After a 100-minute delay to the start of play at Sophia Gardens, it takes eight deliveries for Kent to finish off Glamorgan's second innings as Matt Henry has Michael Hogan well-taken low at first slip by Sean Dickson.

The New Zealand pace bowler takes 4-59 for match figures of 8-90 and Kent need to score 195 to secure their second win of the season.

  8. Yorkshire's amazing turnaroundpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

Yorkshire (19 pts) beat Essex (3 pts) by 91 runs

Steve Patterson leads Yorkshire off the field at ChelmsfordImage source, Rex Features

It's not been an easy start to the summer for Yorkshire. David Willey and Liam Plunkett are both away on T20 duty overseas, and don't forget that their main spinner, Adil Rashid, has opted out of red-ball cricket for the time being.

Victory at Chelmsford, though, after being all out for 50 in the first innings will surely have the team thinking that they are capable of winning from any position.

It was a bold move by head coach Andrew Gale to send Jonny Bairstow out to open in the second innings, the kind of flexible thinking that should stand them in good stead in the months ahead.

Yorkshire's batting problems haven't gone away - yet - but what price on another title success now?

  9. Durham face 'massive job'published at 12:40 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Leicestershire 440 v Durham 184 & 24-0 (7 overs)

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

Leicestershire have enforced the follow-on. It's something my colleague Richard Rae hasn't seen them do and he has been commentating on their matches for five years.

The last time they did it was in 2010 and they won both that season against Northants and Surrey. Durham, for the record, have not won a game when following on.

There was once a t-shirt popular with Sunderland fans which said "I saw John Stead score for Sunderland".

Perhaps Durham could make some money with "I saw Aiden Markram score for Durham"?

But on a serious note, the batsmen have a massive job on their hands to save this one. The pitch is not misbehaving it is purely down to too many of them being out of nick. And the only way they can overcome that is by spending time in the middle. We'll see what happens.

  10. wicket

WICKET Mullaney (c Vince b Weatherley) 130published at 12:38 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Nottinghamshire 302 & 222-3 (58.2 overs) v Hampshire 223

A second first-class wicket for Joe Weatherley, whose part-time off-spin does the trick straight away, as James Vince takes a catch at mid-wicket.

Steven Mullaney's excellent innings comes to an end on 130, but the Notts captain will I'm sure be delighted with his work.

  11. YORKSHIRE BEAT ESSEX BY 91 RUNSpublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 6 May 2018
    Breaking

    Yorkshire 50 & 329 v Essex 142 & 146 (53 overs)

Game over - and what a victory for Yorkshire at Chelmsford.

Peter Siddle, on 24, shapes to tickle Tim Bresnan away to fine leg, but doesn't make contact and the umpire adjudges him lbw.

It's the first time defending champions Essex have lost a Championship game since they went down by 11 runs to Glamorgan in September 2016 - and their will be some head-scratching as to how they can have let the game get away after skittling the Tykes for 50 on the first morning.

Seam bowler Steve Patterson takes a career-best 6-40, while Ben Coad, who removed Ryan ten Doeschate, James Foster and Simon Harmer in the space of 10 balls, finishes with 3-36.

Yorkshire take home 19 points, while Essex must settle for three.

  12. Vilas getting a move onpublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Somerset 429 v Lancashire 310-4 (89.3 overs)

Dane Vilas is seeing it like a football at Old Trafford. The South African has raced to 139 not out with a succession of boundaries.

The new ball is not doing anything for Somerset. It's racing to the boundary with regularity.

  13. When is it wet when it isn't wet?published at 12:27 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Glamorgan 94 & 273-9 (85 overs) v Kent 174 - start delayed

Here is Glamorgan's social media statement, external about why there hasn't been any play yet at Sophia Gardens:

"An early lunch was taken at 12noon on day 3 of Glamorgan’s @CountyChamp, external match against Kent @SophiaGardens, external

"After arriving at 8am, the groundstaff discovered that an overnight leak in the underground drainage system had created a damp patch on the square.

"With good drying conditions, plenty of time left in the game and hard work by the groundstaff, the small patch dried out, allowing play to commence at 12.40pm and only eight overs of play being lost.

"Glamorgan Cricket apologises for any inconvenience caused."

  14. Essex keep fightingpublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Yorkshire 50 & 329 v Essex 142 & 139-9 (51 overs)

It would be in keeping with the incredible turn of events in this game if Essex's last-wicket pair were to now see them to what would be an improbable victory.

Peter Siddle has hit three boundaries and is 17 not out, but it's surely too tall an order for the Australian and partner Sam Cook.

Tim Bresnan finds the edge of Cook's bat, but the ball lands just in front of the slips anjd runs away to third man for two. Yorkshire need one wicket - Essex need another 99 runs.

  15. 50 runs

Fifty for Nick Gubbinspublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Middlesex 230 & 137-2 (40.3 overs) v Sussex 323

Another potential England player reaches a landmark. Nick Gubbins was impressive in the North v South series in pre-season and is definitely on the radar of national selection.

He passes fifty with a four off George Garton in an innings which has included five fours and a six.

  16. wicket

WICKET Chanderpaul (lbw b Overton) 6published at 12:16 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Somerset 429 v Lancashire 283-4 (87.2 overs)

Big scalp for Craig Overton as Shiv Chanderpaul goes back onto his stumps and is trapped lbw.

The West Indian legend never got going and Somerset will be happy with their work so far today. Steven Croft is the new batsman.

  17. Markram off the markpublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Leicestershire 440 v Durham 184 & 6-0 (2 overs)

    Aiden Markram has two runs!

The South African Test opener who averages 55 with four tons in his 10 Tests to date, started his County Championship career with three successive ducks.

But he's got two runs now. How many will follow?

  18. wicket

WICKET Porter (lbw Patterson) 3published at 12:11 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Yorkshire 50 & 329 v Essex 142 & 126-9 (48 overs)

Yorkshire almost there as Steve Patterson takes his sixth wicket of the innings. Ben Coad is taken off at the other end after a spell which broke the back of Essex's batting and Tim Bresnan takes over.

  19. 50 runs

for Tom Fellpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Surrey 434 v Worcestershire 186-2 (61 overs)

    Tom FellImage source, Getty Images

It's been a patient knock by Tom Fell, who has reached a 126-ball fifty at the Oval with a cover drive for four off Conor McKerr.

Worcestershire are still 248 in arrears, but are looking good in their quest to save the follow-on with Fell and Joe Clarke on the verge of a half-century partnership.
