Kent through then, booking a semi-final date with Worcestershire on Sunday.

What about this game? Essex or Yorkshire?

Well, Yorkshire were batting first, and have completed their innings.

    Let's see how it went.

  2. Reaction: 'A poor day for Notts'published at 17:33 British Summer Time 14 June 2018

Kent beat Nottinghamshire by nine wickets

    James Taylor
Ex-England batsman on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

It's been a really poor day for Nottinghamshire. They've had a topsy-turvy tournament and only got through to this stage because they peaked at the right time and won their last three games to qualify.

Their tournament was really summed up by this performance.

  3. Reaction: 'A near-perfect display'published at 17:31 British Summer Time 14 June 2018

Kent beat Nottinghamshire by nine wickets

    James Taylor
Ex-England batsman on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Kent dominated proceedings. They played seriously controlled cricket and it was a real treat to watch.

They fielded beautifully with real intent, they bowled outstandingly well up front and the spinners were controlled in the middle.

Then with the bat, Heino Kuhn put on a masterclass, along with Daniel Bell-Drummond, and Joe Denly finished it off beautifully.

It was a near-on perfect display from Kent.

  4. Reaction: 'Kent a force to be reckoned with'published at 17:28 British Summer Time 14 June 2018

Kent beat Nottinghamshire by nine wickets

    Fabian Cowdrey
Former Kent all-rounder on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

I can't remember a more in-tune Kent team in all facets of the game. As a group they seem to be gelling at the right time, every player is playing for each other.

They are going to be a force to be reckoned with.

As the players head off at Chelmsford, let's get some reaction from that thumping win for Kent in the first play-off match...

  6. Yorkshire set Essex 260 targetpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 14 June 2018

    Yorks 259-7 after 50 overs

What a topsy-turvy innings that was... Essex looked like they were rolling up the Yorkshire batting order for fun when they reduced the visitors to 45-4.

However, Gary Ballance (91) and Jack Leaning (57) came into steady the innings, and Tim Bresnan's big-hitting 41 and Matthew Fisher's unbeaten 35 took Yorkshire beyond 250.

I reckon the visitors might have taken that after 10 overs...

    Bresnan b Coles 41 (Yorks 259-7)

Tim Bresnan, who played swashbucklingly after a quiet, nervy start, is clean bowled with the final ball of the innings. He swung wildly, and his stumps splattered.

Tasty ball, and that's where Yorkshire's innings finishes.

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

With the game done and dusted at Trent Bridge, you can now hear the last over of the Yorkshire innings on 5 live sports extra.

They'll be there for the whole of the Essex chase too.

  9. Yorks 253-6published at 49 overs

    Fisher 31, Bresnan 39

There was a rueful look to Neil Wagner's face after the fourth ball of that over after his full delivery was squirted over the slip cordon and out for a four by Tim Bresnan.

Three fours, one for Matthew Fisher and again thrashed on the full to the rope, came off that over. Not the best penultimate over for Essex.

  10. 6 runs

    Yorks 237-6published at 48 overs

    Fisher 26, Bresnan 29

Tim Bresnan tucks into some looser Ravi Bopara balls at the end of this over, first hooking a four and then clubbing a six into the river that runs alongside the ground.

The new ball is henceforth introduced, because the old one has quite simply sailed away.

Textbook from Mr Bresnan. Blast from the past stuff.

  11. Yorks 224-6published at 47 overs

    Fisher 23, Bresnan 16

After a pensive, stuttering start Matthew Fisher has got his eye in now and is getting some meaty chops onto the fuller deliveries from Matt Coles.

The first whistled to the boundary, he might have acquired another four had he not found the boundary fielder.

Three big overs will bring them close to or beyond 250...

Having survived the run out appeal, Yorkshire just looking to tick on the scoreboard as best they can before their bowlers take the ball in four overs time.

Matthew Fisher, like his team-mate Tim Bresnan, seems to be happy with the full stuff, maybe a little more uncomfortable with the short balls.

  13. Not outpublished at 45.4 overs

    Yorks 214-6

The video umpire was required for a review as Yorkshire chased a couple... Essex thought they'd run out Matthew Fisher but he was comfortably in.

    Relief for Yorkshire!

  14. Ballance knock key to Yorkshire's hopepublished at 45.1 overs

    Yorks 211-6

Gary Ballance was just starting to up the ante, as Yorkshire look to post a competitive total.

If it weren't for him, we might not be looking at a contest...

Before he feathered Neil Wagner to Adam Wheater to fall for 91.

  15. Yorks 208-6published at 45 overs

    Fisher 14, Bresnan 12

Matthew Fisher has a mixed over in a little battle with Matt Coles... swung wildly and missed, clipped a full toss for a couple and then ended the six-ball peppering (which also included a wide) with two boundaries.

Some late belief rushing through Fisher's veins. Five overs to go.

    Breaking

    Kent 257-1; Kuhn 124, Denly 52

Two balls later and it's all over as Joe Denly smashes his second six of the over to win the game and bring up his own half-century to boot.

Kent have cantered to victory at Trent Bridge with more than 14 overs to spare.

They will face Worcestershire in the semi-finals on Sunday.

  17. Kent 251-1published at 35.3 overs

Joe Denly fancies getting a half-century here as he comes down the pitch and drills Samit Patel straight down the ground for four, before launching him for six! A magnifcent hit!

  18. Kent 241-1published at 35 overs

Kent require 15 more runs to win

Billy Root is handed the ball now to bowl his off-breaks - a sure sign that this game is up for Nottinghamshire.

It was a tidy enough over until Joe Denly smashed him through mid-wicket for four. Eight from it in total.

  19. Yorks 194-6published at 44 overs

    Fisher 2, Bresnan 11

Tim Bresnan makes into double figures in the face of Simon Harmer's probing bowling.

Matthew Fisher crawls onto two. It is a tense time at the crease.

Essex can afford a few overs like that, the pressure is on Yorkshire to come up with a competitive total to defend on a pitch which doesn't look too lively.

  20. Kent 229-1 (target 256)published at 34 overs

    Kuhn 122, Denly 30

Kent are charging towards the finishing line now as Joe Denly goes to 30 with another boundary off Samit Patel.

He aimed a couple of other lusty blows too, but didn't find the middle of the bat.
