The hover cover is now making its way off the field. The forecast may be awful but play is going to start on time unless there is rain in the next five minutes.

It's overcast but bright-ish and dry at the moment.

I have always been one saying don't just look at the forecast and assume it is right but I would now declare. It will swing. Try and get wickets before the rain comes.

England are absolutely stupid not to get the ball in hand, even if it’s only for 30 or 40 minutes. The India top three are so short of confidence.

  4. What's the forecast?published at 10:47 British Summer Time 12 August 2018

BBC Weather's Helen Willetts: "I have not got good news. It is humid air and that will have an impact. Warm rain on its way and quite a lot of rain is on its way. The rain stretches back from south west London down to Portsmouth. It is moving north east. It is coming our way.

"It will be heavy rain and the chances are when it sets in it could be here for the rest of the day.

"There are little gaps in the radar in the next hour but after that it looks like one mass of rain coming in.

"I am hopeful tomorrow might be an improvement, in the afternoon at least."

  5. 'Perfect conditions for bowling'published at 10:46 British Summer Time 12 August 2018

In these conditions it seems perfect for bowling, there’s been moisture overnight and it feels right for bowling. In the back of your mind is you wouldn’t want it to rain all day and you’ve missed a chance in the first 15 overs to knock a few over. If they bowl straight away they are going to win.

For India, to get out with a draw they are going to have to bat 130 overs, and they haven’t got near that in this series. You'd think a couple of hundreds are going to be needed to get out of this.

I must say I nearly spat my cereal out when I read that. "We need to bat as long as possible." Why??!

Because of the prospect of more lost play, many of you were calling for England to declare last night.

That's seemed like a perfectly reasonable suggestion. England surely already have enough runs already.

When Chris Woakes was interviewed after play he said that England wanted to get a few more runs before any declaration. I thought that might have just been because Woakes had been out in the middle all day and not privy to any tactical discussions.

What Jonny Bairstow has had to say this morning might anger a few...

I bring good news - it's not raining at Lord's. It's actually pretty pleasant here, albeit a bit grey and cloudy. The forecast has slightly improved, too. We should get some play this morning, but I'm not too confident about this afternoon...

Yesterday was a special day for Chris Woakes. He scored his maiden Test century to help England close the day 250 runs ahead of India.

England were in a precarious position but Woakes shared an excellent 189-run partnership with Jonny Baristow to take the game away from their opponents.

Woakes ended the day 120 not out with England on 357-6.

Hello. The rain has done a better job of stopping England in this match than India. We've effectively only had four sessions of play but England are in a very dominant position.

It now seems to be a matter of hoping the rain stays away long enough for Joe Root's side to complete the job.

Or can India hold their hosts off? Let's find out.
