The players know they have to change their mentality. Technically there are some areas of concern but more so it is the mentality that they always want to attack.

England have brilliant moments like at Lord's and exciting moments like at Edgbaston but also moments when look at them and say "what are you doing?"

Jonathan Agnew has also given his expert views on England's batting.

He talks a lot about "familiar frailties" and also has his say on the prospect of potential changes.

Keaton Jennings looks the man most at risk.

Craig Jardine: No rush for India with so long left in the Test. They can bat through to lunch on Wednesday, post a lead of 800, declare giving England two sessions to survive, then bowl them out before tea, leaving an early finish.

Michael Vaughan also had his say on England's batting yesterday.

He criticised its' fragility and said after the first two wickets fell it was "time to close the curtains and hide."

India have been very good. There have been spells where they have been vulnerable. They were 80-3 on day one and it felt like a similar story. But then there was the key partnership between Kohli and Rahane. The sun was shining and there was no swing. England struggled.

Then yesterday morning India were pathetic with the bat and poor with the ball. I have no idea what England had for lunch. It is the third time in two years they have been bowled out in a session.

Between 1938 and 2016 England were never bowled out in a session.

Yesterday was the third time it has happened in the last two years.

The hosts reached 54-0 but then crumbled to 161 all out.

That gave India a massive first innings lead, one that could have already been enough to win the game.

However in the late evening sunshine India piled more misery onto England. They reached 124-2 at the close, a massive 292 runs ahead with eight wickets remaining.

The morning pleasantries between myself and a colleague went something like this this morning.

    "Morning."

    "Morning."

    "How are you?"

    "I'm good, you?"

    "Not bad. Better than England..."

It's hard to argue with him. Things are looking pretty bleak for Joe Root's side.
