    Surrey 434 v Worcestershire 261-3 (87 overs)

A disappointing way for Tom Fell's fine innings to end as he clips a leg-stump delivery with the new ball from Sam Curran straight to mid-wicket. Travis Head is the new Worcestershire batsman and is away with four through backward square leg.

    Leicestershire 440 v Durham 184 & 59-0 (22 overs)

South Africa Test opener Aiden Markram is showing the Durham fans why the club brought him to the Riverside with some fine strokes after they were forced to follow-on by Leicestershire.

Boundaries have come off front and back foot and he has reached 34 not out, with Cameron Steel on 18 at the other end. However, they still need another 197 to avoid an innings defeat. Patience is the name of the game for Leicestershire.

We had two results during the morning session.

Yorkshire defeated champions Essex by 91 runs at Chelmsford - and that after being bowled out for 50 on the opening day - as Steve Patterson returned a career-best 6-40.

Meanwhile, in Division Two, leaders Warwickshire completed a comfortable eight-wicket home victory over Derbyshire, with Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott guiding them home.

  10. Kent openers press onpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Glamorgan 94 & 274 (86.3 overs) v Kent 174 & 53-0 (15 overs)

Plain sailing so far for Kent as Sean Dickson clips a four off David Lloyd through square leg to post a half-century opening stand with Daniel Bell-Drummond. Another 142 required by the visitors - Glamorgan need an inspired spell of bowling from someone pretty soon.

  11. Positive start by Worcestershirepublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Surrey 434 v Worcestershire 240-2 (28 overs)

    Joe ClarkeImage source, Getty

Joe Clarke tucks away a boundary off Stuart Meaker and Tom Fell follows suit when the Surrey paceman sends down a full toss later in the over. Amar Virdi is tighter at the other end, conceding only a single from the next over.

Worcestershire now 194 behind, Fell has 83 and Clarke is 38 not out.

  12. 50 runs

Fifty for Ross Taylorpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Nottinghamshire 302 & 283-3 (67.1 overs) v Hampshire 223

A rapid half-century for Ross Taylor. The New Zealander has taken just 46 balls to get there, hitting four boundaries and two sixes.

Hampshire are under the pump at Trent Bridge.

    Somerset 429 v Lancashire 334-5 (99.3 overs)

Dane Vilas gets a four off the third ball after lunch from Jack Leach to move to 153 runs off 238 balls.

A wonderful knock from the South African, who has used controlled aggression perfectly.

  14. Back to itpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

So we've had a couple of finishes in the morning session, but there's still plenty of cricket to be played.

The players are back out in the middle at Old Trafford, Trent Bridge and the Oval.

A few thoughts on Yorkshire's victory over Essex this morning:

from David Hutton: "@YorkshireCCC unbelievable lads. Real Yorkshire CCC grit and fight after that first day one session. Start of bigger and better things to come. YORKSHIRE #bbccricket"

Seems a long time ago now that another Twitter poster included "#GaleOUT" and "#MoxonOUT" after Yorkshire's first innings against Essex.

From MattyTheGeneral: "A tale of 2 pitches - both underwater days before a county championship match. @EssexCricket work socks off and produce a fantastic match. @YorkshireCCC can't be bothered and not a ball bowled. #bbccricket"

In case you've forgotten, there wasn't a single ball bowled in the Yorkshire v Essex game at Headingley last month - though the White Rose county would certainly dispute the 'can't be bothered' claim.

From Peter: "@EssexCricket Bowl them out for 50 and still get pasted. Looks like Silverwood took the winning mentality with him when he left Essex, or maybe the Grayson effect has wormed its way back in"

  16. Kent begin run-chasepublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Glamorgan 94 & 274 (86.3 overs) v Kent 174 & 25-0 (7 overs)

No major alarms so far for Kent, who need to score 195 to win at Sophia Gardens. Daniel Bell-Drummond is 11 not out and Sean Dickson has three. Marchant de Lange and Timm van der Gugten are sharing the bowling workload for Glamorgan.

  17. Uphill battle for Durhampublished at 13:22 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Leicestershire 440 v Durham 184 & 36-0 - lunch

    Richard Rae
    BBC Radio Leicester Sport

It's been eight years since Leicestershire last enforced a follow-on, so it was understandable that Michael Carberry should choose to do exactly that after his bowlers had picked up the final three wickets of Durham's first innings - the last man to go, Graeme Clark, bowled by a fine Gavin Griffiths' yorker to give the young seamer a first-class best return of 4-34 and a broken stump as a souvenir.

Even so, it can't have been a straightforward decision - true, Durham's top order has proven fragile this season, but the pitch is still docile and the sun hot and unbroken.

Extending the Foxes' advantage back up to somewhere around 450 and then getting Durham back in in the final session, and facing a final day's batting on a pitch which by then might have at least started to deteriorate, must have crossed Carberry's mind.

The comfort with which Aiden Markram and Cameron Steel saw out the 13 overs Leicestershire bowled before the interval must have concerned him - other than the odd ball keeping low, there were no alarms.

Malan looking 'imperious'published at 13:17 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Middlesex 230 & 171-2 v Sussex 323 - lunch

    Adrian Harms
    BBc Sussex commentator

Quality batting from Dawid Malan and Nick Gubbins this morning has taken Middlesex from a perilous position of 9-2 yesterday evening to 171-2 at lunch

Malan has been imperious, his cover driving in particular has been a pleasure to watch, but Sussex haven't helped themselves with keeper Ben Brown dropping Gubbins when he was on just 35 and the total 105

The new ball has been key in this game and Middlesex will want to press home their advantage in the 28 overs before the new ball is available.

  19. Bears discipline pleases coachpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

Warwickshire (23 pts) beat Derbyshire (5 pts) by eight wickets

Warwickshire consolidated their position at the top of Division Two by completing a final-morning win over Derbyshire at Edgbaston.

And head coach Jim Troughton afterwards expressed satisfaction at his side's recent consistency, despite losing paceman Ryan Sidebottom to injury during the game.

"We put in three hard, disciplined days work at Northampton last week. The challenge was to do the same again - and the guys did that," he told BBC WM.

"The way Chris Wright, Henry Brookes and Jeets (Jeetan Patel) got through their second innings was very impressive. Jeets and Henry got the wickets but Wrighty had a really good game. He had to bowl more overs because we were a bowler down and he also strapped his pads on and batted for three or four sessions to play a really important innings."

  20. Fell stands firm for Pearspublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Surrey 434 v Worcestershire 228-2 - lunch

    Chris Egerton
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

A good morning for Worcestershire, who having lost their opening three matches back in Division One, will be satisfied with their work, having lost Daryl Mitchell early on.

There may have been some jitters when the ex-captain fell to Rikki Clarke, having added just four to his overnight score.

But England Lions batsman Joe Clarke and 24 year-old Tom Fell eased those fears, with Fell reaching his maiden half-century of the season.

Both will look to take advantage of an increasingly batsman-friendly Oval pitch, but the new ball is due four overs after lunch.
