  1. Davies doubles uppublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Surrey 211 & 306 v Lancashire 247 & 4-0

There are 59 overs left in the day's play at The Oval as Alex Davies and Haseeb Hameed begin Lancashire's run-chase. Sam Curran has the new ball in hand, but Davies finds the boundary twice in the opening over to give the visitors a racing start. Their target, remember, is 271.

  2. Yorkshire holding on at Scarboroughpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Yorks 216 & 66-2 v Worcs 572-7 dec

Gary Ballance steers Moeen a bit through mid wicket for four but it's not entirely convincing as the ball is airborne for a while.

Much better shot. He rocks on to the back foot and plays the ball into the same area for four more. Moeen dropping a bit short here.

Eight off the over. 290 behind.

  3. Division Two round-uppublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    • Middlesex continue to resist at Northampton with Max Holden (90*) and James Harris (41*), having added 117 for the seventh wicket. They are 283-6, 124 ahead.
    • Phil Salt continues to breeze along for Sussex against Derbyshire. He is 128 not out with his side 293 ahead on 242-1 in their second innings.
  4. Worcestershire on the attack at Scarboroughpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Yorks 216 & 58-2 v Worcs 572-7 dec

Dillon Pennington is bowling with good pace and rhythm here. Williamson looks a bit bemused as he's hit on the pad.

A bit of late movement there.

    Yorkshire hanging on for now.

  5. Worcestershire on toppublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Yorks 216 & 54-2 v Worcs 572-7 dec

Gary Ballance happy to leave Pennington outside the line of off stump to see out the 19th over.

Moeen drifts into the pads and Willionson clips him down to square leg for four.

There's a bit of commotion as an elderly man walks on to the field! OK, he's off now.

    302 behind.

WICKET Virdi (b Mennie) 0published at 16:32 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Surrey 211 & 306 v Lancashire 247

One delivery is all Lancashire need to dispose of Surrey's number 11, as Joe Mennie rearranges Amar Virdi's stumps, leaving Jade Dernbach on 24 not out. The Red Rose county need 271 with the best part of five sessions to get them in.

Will Surrey's attack bring them a seventh win of the summer, or will the Red Rose inflict a first defeat on the Division One leaders? Watch this space.....

  7. Yorkshire struggle at Scarboroughpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Yorks 216 & 45-2 v Worcs 572-7 dec

Well, that's the first over Moeen has bowled in this innings without taking a wicket. He is mortal after all.

Two off the over - one each for Williamson and Ballance.

    Dillon Pennington to bowl...

WICKET Chopra (lbw Leach) 24published at 16:27 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Somerset 324 & 202 v Essex 191 & 62-1

Did the tea interval at taunton break Varun Chopra's concentration? Only he knows the answer to that question, but Essex have lost their first wicket, with another 274 needed for victory.

Despite Jack Leach's breakthrough, the home side have put the twin-spin tactic on hold for the time being, with seamer Josh davey brought back from the other end. Tom Westley is Nick Brown'es new partner for Essex.

  9. wicket

WICKET Morkel (b Onions) 29published at 16:25 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Surrey 211 & 305-9 v Lancashire 247

That must have been so frustrating for Lancashire. They thought they'd broken the back of the Surrey batting and then Morne Morkel and Jade Dernbach came together in a 51-run partnership for the ninth wicket.

Morkel carves away a boundary to move on to 29 but loses his middle stump to the next delivery. The lead, though, is 269 as last man Amar Virdi walks out.

  10. Play resumes at Scarboroughpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Yorks 216 & 43-2 v Worcs 572-7 dec

Kane Williamson and Gary Ballance have the unenviable task of trying to rebuild the innings after Moeen Ali dismissed both openers in successive overs before tea.

And here comes Moeen again to try and snare a third victim...

  11. Interval at Southamptonpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Hants 277 & 399-7 dec v Notts 166 & 58-3 (Target 511)

Big appeal for lbw against Steven Mullaney off Dwason but the umpire says no. Just going down?

Dawson gets one to fizz just past the outside edge of Mullaney's bat.

Phew! Time for a cup of tea.

  12. Notts lose early wickets in second inningspublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Hants 277 & 399-7 dec v Notts 166 & 55-3

Fidel Edwards bowls... So nearly played on to the stumps but Steven Mullaney survives.

Not quite as much menace from the Windies quick compared to the Notts first innings, but he nearly had a gift there.

  13. Interval at Scarboroughpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Yorks 216 & 43-2 v Worcs 572-7 dec

What a dramatic session of play.

Yorkshire's openers looked fairly comfortable against the quicks most of the time but Moeen Ali has taken a starring role again, dismissing both openers in his first two overs.

He scored a few runs in Worcestershires first innings as well...

Yorkshire in all sorts of trouble - 313 runs behind.

  14. Essex lay solid foundationpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Somerset 324 & 202 v Essex 191 & 52-0

Nick Browne clipped the final ball of the afternoon session, bowled by Dom Bess, for four to complete a highly satisfactory passage of play for defending champions Essex.

Having bowled out Somerset for 202, they need another 284 to win and crucially still have all 10 wickets standing. Browne has 26 and Varun Chopra is on 22.

Wouldn't like to guess which way this will go at this stage.

  15. Notts on the ropes at Southamptonpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Hants 277 & 399-7 dec v Notts 166 & 53-3

A reminder that Dale Steyn won't be bowling because of a groin injury he picked up earlier in the game - but Hampshire are doing pretty well without him so far.

Brathwaite cuts hard to point but there's no run.

He turns the last ball safely to leg slip. No run there either.

    Maiden over.

    Sussex 440 & 216-1 v Derbyshire 389

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex commentator

A remarkable session at Hove with Sussex scoring 191 runs.

Phil Salt led the way with an explosive century off including nine fours and five huge sixes, while Luke Wells who made 78

It was Salt’s second century of the season, and provided further evidence that the 21-year-old is reaping the benefit of being regularly selected, having just a year ago been considering his future at Hove because of limited opportunities.

The Sussex lead is 269 and with a session to go today, they may even consider a late declaration.

    And another one for Moeen!

Two wickets in eight balls plus a double ton!

    He's having a useful day.

Harry Brook drives and miscues to Josh Tongue at mid on.

    Hants 277 & 399-7 dec v Notts 166 & 53-3

    Absolute disaster for Notts!

Fidel Edwards drops short and Samit Patel just can't control the pull shot. Rilee Rossouw, moments after coming back on to the field after a finger injury, takes the catch.

    Definitely some turn there.
