Tammy Beaumont becomes the first player to score back-lo-back hundreds in two different series, having done so against Pakistan too. England have bounced back authoritatively, and have shown why they're world champions. They don't revolve around one player as they may have done in the pre-2015 era.

Beaumont struggled early on against a few outswingers from Kapp - but once she got through that gritty patch, she was able to move up through the gears. I don't think they underestimated South Africa - South Africa brought their A game.

229 isn't the easiest target on paper, on a surface which was difficult to get in on.

Knight cuts Khaka hard for four to reduce the deficit to 14. Four more, blasted through extra cover, means it's 10 to win. Smiles all around Canterbury.

Here's how Beaumont reached her century:

  7. Eng 211-3published at 43 overs

    18 needed from 42 balls

Kapp, now on 99 ODI wickets, will also complete her allocation of overs. Knight and Sciver exchange singles before the skipper bashes a high-ish (but just about legal) full toss to deep square leg for one. Sciver plays a similar shot to a similar delivery, and a chipped Knight single to long-on leaves Kapp still on 99 wickets - her figures being 10-0-53-1.

  8. Eng 206-3published at 42 overs

    Target 229

Shabnim Ismail to finish her spell here - South Africa have to go for broke and bowl their main bowlers out. Sciver has the time to see Ismail off - or play herself in, if you prefer - it's not often you see a maiden over in the 42nd over of an ODI, but there you go. Ismail finishes with figures of 10-1-30-0.

That partnership was, we believe, a record third-wicket partnership between England and South Africa, beating a 152 between Clare Connor and Claire Taylor. We have to say "we believe" because some of the early records are not the best.

Natalie Sciver is the new batter for England - and is characteristically off the mark with her signature "Natmeg" shot, knocking the ball between her legs for a single.

And after crashing another four through the leg side, Beaumont finally perishes as Kapp slants in a full delivery which takes her on the pad.

Sportingly, three or four South Africans - including the captain, bowler and wicketkeeper - shake Beaumont's hand as she leaves the arena.

It's back-to-back ODI hundreds for Tammy Beaumont - reaching the mark from 121 balls, she whips Kapp wide of mid-on and it was four from the moment it left her bat.

Beaumont does come down the track, Ismail spots her and spears in a fuller delivery which Beaumont digs out. But a quick single takes her to 97. The inevitable moves closer.

I think she'll come down the ground and hit her over the top for a first-bounce four.

  17. Eng 196-2published at 39.3 overs

    Target 229

Ismail switches to the Pavilion End for the first time, but one or two South African fielders look like they've accepted the inevitable here. Beaumont clips a single to mid-wicket, and Laura Wolvaardt's throw hits Knight's bat as she tries to make her ground at the striker's end. The England skipper rotates the strike well - Beaumont facing, on 96...

  18. Eng 194-2published at 39 overs

    Beaumont 95, Knight 60

More easy pickings for England against Khaka. Beaumont is hit on the pad on 94... but neither bowler nor wicketkeeper appeal, as the ball looked to be missing the stumps in at least two dimensions. Knight slashes another four backward of point - England are 35 runs from victory. 66 balls left. This stand is worth 143.

    Eng 186-2

Beaumont into the 90s - the World Cup's player of the tournament lofts Kapp for a first-bounce four over extra cover. Fortune favours Knight as she lofts one towards long-on and two fielders are close to being under it. Ismail leaves it to Khaka who dives for the catch - but neither of them take it. The luckless Kapp has 0-39 from eight overs.
