Century for Keaton Jenningspublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Somerset 429 v Lancashire 233-2 (74 overs)

Well played Keaton Jennings. A first century for Lancashire comes with a lovely straight drive off Jack Leach for four.

He's 102 not out from 234 balls with 16 fours. Jennings hasn't played for England since the fourth Test against South Africa last summer. Could some runs force his way back in?

  2. Update from Cardiffpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Glamorgan 94 & 273-9 (85 overs) v Kent 174 - start delayed

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

Red faces in Cardiff where we have no play despite blue skies and warm temperatures.

A leak in the covers overnight has produced a damp area near the wicket, even though it hasn't rained.

When we do start, Glamorgan's last pair will try to scrape the lead over 200, after Kent took three late wickets last night to make them favourites to win today.

  3. Notts continue to buildpublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Nottinghamshire 302 & 148 (40 overs) v Hampshire 223

Steven Mullaney (90 not out) and Jake Libby (52 not out) continue on their merry way at Trent Bridge.

Hampshire are going to face an almighty effort to avoid defeat the way it's shaping up.

  4. Tykes call up Coadpublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Yorkshire 50 & 329 v Essex 142 & 111-4 (36 overs)

The Joe Root experiment lasted one over and Ben Coad is now bowling in partnership with Steve Patterson for Yorkshire. Essex skipper Ryan ten Doeschate forces Patterson away off the back foot for four to move on to 31 not out, and Dan Lawrence has 32 at the other end. So far, so good for the champions - 127 more needed.

  5. Early boost for Derbyshirepublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Derbyshire 318 & 209 v Warwickshire 439 & 29-2 (11.1 overs)

A streaky boundary for Ian Bell, who jabs down on a leg-stump yorker from Duanne Olivier and squirts it away past the slips off the outside edge. Derbyshire strike at the start of the next over, though, as leg-spinner Matt Critchley has Dominic Sibley caught behind for seven. Warwickshire need another 60 to win - surely they're not going to let this slip?

WICKET Mitchell (lbw Clarke) 81published at 11:08 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Surrey 434 v Worcestershire 139-2 (47.1 overs) resumes 11:00 BST

Daryl Mitchell only manages to add four to his overnight 77 not out as he is trapped on the back foot by a ball from Surrey seamer Rikki Clarke which keeps a little low. Not a difficult decision for the umpire. Worcestershire trail by 295 as Joe Clarke makes his way out to join Tom Fell.

  7. Key wickets swing game in Kent's favourpublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Glamorgan 94 & 273-9 (85 overs) v Kent 174 - start delayed

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio Kent

At around 18:00 BST last night, this game was delicately poised.

Glamorgan were on 260-6 and looked like posting a testing total for Kent to chase today with David Lloyd and Andrew Salter setting a platform.

Expect to see a few more topless patrons in the crowd here at Cardiff today

But both fell to Matt Henry as the shadows lengthened in the Welsh capital, with Harry Podmore snatching the wicket of Marchant de Lange with the final ball of the day to make this game Kent's to lose.

Glamorgan lead by 193 with one second innings left, so expect Kent to chase a total of around 200 in favourable batting conditions and an improving pitch.

Saying that, Kent haven't scored more than 174 this season, so it could still be a sticky chase.

  8. Patterson eyes five-forpublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Yorkshire 50 & 329 v Essex 142 & 107-4 (34 overs)

Seam bowler Steve Patterson is looking for a five-for for Yorkshire after a superb spell yesterday. But Essex batsman Dan Lawrence strokes the ball stylishly through the covers for four to bring up a 50 partnership with Ryan ten Doeschate - 131 more needed.

  9. Root surprise by Yorkshirepublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Yorkshire 50 & 329 v Essex 142 & 102-4 (33 overs)

An unorthodox move by Yorkshire skipper Gary Ballance as he hands the ball to Joe Root at the start of play. An over of off-spin yields five runs as Essex's total reaches three figures. They now need another 136 to win.

Right then, who's up for some sun-soaked County Championship?

Play is under way in each of our games, apart from Glamorgan v Kent, where they've managed somehow to have trouble with a wet pitch in this weather. Wales, eh?

