Rikki Clarke swats a legside boundary off Ed Barnard to bring up the 250. Seven off the over. 22 more needed.

    Or four wickets?

Or even a tie? That would do it!

Can anyone remember the last one in County Championship cricket?

    Not even a week ago!

  2. Maiden for Ed Barnardpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

    Worcs 336 & 203, Surrey 268 & 240-6

Ed Barnard keeps up the pressure with a timely maiden.

If Worcestershire are to get relegated again, these young Pears are showing that they are not going to go down without a fight.

    Pope b Pennington 49 (Surrey 240-6)

    Ollie PopeImage source, Rex Features

Ollie Pope gets a grubber. The ball keeps low on him and Dillon Pennington has another wicket.

It's revenge for Pennington, who had been carted for two boundaries earlier in the over.

Tom Curran is on his way, with 32 still needed. Or four more wickets for the Pears.

    This is getting fraught.

    Jacks c Westbury b Pennington 12 (Surrey 228-5)

    Will JacksImage source, Rex Features

Will Jacks goes with 44 still needed.

Worcestershire debutant Ollie Westbury takes the catch to earn young paceman Dillon Pennington a second wicket of the innings - and his fourth of the match.

Rikki Clarke arrives in the middle. The old head.

Will the man they call 'The Safety Valve' get the job done?

He's won a title here at New Road before, don't forget. But the champagne - or will it be Pear cider - remains on ice.

  5. Rikki Clarke's Championship double?published at 14:05 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

Not too many cricketers win two County Championship winner's medals.

Even fewer have done it with two different counties.

And, of those, it's hard to imagine that anyone has ever done it before on the same ground.

But that is what veteran Rikki Clarke looks set to do today at Worcester - with less than 50 runs needed now.

It was at New Road where Clarke helped Warwickshire win the title in 2012. And now he's about to do it again. Even better, he's next man in.

Eyebrows were raised when, shortly before his 36th birthday, Clarke returned south from Birmingham to re-sign for Surrey, where he had started his career.

But nobody is now doubting Surrey's decision to bring back the twice-capped England Test player and 20-times one-day international.

Clarke made 826 runs in 16 matches and took 26 wickets in helping the Bears win the title in 2012.

This time round, his efforts in 12 matches have been a bit more balanced to success with the ball - 425 runs and 43 wickets.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

    Foakes c Whiteley b Parnell 22 (Surrey 210-4)

Ben Foakes has gone. He gets a top edge off Wayne Parnell and Ross Whiteley, Worcestershire's best fielder, is thankfully the man under it.

He was fielding at leg gully and makes a lot of ground back towards the boundary to catch the ball coming over his shoulder.

62 still needed as Will Jacks comes to the crease.

  7. 50 partnership for Pope and Foakespublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

    Worcs 336 & 203, Surrey 268 & 210-3

Ollie Pope hits a four to bring up the 50 partnership with Ben Foakes.

He moves on to 35. Foakes is on 22.

    62 still required.

  8. Mullaney credits Vijay 'masterclass'published at 13:46 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

Essex beat Notts by eight wickets

    Murali VijayImage source, Rex Features

Centuries from debutant Murali Vijay and Tom Westley guided Essex to an eight-wicket win over Nottinghamshire.

The defending champions chased 282 at Trent Bridge to all but guarantee their Division One status for next season.

"Credit to Essex, I thought Simon Harmer bowled magnificently well," said Notts captain Steven Mullaney.

"We thought the seam would be the threat and we kept that out to an extent - and then Murali Vijay put on a masterclass of batting."

Essex skipper Ryan ten Doeschate added: “To chase a big target like that is a very rewarding result and critical at this time of the season from the position in the table we’ve found ourselves in."

The run rate had slowed a little, helped by Wayne Parnell's return to the attack. But Ben Foakes then pulls him to the legside boundary for four.

    79 needed now.

Still no news on Bradders' lunch. But Tunagate rumbles on . . .

Ollie Pope and Ben Foakes have clearly lunched well at Worcester and have started nicely. Only 87 more needed now

Not so fortunate is BBC Hereford & Worcester's Dave Bradley.

    Someone has eaten his lunch.

He had set aside a Tuna salad while involved in an on-air lunchtime cricket discussion - but his hopes of tucking into it now have been scuppered.

BBC Radio London's Mark Church is leading the investigation.

50 for Wayne Madsenpublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

    Derbyshire 94-1, target 233

Wayne Madsen has his half-century for Derbyshire, who are 94-1 at Wantage Road and need 139 more runs for victory.

Tom Lace is also set on 39 alongside him and Northants will need something special to avoid defeat.

The players return to the field at New Road.

Will this be the session in which Surrey win the 2018 county title?

100 runs needed? Or seven Worcestershire wickets?

    Will there be a twist?

When Worcestershire last beat Surrey here at New Road in 2014, the visitors also needed 100 to win that day too - with seven wickets left. Surely not?

  13. Scores at lunchpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

  14. Gale not counting any chickenspublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

    Yorkshire 209 & 272 beat Lancashire 252 & 134 by 95 runs

Assuming that bottom club Worcestershire lose to Surrey, Yorkshire may now need just 18 points from their final two County Championship games to be sure of staying in Division One next season.

But, after seeing his side win the Roses match for the second time this season, coach Andrew Gale is taking nothing for granted ahead of next week's final home game against Hampshire - and then the trip to Worcester in the final week.

Yorkshire coach Andrew GaleImage source, Getty Images

"We're not counting our chickens yet," he told BBC Radio Leeds. "There's no easy games. Hampshire will be tough. They've won a few games now.

“We’ve got a bit of confidence that hasn’t always been there this year, and we’ve got to jump on the back of that and finish strongly.

“We showed character, togetherness, team spirit and belief to fight back in the fashion we did. To win by 95 was a fantastic effort. If we keep that up for the rest of the season, results will look after themselves."

  15. Lunch at Wantage Roadpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

    Derbyshire 85-1, target 233

Away from Worcestershire v Surrey there's one match still going in Division Two, where Derbyshire are now favourites to beat Northants.

Opener Tom Lace (36*) and Wayne Madsen (42*) have taken them to 85-1, needing a further 148 runs to win at Wantage Road.

They've been a bit fortunate at times against the new ball, but have earned their luck.

Surrey go to lunch on 173-3, with just 100 more needed to seal their first county title in 16 years.

Three key wickets have gone down before lunch in the morning session, openers Rory Burns and Mark Stoneman and South African Dean Elgar, all of them bowled.

They remain big favourites to get this wrapped up, with Ollie Pope on 14 and Ben Foakes on 7.

Seven more wickets for Worcestershire would please the locals a lot more though.

Tom Westley ends it with another boundary and Essex reach their target of 282 with eight wickets in hand to beat Notts.

He and Murali Vijay each scored centuries to make things very comfortable in a match where Notts had been on top.

Essex safe from relegation and up to third with their 20 points here, while Notts are slumping but surely don't need to worry about going down.

Possibly not the most flowing innings but Tom Westley has shown patience and resilience in abundance to reach three figures in 193 balls.

His 17th boundary, through the covers, takes him to 101 and Essex are 17 runs from victory.

Westley and Dan Lawrence are scoring quickly so I reckon this'll be over before lunch.
