Nick Browne and Tom WestleyImage source, Rex Features

A single off Dom Bess carries Essex opener Nick Browne to a 93-ball half-century, and his second-wicket partnership with Tom Westley is developing nicely at Taunton. As it happens, all three fifties scored by Browne this season have come against the same opponents.

Westley has had a wretched summer so far, but he sweeps for four later in the same over to move on to 19 not out. Essex need another 239 for a fourth win of the summer.

Tongue bowls a bouncer and the batsman is forced to swerve back and leave.

  12. Brathwaite on the attack for Nottspublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Hants 277 & 399-7 dec v Notts 166 & 73-3

Brathwaite gets an edge down to third man off Dawson and runs two.

Still five men crowded around the bat - but they're redundant here as Dawson drops a bit short and the batsman crashes him through the covers for four.

Four more! This time down the ground. 10 off the over.

    Surrey 211 & 306 v Lancashire 247 & 28-0

Something has got Alex Davies' dander up, it would appear. South African Morne Morkel takes up the attack for Surrey and is flayed through the covers for four before the Lancashire opener smashes the next one in a similar direction for six.

Davies has 22 off 16 balls, with Haseeb Hameed on six, and Lancashire need another 243 to win.

Worryingly for Surrey, Jade Dernbach has left the field after bowling a single over.

  17. Yorkshire look to Williamsonpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Yorks 216 & 82-2 v Worcs 572-7 dec

Kane Williamson gets a four off Dillion Pennington but the bowler beats him outside the off stump with his next ball.

Huge pressure here at the North Marine Road ground, where the gulls are in full voice.

Two fours in succession- and then another play and miss! This is becoming quite a contest.

32 overs left in the day's play.