Essex have not lost a game of Championship cricket since September 2016 and skipper Ryan ten Doeschate is hopeful they can bat their way to victory in their see-saw game against Yorkshire.

The defending champions need to score another 141 with six wickets standing - a tense situation they could not have expected after bowling Yorkshire out for 50 on the opening morning.

"When they were 276-3, 180-odd ahead, we were looking (a target of) at something over 300. But we've probably got level and 238 is a fair chase on this wicket," he told BBC Essex.

"We've ridden the wave and it's now just who can play better. We won't have to worry about the new ball. We'll have to make sure we bat another 40 overs and we'll be close."

England batsman Keaton Jennings has his sights on a first Championship hundred for Lancashire on the third morning against Somerset at Old Trafford.

The former Durham left-hander was 91 not out at the end of day two, with partner Dane Vilas on 83, but the Red Rose county still trail by 212 runs.

"Dane and I complement each other. It was really good fun to put together a partnership where we could get into the driver's seat in a session or two's time. It was really enjoyable," Jennings said.

"He was a couple of years ahead of me [at King Edward VII School, Johannesburg]. At times I wondered if I was playing on the same surface because he was hitting the ball so beautifully."

    Nottinghamshire 302 & 136-0 v Hampshire 223 - match resumes at 11:00

    Steven MullaneyImage source, Getty Images

Division One leaders Nottinghamshire are in a fantastic position at Trent Bridge, leading by 215 runs with 10 wickets in hand.

The hosts dominated proceedings yesterday, bowling Hampshire out for 223 before openers Steven Mullaney and Jake Libby racked up 136 without loss.

"We're slightly on the back foot at the moment but it's a big first hour tomorrow, there's no reason why we can't chip away at them and knock them back a little bit," Hampshire's Lewis McManus said yesterday.

"Although it's a nice wicket to bat on there's still a little bit for the bowlers. Hopefully we can exploit that tomorrow and get a few early wickets."

    Joe DenlyImage source, Getty Images

Joe Denly bowled six overs of leg-spin in support of his seam attack

Kent skipper Joe Denly praised the "relentless" line and length of his bowlers as they gave themselves a chance of victory by restricting Glamorgan to 273-9 at Sophia Gardens.

They did so despite losing all-rounder Darren Stevens from the attack for bowling two deliveries deemed dangerous by the umpires, with the Welsh county ending day two 193 runs ahead.

"There was nothing malicious in it, he's lost a bit of skin on his thumb, so if the ball hits that it's awkward for it. And it's just a genuine slip, which is disappointing," Denly told BBC Radio Kent.

"We got the rewards at the end for a hard effort throughout the day. We're in a good position. But Glamorgan are a strong bowling outfit and will ask questions of us."

    Middlesex 230 & 64-2 v Sussex 323 - match resumes at 11:00

Harry Finch scored his first ever century in the County Championship yesterday, making 103 in his side's 323 all out at Hove.

He told BBC Sussex it was made all the sweeter by the fact his nan and dog were watching on in the stands...but knows, of course, that batting is all about taking the ruff with the smooth.

Rory Burns' score was the highest of the season so far in the Championship

Surrey captain Rory Burns declined to be drawn on his chances of an England Test call despite a superb 193 in their Championship Division One game against Worcestershire at the Oval.

"I can only score runs and then it's down to other people to make decisions. That's all I ever try to do," he told BBC Radio London at the end of the second day's play.

"Of course I am pretty satisfied with 193, but I wouldn't have minded a double hundred.

"The surface is always offering something - it's slightly two-paced and a little bit tennis ball-like in its bounce. My gameplan was to stick in there and pick off what I could when they came into my area."

  19. Warwickshire closing in on winpublished at 10:38 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

    Derbyshire 318 & 209 v Warwickshire 439 & 19-1 - match resumes at 11:00

Warwickshire require another 70 runs to beat Derbyshire and extend their lead at the top of the early Division Two table.

Their position was built on solid batting and six wickets from skipper Jeetan Patel, who is delighted with his side's performance.

"The guys have put in a lot of hard graft over the last three days and we are in a good position," the off-spinner said.

"There are no guarantees, but hopefully one good partnership in the morning will break the back of it."
