Hampshire bring Kyle Abbott back into the bowling attack, which seems a good time to bring you this nugget courtesy of my trusty colleague.

Since the T20 Blast finished, these are Abbott's figures in four matches...

    • 2-30, 4-36 v Notts
    • 5-90 v Essex
    • 2-29, 6-39 v Worcestershire

    Hampshire 148 v Somerset 106 & 52-4

Somerset pass the 50 mark in their second innings, with Marcus Trescothick (17 from 60) digging in to allow Steve Davies (19 from 25) to get some runs.

The Ageas Bowl wicket is perhaps getting slightly easier to bat on, but not much.

The visitors have a lead of 12 runs, with six wickets in hand.

  3. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 11 September 2018

Wickets are still tumbling with great regularity where there is cricket being played in Division Two.

At Chester-le-Street, Durham began the day on 92-7, only to then rapidly be polished off for 103 by Sussex, Ollie Robinson taking 5-29.

But Chris Rushworth then took three wickets as Sussex were reduced to 56-4, having at one stage been 29-3.

At Lord's, Middlesex are making a better fist of it in their second innings. After taking the final Kent wicket to bowl out the visitors for 192, they trailed by 31 on first innings. But they then put on 59 for the first wicket before the loss of Sam Robson for 39.

Derbyshire have moved on to 112-3 against Northants at Wantage Road.

Replying to the hosts' first innings 255, Alex Hughes has gone past his half-century to reach 69 not out.

No play before lunch at Grace Road or Sophia Gardens in the Leicestershire-Warwickshire and Glamorgan-Gloucestershire games because of rain.

An inspection is due in Cardiff at 12.30.

With the weather forecast to improve, it is hoped play may be possible at Grace Road from mid-afternoon.

    Hampshire 148 v Somerset 106 & 46-4

Kyle Abbott is enjoying a break from bowling for Hampshire, having taken all four wickets so far.

Marcus Trescothick and Steve Davies have taken Somerset to 46-4 and they now have a lead of four runs.

Are Ian Holland and Fidel Edwards making them play enough? We've gone 40 minutes without a wicket...

    Livingstone b Brooks 7 (Lancashire 153-3 v Yorkshire)

Liam Livingstone is gone. Jack Brooks uproots his off stump to claim a second wicket.

Luckily for Gary Ballance, that dropped catch three overs back does not prove too expensive - other than the fact that he has left the pitch to get treatment.

Gary Ballance stepped down but has missed the last three matches with a broken finger

  6. No play before lunch at Leicesterpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 11 September 2018

    Leicestershire 100, Warwickshire 190-3

It's official now, says BBC WM's Mike Taylor.

    No play before lunch.

"No change to the official lunch timing," he reports. "Still raining, lightly but steadily."

  7. dropped catch

    Yorkshire 209 v Lancashire 152-2

Liam Livingstone is badly put down at midwicket by Gary Ballance.

Captain Steven Patterson is the unlucky bowler.

Livingstone had only made 6. And it was a simple chance. Ballance, the man who preceded Patterson as Yorkshire captain, looks extremely apologetic.

    Worcestershire 288-6 v Surrey

No play so far today on day two for County Championship leaders Surrey against Worcestershire at New Road, following heavy morning rain.

Umpires Neil Mallender and Michael Burns have now decided that lunch will be taken at 12 noon, with the hope of play getting underway at 12.40.

Simon Hancock: Reference the Southampton pitch. Take a look at Alsop getting out to Jamie Overton yesterday. It moved sideways like a Shane Warne leg spin delivery. Impossible to play against.

Dave Wood: Are Hampshire & Somerset about to break the record for the shortest 4 innings game here?!!

We'll see if we can find out, Dave...

    Hampshire 148 v Somerset 106 & 26-4

Somerset will be hoping the experience and class of Marcus Trescothick will be match-defining here.

    They're 26-4 - 16 runs behind Hampshire's first-innings total - but the 42-year-old ex-England man is still there on six.

If Somerset can give the hosts a target of more than 100 it would no doubt make them anxious.

