    Surrey 125-3, Worcestershire 336

If that is the long-term benefit, in the short term, it might also help steer Surrey to their immediate target of 400 inside 110 overs - and the fifth batting bonus point that would seal a first county title since 2002.

    Notts 177 & 67-0 v Essex 233

Ravi Bopara serves Kraigg Brathwaite a full toss which is duly tucked away for four.

His first over goes for eight and Notts are 67-0 in the sun at Trent Bridge.

They've got a lead of 11 over Essex, with both Brathwaite and Ben Slater in the thirties.

  3. Four maidens in a row in Leedspublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 11 September 2018

    Yorkshire 209 & 53-3, Lancashire 252

Yorkshire end a long run of dot balls following a run of four successive maidens, shared between Richard Gleeson and Keshav Maharaj.

Gary Ballance and Tom Kohler-Cadmore have so far put on 28. This is good, sensible batting. Just the sort of thing you expect to see in a Roses match.

    Notts 177 & 56-0 v Essex 233

Notts have wiped out their first-innings arrears without losing a wicket at Trent Bridge.

They're 56-0 with openers Kraigg Brathwaite (26*) and Ben Slater (29*) at the crease.

Essex's Matt Coles appeals for LBW on Slater but it strikes him well up his thigh pad and is too high.

  5. Division Two round-uppublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 11 September 2018

Sam Hain is heading towards a half-century with leaders Warwickshire on 296-5 and close to earning a third batting point against Leicestershire.

Durham are favourites against third-placed Sussex. Cameron Steel is 65 not out, with Durham 133-2 and leading by 114 runs. Sussex could be set a large target to chase at Chester-le-Street.

Jack Taylor (77*) and Ben Charlesworth (51*) are dominating for Gloucestershire, who are 250-6 in their first innings against Glamorgan in Cardiff with a lead of 112 runs. They've added 109 runs for the seventh wicket.

Only 29 overs of play were possible on day two for Northamptonshire and Derbyshire at Wantage Road.

Alex Hughes took his overnight score of 38 on to 74, as the visitors moved on from 6-2 to 118-4. The only wicket to go was opener Tom Lace for 38.

    Yorkshire 209 & 53-3 v Lancashire 252

After the loss of those first three early wickets, Yorkshire are going a bit more smoothly now that first-innings centurion Tom Kohler-Cadmore has come in.

He has so far put on 26 with Gary Ballance. TKC has 13 of them.

And Yorkshire now lead again by 10 runs.

26 overs left in the day.

England's Ollie Pope is gone, just two short of a half-century, caught behind for 48.

Pope had a life, being dropped at slip by Daryl Mitchell before he had scored, but he had batted well since, hitting 10 boundaries.

It's a third wicket for South African Wayne Parnell, ending Pope's 97-run stand with Rory Burns, who remains, also on 48.

    Notts 177 & 25-0 v Essex 233

Notts lost Kraigg Brathwaite with the second ball of their first innings, but the hosts have started much better this time.

They're 25-0 - trailing Essex by 31 runs - with West Indies batsman Brathwaite on 10 and fellow opener Ben Slater on 15.

    Kent 1-0, target 156

    Matt Cole
    Sports Editor, BBC Radio Kent

Kent must be optimistic of victory having bowled Middlesex out for 186 in their second innings, setting up a winning target of 156, but it still won’t be easy in a low-scoring contest.

The hosts started well with Sam Robson and Nick Gubbins putting on an opening partnership of 59, despite batting in gloomy conditions with floodlight assistance on the second morning. Then came a flurry of wickets though, Middlesex slumping from 101-2 to 117-6, Harry Podmore getting the ball to move and lift outside the off stump, taking three of those to go - once again no Middlesex batsman making 50

Despite threatening to extend their total to 200 and beyond, Middlesex were pegged back by regular dismissals under cloudy skies, the prolific Matt Henry finishing the innings off – his 4-40 taking him to 66 wickets for the season in the County Championship.

And as he trapped last Steve Finn lbw, the sun finally broke through the clouds. An omen perhaps?

    Glamorgan 137 v Gloucestershire 221-6

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

The visitors have run up a useful lead of 84 runs in the afternoon session after play eventually got under way in Cardiff at 13:25 BST.

Jack Taylor has played an unusually restrained innings of 61 not out while 17-year-old Ben Charlesworth is on 39, following his knock of 77* against Middlesex.

Glamorgan’s only success came early on when Michael Hogan bowled Ryan Higgins for 18, but hopes of minimising the first innings lead have faded as Gloucestershire ground onwards.

  12. Close of play at Northamptonpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 11 September 2018

    Northants 255, Derbyshire 118-4

As expected, play is abandoned on day two after too much rain at Wantage Road.

Only 29 overs of play possible in the day, during which Alex Hughes took his overnight score of 38 on to 74, as the visitors moved on from 6-2 to 118-4.

The only wicket to go was opener Tom Lace for 38.

Hampshire take 19 points and Somerset take three.

It was a bit nervy but Hampshire are up to third in the table, while Somerset's faint title hopes have all but evaporated.

Leaders Surrey already have three bowling points, so five more points will see them crowned champions.

Yorkshire reach the tea interval without losing any further wickets.

Gary Ballance is on 4, Harry Brook on 3.

Tom Bailey and Graham Onions have bowled unchanged for 12 overs. What will a cup of Yorkshire tea do for them?

The Tykes still trail by 18 runs. The post-interval session could prove key in this Roses match.

  19. Postpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 11 September 2018

    Hampshire 66-4, target 75

They won't be taking tea in Southampton, with a result seemingly imminent. The umpires have used their discretion.

James Adams hits a four from Ben Green's first ball and Hampshire need just nine more runs to finish this.

  20. 50 partnership for Pope and Burnspublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 11 September 2018

    Surrey 65-2, Worcestershire 336

Ollie Pope (32) and Rory Burns (28) are going well for Surrey against Worcestershire at New Road. Their partnership has now reached 60.

Pope was dropped before he had got off the mark. That may yet prove costly.
