  4. Tea - Glamorgan trail by 156 runspublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Glamorgan 203 & 144-5 v Warwickshire 503

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

Warwickshire captain Jeetan Patel led his side’s victory bid at Colwyn Bay as he claimed his 800th first-class wicket in a lengthy afternoon spell, yielding three wickets.

Nick Selman batted 110 balls before he edged Patel to slip for 14, but Kiran Carlson and David Lloyd looked to have settled in well with a stand of 56.

Patel then induced Lloyd to drive to point for 26, and Carlson’s departure, lbw the over before tea for 49, makes a three-day finish likely.

Keith Barker took the first wicket of the afternoon as Connor Brown was bowled for 33, not playing a shot.

Warwickshire’s optimistic mood was also buoyed by news of promotion rivals Sussex’s defeat at Lord’s.

  5. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Essex 435 v Hampshire 117-8

Liam Dawson drives Ravi Bopara through the covers for a couple to move on to 11.

The fifth ball is cut in front of square for a single and now Kyle Abbott is off the mark with a push for one in the off side.

    That's tea.

Essex are firmly in charge and even with day one lost to rain they still have of time to force a result.

Still 38 overs left tonight inn an extended final session.

  6. Tea at Headingleypublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Yorkshire 320 v Somerset 399 & 183-4 (Lead by 262)

Good session for Somerset but that James Hildreth dismissal will give Yorkshire hope.

Tom Abell is still there on 64 and with 32 overs left might we have a declaration with about ten of them left tonight?

  7. wicket

WICKET Vince c Harmer b Bopara 26published at 15:57 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Essex 435 v Hampshire 110-8

Hampshire are nearly down and out here.

Kyle Abbott and Liam Dawson can bat but don't count on too many from Fidel Edwards.

Ravi Bopara bowls a very full ball which James Vince miscues on the drive and edges at head height to Simon Harmer slip.

  8. Abell attackspublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Yorkshire 320 v Somerset 399 & 178-4 (Lead by 256)

Shot! Abell carves Lyth off the back foot for four to move on to 56. Crucial for Somerset he stays there to take the target past 300.

And again! Another deft cut through backward point for four that would make even the most battle hardened purist purr.

Ah, a bit ungainly as he ends the over with a sharp single and lands on his backside at the non-striker's end.

  9. Tea at Southportpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Lancashire 161 & 217-6 v Worcestershire 222 & 252

  11. wicket

WICKET Berg c Browne b Bopara 3published at 15:45 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Essex 435 v Hampshire 99-7

No! What a way to go!

Ravi Bopara bowls a full toss and Gareth Berg hits it straight to Nick Browne at mid wicket.

    Captain, this ship is sinking.

  12. Hampshire struggle at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Essex 435 v Hampshire 99-6

James Vince is still there on 25 but he desperately needs support at the other end.

Vince gets a rare freebie from Bopara and drives through the off side for four. He picks up a single off the fifth and Gareth Berg sees out the over.

  13. wicket

WICKET Hildreth c Hodd b Lyth 72published at 15:41 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Yorkshire 320 v Somerset 399 & 164-4 (Lead by 243)

    Gone! Huge wicket for Yorkshire!

Adam Lyth comes into the attack... James Hildreth tries to hit against the spin and edges behind.

Wonderful knock even so - and that stand was worth a very useful 135 runs.

  14. White Rose frustrated by Hildreth and Abellpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Yorkshire 320 v Somerset 399 & 164-3 (lead by 243)

Somerset are building up a really good lead now. Would 300 be enough?

James Hildreth drives Shaw but can't get it past David Willey at mid off.

The bowler drops short and Hildreth's pull shot is picked up on the bounce at mid-wicket.

The last ball is driven to mid off for one.

  15. 50 runs

That's his 6th 50 in this summer's Championship to date.

His best this year is 99, but we'll park that for now.

    95 balls and four fours.

  16. 200 runs

Lancashire pass 200published at 15:31 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Lancashire 161 & 203-6 v Worcestershire 222 & 252

Dane Vilas' ninth boundary brings up 200 for Lancashire in their second innings and they need just 111 more to win now.

This partnership is a huge one at Southport.

  17. Could there be a result after all?published at 15:27 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Derbyshire 382-9 v Kent 561

Adam Riley’s three wickets have made it interesting at Derby

There are distinct whiffs emanating from the County Ground in Derby that signal a result is possible here.

Derbyshire were going along nicely at 288-2, but the spin of Adam Riley (3-78) and Joe Denly (1-77), with a cameo from paceman Grant Stewart (1-24), reduced the hosts to 345-7, still a way off the total required to avoid the follow on.

Could we see a quick mop up of the Derbyshire tail, a quick Kent whack this evening, followed by Kent sticking in Derbyshire again on a tough final day?

  18. wicket

WICKET Rossouw c Browne b Harmer 12published at 15:26 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Essex 435 v Hampshire 90-6

Not a great shot from Rilee Rossouw ...or a great ball from Simon Harmer - who drops short and the batsman pulls it straight down the throat of Nick Brown on the on side.

The batsman stares up at the heavens in horror.

Horrid way to get out and Hampshire are 345 behind.

  20. Hildreth keeps White Rose at baypublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

James Hildreth looking rock-solid here as he strokes Willey through the covers for his 11th four and switches to calm defending as the bowler tightens his line.

Willey over-pitches and Hildreth drives to cover but there's no run.
