  1. That's all for day three in the County Championshippublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

Thanks for joining us today, on what proved to be a good day for both title rivals Surrey and Somerset in Division One.

There's lots still to play for tomorrow, so let's do it all over again in the morning, shall we? See you then. Good night.

  2. Reaction: Leaders Surrey earn big winpublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

Surrey beat Notts by an innings and 125 runs

Surrey captain Rory Burns tells BBC Radio London:

"It was a really good team performance. The bowlers bowled beautifully.

"Mark Stoneman - the way he played was awesome.

"It's going to be another big game for us next week at Chelmsford - hopefully we'll do the business there."

  3. Yorkshire 'have it all to do'published at 19:14 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Yorkshire 320 & 8-2 v Somerset 399 & 339-7d

    Isabelle Westbury
    BBC Sport

A maiden century of the 2018 season for Somerset captain Tom Abell has put a huge dent in Yorkshire’s fight to stay in Division One.

A fluent and unbeaten knock of 132 gave the visitors the liberty to declare on 339-7, 419 runs ahead with a day and a bit still to go.

Lewis Gregory, off the back of two swashbuckling half-centuries, then picked up the wickets of both openers for just four runs and Yorkshire, who overnight find themselves in a relegation spot in the table, have it all to do on the final day.

  4. Reaction: Sussex beatenpublished at 19:12 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

Middlesex beat Sussex by 55 runs

The lads work very hard in training but we gave away too many extras in this game, but at the end of the day we just didn’t score enough runs particularly having bowled Middlesex out for 169 on the first day. We are always learning and always looking to improve, we are disappointed to lose but to win four Championship games on the bounce before this was a terrific achievement, we are playing good cricket and the lads are in a pretty good place

Sussex head coach Jason Gillespie told BBC Sussex

  5. Reaction: Kent 'kept victory in sight'published at 19:10 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Close: Derbyshire 400 & 83-2 v Kent 561

After taking five wickets across two innings today, playing in his first game since June, Kent's Adam Riley tells BBC Radio Kent:

"The target of the day was to get the follow-on enforced, but we have bowled well enough to keep a victoy in sight.

"The pitch is misbehaving by keeping a bit low, so I was trying to keep it straight and get lbw in the game. It's a strange deck because the new ball wasn't spinning as much, so we persevered with the old ball for over 100 overs.

"We've had a couple of scenarios this season that have been like this, and there will be a big push that may involve batting later on. Just like today, we'll play attritional cricket and wear them down to get the wickets."

Among some eyebrow-raising selections from Kent before this game was the decision to pick spinner Adam Riley, a man who hadn’t played first-class cricket since June.

But he has been the star man in bowling Derbyshire out short of the total required to avoid the follow-on, and has taken both second-innings wickets as Kent set up a probable victory.

He’s bowled with guile, mixing up his pace and bowling consistently full. The Kent-born man has also spent half his time in this match kneeling in front of the umpire, pleading for lbw decisions or feeling frustrated by plays and misses.

In arguably dismissing Kent’s best two batsmen this evening in Billy Godleman and Wayne Madsen, he has put Kent in a position that seemed impossible when the hosts were 288-2 earlier today.

  7. Close of Play at Chelmsfordpublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Essex 435 v Hampshire 172 & 17-2 f/o

Ian Holland has no need to play the first ball, which drifts harmlessly down leg and he blocks out the rest.

And that's it. Essex will be over the moon to bundle Hampshire out for 172 and force the follow on.

A full day's play left to force a result - and that's with day one lost completely due to a wet outfield.

The day's play will also be remembered for two changes of glove man...

  10. Division Two round-uppublished at 18:43 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

Just two games left in the second division...

Derbyshire are holding on at home to Kent where they reached stumps on 83-2 on second innings, trailing by 78 runs.

Both wickets fell to spinner Adam Riley.

He bowled Billy Godleman for 26 and took a catch off his own bowling to dislodge Wayne Madsen for five.

Leicestershire are in desperate trouble against Gloucestershire at Bristol, where they closed on 117-6, still 377 runs short of their target - which was boosted by a wonderful double hundred from Chris Dent.

Mark Cosgrove is resisting on 42 not out and Craig Miles has 3-36.

    Essex 435 v Essex 172 & 13-1 f/o

Jimmy Adams just jabs down in time to keep Jamie Porter at bay.

The next ball is wider and he nudges to third man for a couple and clips one off the pads through mid-wicket for four runs.

He's nearly yorked by the last ball, which is squeezed along the ground past first slip for one more.

    Maiden over from Jamie Porter.

Huge shout from Peter Siddle, who angles one in and hits Jimmy Adams on the pads. Not out. Leg side?

He gets a thick inside edge to mid wicket next ball and runs a single.

More frustration for Siddle who spears one down the leg side for five wides.

Bowled him! Joe Weatherley is castled by Peter Siddle for a 9-ball duck.
