    Lancashire 109 v Yorkshire 192 & 157-4

Just the three runs for Jonny Bairstow in his first over after lunch - perhaps a more measured approach from the England keeper in this session?

The runs aren't flowing freely for Worcestershire, who have added just four more after the interval against Somerset, still trailing by 251 runs with five wickets in hand.

Surrey, leading Notts by 128 runs, have scored 13 since the break and are still only five down in the first innings.

They have restarted at Old Trafford, with Gary Ballance safely seeing off Tom Bailey's opening offerings.

Jonny Bairstow, already with 77 from 61 balls, will face his first ball of the second session at the other end.

Play is back under way everywhere after the luncheon interval.

We're also close to the resumption at Hove, where Sussex are hosting Glamorgan in a day-night game.

  4. Postpublished at 13:38 British Summer Time 23 July 2018

This could be a very interesting session in the County Championship.

Yorkshire and Jonny Bairstow will try to build a big lead against their old rivals Lancashire, Worcestershire's batsmen need to stop the rot against Somerset, and Surrey are looking to put their game out of Notts' reach.

Only two minutes until play resumes.

It’s a pity that either Ed Smith or James Taylor weren’t at New Road this morning, because, if they had been, they would have witnessed a spell of searingly fast bowling from Jamie Overton, who on this form, must be just about the quickest in the country.

Moeen Ali tried to fight fire with fire, and perished to a fine catch by Steve Davies; Brett D’Oliveira was pinned leg before, beaten for pace.

For Somerset, it was the icing on the cake, having already removed Travis Head, Daryl Mitchell and Joe Clarke, leaving Worcestershire with a long uphill struggle to get back in this game.

I'm going to take a short break and Katie Whyatt will be back with you in around 20 minutes.

    Enjoy the sunshine.

    Notts 210 v Surrey 325-5 - lunch

    Dave Bracegirdle

Rory Burns reached his third hundred of the season on the second morning of Surrey’s County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

The Surrey captain has been at the crease for a total of five hours and is unbeaten on 139 at lunch.

Burns, who had begun the day on 97, had to wait for 35 minutes before reaching the landmark, which arrived from 162 balls. Additionally, he had to survive a confident appeal from most of the Notts side for a caught behind off Stuart Broad, when on 99.

Luke Fletcher set the tone for a much-improved bowling performance by the hosts with a testing opening spell, which brought him the wicket of Scott Borthwick for 24.

Aaron Finch, playing his first red ball game since the end of the Australian domestic season in March, departed quickly after chipping Broad tamely to mid-on.

The England pace man, looking fit and bowling quickly, followed up that wicket with another scalp four balls later. Ben Foakes hoped to have got away with a thin snick as Riki Wessels juggled the chance at first slip but the fielder’s lightning reactions plucked the ball one-handed at the second attempt.

Ollie Pope stroked six boundaries in his 30 before becoming Harry Gurney’s 300th first class victim.

    Snaffled down the leg-side!

Tom Bailey gets Harry Brook on the stroke of lunch.

Ignore my earlier post about lunch being taken at 13:10 by the way - that was nonsense. They're going to lunch now.

Yorkshire have a big lead of 237.

    BOSH!

Jonny Bairstow absolutely pummels Graham Onions down the ground. The ball rockets to the boundary.

The 28-year-old is on 77 off 61 balls.

Bit silly considering they played until beyond 19:00 last night!

Lancashire just can't stop the flow of runs.

Jonny Bairstow flicks Keaton Jennings to the rope and four more come courtesy of leg byes.

Yorkshire lead by 225. This game has got away from the Red Rose county at a rate of knots.

    • Leicestershire's Ned Eckersley has gone for 74 but the Foxes lead Kent by 125 runs, finishing with 229 all out.
    • Not the best first session for Warwickshire, who are now eight wickets down, but they are still on track for a small first-innings lead Middlesex. The Bears are 229-8 in response to the hosts' 236.

Aidan Watson: Look where and against which attacks Rory Burns has scored his runs this summer. Currently completely untroubled against four internationally capped bowlers in Broad, Ball, Patel, and Gurney. Love Jennings but Burns must be selected!

He's on 133 and counting at the moment Aidan. His golden summer continues.

That's not a great shot from Moeen Ali.

The England all-rounder tries to cut one from Jamie Overton but it's too close to him. Edged. Gone.

Worcestershire are in all sorts of bother now.

And now Harry Brook joins Jonny Bairstow in the half-century club.

The 19-year-old clips a single off Keaton Jennings to get there off just 60 balls.

His innings has been every bit as good as Bairstow's.

  20. 50 for Bairstowpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 23 July 2018

    Brilliant batting from Jonny Bairstow.

The England wicketkeeper reaches his half-century off just 38 balls.

He's put Yorkshire well and truly back in the driving seat in the last hour or so.
