The extra half hour will be eight overs. So if it takes 45 minutes it will still be eight overs.

The field is still set for the bouncer to Stuart Broad. I'm not sure he's good enough to play Shami's best ball. Just do that!

Broad is hopping around like a cat on a hot tin roof. Remember when his batting wasn't this comical?

Kohli does not look amused after another boundary.

Stuart Broad has now reached 3,000 Test runs, making him the fifth all-rounder to reach 3,000 runs and 400 wickets.

At 17:30 I text my boss to say I'm taking tomorrow off because the cricket is getting exciting. Needless to say, by the time I got to my car and switched the radio on I soon text her to say I wasn't anymore.

Stuart Broad is already improving his average in 2018. He was averaging just 6.5 but a hook for four takes his past that.

    And again!

Broad knows the bouncer is coming and is already stepping away before the ball is bowled. It looks ridiculous but is kinda effective.

Francis Edwards: Chris Woakes will not be a genuine class all rounder unless he can sort two things. One, he’s awful overseas. Two, he is very vulnerable to pace. We saw it in the winter with the Aussie juggernaut bowlers and here now with Bumrah.

It went very quickly and Kohli could not get his hands round it. He is looking at his hands as if they have betrayed him.

  9. dropped catch

Rashid dropped on 22published at 91 overs

Rashid is living a charmed life. He edges another one to the slips - having been out off a no ball earlier - and this time Virat Kohli spills it! That's uncharacteristic from the India captain. It was a tough chance. He stares at his hands in disbelief.

Stuart Broad has done a good job at hiding at the non-striker's end in the last few overs while Rashid has swung from the hip.

He's got two balls of Shami's over to face now.

While Stokes and Buttler were still at the crease you felt England still had an outside chance.

Stokes looked heartbroken when he fell for his 275-minute 62.

Adil Rashid is now England's third-highest scorer in the innings. With all the fielders in close there's little danger once he makes decent connection. The ball races away to the boundary. It's a bit hit and mix mind. After hitting that four he misses the next three.

The official close of play is 18:30 but if we get there and England are still batting then India can take the extra half hour to try and finish the job tonight.

It has been an entertaining day, ultimately a pretty unsuccessful one for England. The tempo has ebbed and flowed, the balance of the match hasn't really. India have been really impressive, even when they were not taking wickets. They have taken some good catches.

India have moved to the brink of winning this game with exceptional new-ball bowling. They've taken four wickets since taking it. Chris Woakes was the third of those...

Rashid has not got many runs in Test cricket but has scored stacks of runs in his own way for Yorkshire. As a reward he is going to have Bumrah round the wicket bowling bouncers at him.

Rashid is going to hit anything that is short and wide. This wristy shot off Bumrah is a copy of the one in the quick's previous over. It goes for four.

Bumrah has had enough and is going to try and bounce him out...

Buttler and Stokes batted for 346 balls but when Buttler fell Jonny Bairstow came in and followed him back to the pavilion after just one delivery.

Buttler played so well but there is a certain irony that for a man known as a one-day destroyer he didn't play a shot to get out.

So England have Stuart Broad and Adil Rashid at the crease. They're not two men known for their defensive play. Neither look particularly interested in blocking out the 90-odd overs they'll have to to save this Test. Rashid is wafting at short balls.
