’ll have a spinner as good as Adil (Rashid) not bowl a ball!

"It shows the importance of batting deep, and shows the quality of player we have in our side.

"I’m so chuffed to bits for Chris (Woakes), he fitted in beautifully, from the first ball he was right on the mark. It’s amazing what confidence that kind of spell can give you, and also to bat with Jonny in the manner that he did."

That wasn't a defeat, that was abject humiliation. Rashid never bowled or batted but keep him in the side. Delaying the declaration was incomprehensible but whatever.... This Indian side is so rubbish, and with a view to the future, give some of the regulars a rest and blood a few new players eg Burns, Porter?

  3. 'We deserved to lose'published at 18:09 British Summer Time 12 August 2018

India captain Virat Kohli at the post-match presentation: "I am not very proud of the way we played. Credit has to go to England. When a team plays like that they deserve to be on the winning side. We deserved to lose this game.

"It is what it is. We have to counter conditions when they come to you. Sometimes the rub of the green goes your way when it doesn't a quality side will make it count. We will not sit around and say we didn't have the conditions.

On his side's decision to select two spinners: "Looking at things now, the weather was unpredictable, we got the combination off before the game.

On his own injury: "I should be OK. There are five days to go. It is a lower back issue which has been coming and going due to the number of games. I am confident I will be fine in five days time."

Andy: Can't quite believe England have won so easily! Was hoping to listen to it tomorrow to get me through my return to work!

Jon Dunn: India could bat again and they’d still lose by an innings.

  6. 'We know we got the best of the conditions'published at 18:02 British Summer Time 12 August 2018

England bowler Stuart Broad after his four wickets, speaking to Sky Sports: "That win's right up there. The emotions after last week, which was such a close win, took a lot out of us so it's great to come to Lord's with such intensity and put on that sort of show.

"We're honest and we know we got the best of the conditions - but when we got those conditions we've got a lot of skill in the side.

"When you get the ball swinging it's quite easy to chase the game but our economy rates were good, we didn't give India too many freebies.

"There was always a ball in that pitch with the batsman's name on it.

"I was gutted when the rain arrived [before tea]. I was feeling really good and had really good rhythm. I'm just disappointed with the hat-trick ball - it was so bad. You have to bowl at the fifth stump when it's swinging like that and I just started it too straight."

Well bowled all the England bowlers, it was a masterclass of how to bowl in English conditions. They will be delighted with that going to Trent Bridge, where they usually bowl very well, to try to wrap up the series!

Spinners don’t like their hands being hit, and Ashwin won’t like that. You want to keep your hands nice and supple all over.
