Pant could be the next Adam Gilchrist, he's so aggressive with such natural talent. A couple of fours will get to the grass that hasn't been dried and could get the ball wet. That's another tactic for India.

As we mentioned yesterday, debutant Rishabh Pant likes to attack.

He has a first-class strike rate of 95.24 and is one of the most exciting players in the IPL.

He got off the mark in Test cricket with a six yesterday, becoming the first Indian to do so.

He has a first-class triple hundred so can certainly bat.

It's a big session for England and it feels like a bowling morning.

If you're just joining us and wondering why play hasn't begun - the resumption has been delayed by 15 minutes due to rain this morning.

It's damp and overcast. It definitely feels like a time for bowling.

England might fancy their chances of wrapping this up quickly. Rishabh Pant will probably play in the only way he knows... aggressively.

    Play begins at 11:15 BST.

Trevor Bayliss is 55 years old, but has a shoulder of steel. England's slip catching practice - Bayliss' rocket throws, Phil Neale's precision edging - is laser-guided. At the other end of the ground, India are a shambles. Umesh Yadav's throws have Ravi Jadeja fearing for his life.

One of the highlights for England yesterday was Alastair Cook's stunning catch to dismiss Ajinkya Rahane.

He has been talking about it to TMS.

"I cant remember too much about it," he said. "We were talking just before saying he was playing aggressively and saying a chance might come.

"It was right in the middle of me and Jonny, it was probably his catch. He didn't go for it. Huckily I reacted just in enough time and it stuck right in the middle of my hand."

The catch is the latest fine effort by England players on this ground, following Andrew Strauss' effort in the 2005 Ashes to dismiss Adam Gilchrist and Ben Stokes off Adam Voges in the 2015 Ashes.

Cook has asked on TMS how his compared to those two.

"Why don't you do a poll on your website!" he said.

"It is probably not as iconic as those two but for me it was pretty good catch."

    Thanks for the email, Michael.

This certainly sounds like an excellent discussion point for the day.

I enclose a picture of a recent 'sheep stop play' incident which reflects the joy of village cricket. Small groups of feral sheep and red deer are constant visitors to the pitch but they have never taken an active role in a game!

We play at the idyllic Grindleford Cricket Club in the Peak District. On 28 July during our fixture against Sheffield Civil Service, something happened mid-innings. The local farmer decided this was the time to move his sheep from grazing on one side of the ground and into fields over the bridge - necessitating several hundred sheep negotiating the boundary and the full car park!

The two sheep dogs set a fine precedent in the outfield and our captain (who happens to be a farmer and shepard) brought his captaincy/farming skills to bare. Some deft shovel and brush work followed and play resumed.

There is a host of County Championship games going on today too.

Division One leaders Surrey play Lancashire in a day-nighter, defending champions Essex are at Somerset, Hampshire host Notts - just to name a few of the tasty encounters.

The England players in the squad but not selected for this Test - Moeen Ali, Jamie Porter and Sam Curran - have all been released to play for their counties. Surrey opener Rory Burns could play himself into contention for a Test cap with a score.

It's been a grim morning, grey and mizzly. Spectators are huddled under stands, on the concourse, cradling warm drinks. We arrived with the ground under cover, but the sheets are starting to be peeled away. Play won't be delayed too long.

The bad news is there has been a bit of rain around this morning. The covers have been on to protect the pitch.

However the rain has stopped and the mopping up process has begun.

There will only be a 15-minute delay to the start of play. We will get under way at 11:15 BST.

I think yesterday showed that India are powered by solar energy. They almost grew in stature once the sun came out.

If you look back to the first two Tests, the ball hooped around. England win matches like that, we know that. Yesterday was a reminder that the England Test match team still has a lot to do to improve when the ball isn't doing as much. They still lack that one 'wow' bowler - somebody you can throw the ball to and they bowl at 90mph.

India will resume on 307-6 this morning.

They lost Hardik Pandya off the final ball of the day yesterday so debutant Rishabh Pant will be joined by Ravichandran Ashwin when play resumes.

Virat Kohli top scored yesterday with 97 but was dismissed by Adil Rashid late on. Kohli had put on 156 with Ajinkya Rahane, the tourists' best partnership of the tour.

England were frustrated for much of the day. Chris Woakes took three wickets in a good spell before lunch and is the leading wicket-taker in the match so far.

Good morning. Day one was a day that was difficult to call.

India passed 200 for just the second time of the series but they didn't quite press home a good position with Virat Kohli uncharacteristically falling just short of a hundred.

England opted to bowl first but only managed six wickets.

    The game is well poised.

If you were starting to think these matches were only going one way then it could be time to think again.

Yesterday India had arguably their best batting day of the tour.

    England have work to do...