    Croft c Lyth b Brooks 11 (Lancashire 145-2 v Yorkshire)

Steven Croft goes for a widish one from Jack Brooks and cuts straight to Adam Lyth who hangs on with the help of his midriff at second slip.

His stand of 40 with Alex Davies (78) is over. Maybe not the best shot in the circumstances.

Lancs captain Liam Livingstone comes to the crease. And he gets straight off the mark first ball with a four.

    Somerset 106 and 24-4 v Hampshire 148

    Kevan James
Former Hampshire all-rounder, BBC Radio Solent

19 wickets fell yesterday - and it looks as though things are carrying on in the same vain this morning. Five, in the first 40 minutes of play!

Whats going on? It never happens like this at the Ageas Bowl.

One theory is that the current batch of Duke balls, used around the country, are not helping the batsmen. Too much swing and seam.

True the wicket looked green to start with, but nothing that hasn’t been seen here before.

  13. Postpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 11 September 2018

    Hampshire 148 v Somerset 106 & 24-4

Before another wicket falls in Southampton I'd better try to sum everything up.

Hampshire's Kyle Abbott has match figures of 9-51 to leave second-placed Somerset 18 runs behind with only six wickets remaining.

Steve Davies has joined opener Marcus Trescothick at the crease - could this match end on day two?

Abell b Abbott 2 (Somerset 20-4 trail Hampshire by 22 runs)

Kyle Abbott has figures of 4-16 already. Tom Abell is bowled.

The ball gets past Abell's off-side edge and clatters his middle and off stump.

He goes for two and Somerset are 20-4, trailing Hampshire by 22 runs.

That's five wickets in the first 50 minutes to add to the 19 yesterday, and Somerset's faint title hopes look all but over.

  15. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 11 September 2018

No play at Grace Road or Sophia Gardens in the Leicestershire-Warwickshire and Glamorgan-Gloucestershire games because of rain, but here's the latest in the other three matches . . .

Durham started day two 92-7 but have been polished off by Sussex for 103 at Chester-le-Street, Ollie Robinson taking 5-29. Sussex are 8-1 in reply.

At Lord's, Middlesex are into their second innings after finishing off Kent for 192. The hosts are 21-0, trailing Kent by 10 runs.

Derbyshire have added 31 runs in the first 45 minutes against Northants at Wantage Road. They're 91-2 in reply to the hosts' first innings 255. Alex Hughes has reached his half-century.

  16. Lancs rally after early wicketpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 11 September 2018

    Yorkshire 209 v Lancashire 124-1

Following the shock of losing Karl Brown to the first ball of the day, Alex Davies (67) and Steven Croft (9) have so far put on 19 runs for the second wicket as they set about chasing down Yorkshire's first innings 209.

Brown's dismissal ended his 105-run stand with Davies.

A BBC Radio Lancashire listener has emailed in to report that it was Lancashire's first century stand by an opening pair in a first innings of a Championship match in over four years - since Paul Horton and Luis Reece shared 138 against Durham at Old Trafford in August 2014.

  17. rain stops play

No play before lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 11 September 2018

    Notts 177 v Essex 133-5

Rain is still falling in Nottingham and play won't start until 12:40 BST at the earliest.

They'll take an early lunch at noon.

Hildreth lbw Abbott 4 (Somerset 12-3 trail Somerset by 30 runs)

James Hildreth lasts two balls and Kyle Abbott has a third wicket already!

Azhar Ali survived a similar LBW call just now but Hildreth isn't as lucky. He scored a four with his first ball but that's as good as it gets.

Tom Abell joins Marcus Trescothick - Somerset now 12-3 and still trailing Hampshire's first-innings total by 30 runs.

Azhar c Alsop b Abbott 7 (Somerset 8-2 trail Hampshire by 34 runs)

Kyle Abbott seems unplayable and Somerset are in deep water.

He has a strong LBW appeal on Azhar Ali turned down, but the following ball he has the Pakistan batsman caught behind.

It's a wicked swinging delivery and Abbott's seventh wicket of the match - Somerset 8-2, trailing by 34 and James Hildreth is in.

Azhar Ali comes in for Somerset and gets them off the mark.

He's alongside Marcus Trescothick - who is yet to score - and the visitors are 4-1, trailing by 38.
