Pandya is taking the same approach to Broad as he did to Stokes and Rashid. Once you see the ball, try and whack it. Mid-on's hands are stung by a powerful shot off the first ball to show Broad what he is up against.

Beautiful. That's very well-timed in fairness. A wristy flick through mid-wicket that Viv Richards would have been proud of.

Now that is the power. Broad is smashed through the off side.

The lead is 497. Will the declaration come at 500? We could soon find out.

Ben Stokes has been put out of his misery. Stuart Broad replaces the limping all-rounder.

    Rahane 29, Pandya 27

Pandya is still trying to push this game along. He takes a couple of wild heaves at Rashid's leg spin without connecting. Kohli is still in the dressing room rather than on the balcony. He looks pleased with the situation as you'd expect.

Kapil Dev reached 500 Test runs in his 10th Test match and that was also Hardik Pandya's 500th run - in his 10th match.

Keaton Jennings would probably be the most at risk if England went for that method, having dropped a few sitters. He has actually bowled before in Tests for England you may remember. He bowls his medium-pace seamers relatively often in county cricket.

Ben Stokes is still struggling physically. He's been clattered to the rope by Hardik Pandya again which won't help.

VB: I feel at this point all the top order batsmen should be forced to bowl some medium pace, just so that they understand the effort involved. Perhaps they'd be more willing not to flash at obviously wide ones next time.

India will be buoyed by the fact that they have come back. There will have been doubts after Lord's, but now there are no doubts in their minds.

Moeen Ali is currently 77 not out for Worcestershire. James Vince is 89 not out for Hampshire. Could England turn back to one of those two if Jonny Bairstow is ruled out of the next Test? Bairstow has fractured a finger earlier when wicketkeeping, if you missed it.

Will the 500 mark be the point India pull out? They are edging ever close to that lead.

I think they will bat until 17:30 BST and the lead will be 500 and then they can have an hour at the English batsmen.

I've said for a while there isn't really a 'big four' like some people suggest. Smith and Kohli in particular have proven in recent months that they are a level above Root.

Ben Stokes is running in a little gingerly now. I think it's just weariness rather than any injury. Ajinkya Rahane was his captain in the IPL this year - and Jos Buttler's for that matter - and Stokes beats him with a scrambled-seamed beauty. That was almost unplayable. Stokes grimaces and wanders back to his mark.

Charles Glover: This series is showing just how far ahead are Smith, Kohli and Williamson of Root. Kohli is ruthless. Root could learn a thing or two.

Rahane wants to get after Rashid but the spinner is bowling alright now in his 23rd over. He skips down but doesn't quite get to the pitch and has to block.

Hardik Pandya on the other hand is going for a simpler option. A huge back swing and he thumps the ball for four. That was hit hard.

England have bowled 100 overs now in this innings and Ben Stokes still has to run in for his captain. The all-rounder looks to be tiring. He bowls one short and wide and Rahane helps himself. Kohli has disappeared from the India balcony so I don't think there's a declaration coming soon.

My theory at this stage is that the damage has been done, you might as well try and pick up a couple more wickets. If you get hit for a couple more fours so be it.

With not much of any importance happening on the field, I'm going to tell you another thing that annoys me in cricket.

Putting the youngest player at short leg. Why??? Put your best short leg fielder there, not just the newest addition to the team.

Rashid is back and concedes three runs from his over.

If you drop a catch most would want another chance straightaway to make amends but Jennings doesn't look like that to me, he looks in the 'please send me to Third man' mould.

Craig Hanna: Don't want to focus on one player but Jennings has to be dropped. His mistakes are crucial. Confidence is gone. Why he is even in the slips when there are better slip players in the team is poor team management by Mr Root.

Ben Stokes starts waywardly before straightening up a little. This game is just meandering along before the declaration. Bumble is singing on Sky which tells you everything you need to know.
