Hardik Pandya clips Stuart Broad through midwicket for four to bring up the 50 partnership with Ravi Ashwin - that's a great effort in context of the chaos earlier, and the hammering their hands took a few overs ago.

That was a beauty - more off the pitch than swing. That beat the outside edge by quite a bit.

The Burnley Express is indeed back at the Nursery End, and Ravi Ashwin greets him with an aerial shot through vacant fourth slip for four. But the last ball is a beauty, Ashwin groping outside off stump as it zips past the edge.

Oooooh, that's nice! Pandya pushes Broad back between the non striker and the stumps for a gorgeous boundary. The bowler hits back with two consecutive rearing deliveries, but the batsman gets right on top of them. It's a decent spell for India - but Jimmy Anderson is limbering up...

A couple of boundaries in Curran's latest over - leg byes off Ashwin's hip, then an airy drive past point that drew a few gasps. The left-armer makes a rare trip around the wicket to tighten things up, but I wonder if Joe Root is considering a change from the Nursery End?

A couple of India’s reserve batsmen are having a net on the Nursery Ground. Evidence suggests they might need it.

Hardik Pandya responds to being hit painfully on the hand with a lovely stroke for four.

  9. Ind 88-6published at 37 overs

Just three slips for England while Broad steams in from the Pavilion End, with Pandya edging a boundary through where fourth would have been. Irked by that, Broad makes one leap off the pitch and to strike the batsman right at the top of his back leg.

That's got to hurt, and possibly distracted by the pain, Pandya swings wildly at the last ball of the over but misses by some distance.

Shaun McCann: Regarding the criticism and it's justification of Stuart Broad - the very fact that he DOES have these spells that blows away sides and has them so often should raise him above the criticism he's been getting.

John Pierce: Broad 400+ test wickets; patchy form for sure that.

    Broad 4-27

Broad angles one down the slope but Ashwin, even with his iffy hand, guides it through the infield and down the hill for a boundary - few signs of any ill effects there. Pandya gets onto strike, and then pushes Broad firmly past mid on for another four.

Ashwin is giving it a go, but at least he's off strike after running a quick single after being hit. Pandya responds by pushing Curran through midwicket for four with a lovely shot.

You could argue that from India's point of view this game is gone and they might not want to aggravate the injury.

Pandya is OK enough to resume - it looked like that delivery had drawn a bit of blood.

Sam Curran resumes from the Nursery End, and he matches Stuart Broad by rapping the batsman on the hand - it's Ravichandran Ashwin this time, and it's his spinning finger that's been hit.

Adam Sewell: I don't see why Broad critics should crawl under rocks. Excellent bowler, but his form is patchy & spells like today rescue him from a run of poor innings. He is no more devastating on current form than Woakes or others & deserves his place to be considered each game

Broad makes one rear up and hits Hardik Pandya on the right hand. He drops the bat, whips off the glove and the physio runs on to see to him. This just isn't India's day.

Talanister: India have been utter shambolic in the two tests so far. First test Kohli salvaged some pride. Second test had been disaster from day one. If it's not a flat pitch, Indian team folds quickly.
