Derbyshire will chase 233 to win at Wantage Road after getting Northants' final two wickets in the first over of the day.

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 10:42 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

    Maharaj b Brooks 18 (Lancs 122-8)

First wicket of the day for Headingley as Keshav Maharaj is out.

Jack Brooks uproots his leg stump.

Maharaj had come in intent on playing his shots and going for it, but there was only one way that was going to end if he got a straight one. And, after one big LBW shout, two balls later, Brooks had his man.

An eighth wicket of the match for the Somerset-bound Headband Warrior.

Yorkshire might miss him next season.

50 for Tom Westleypublished at 10:36 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

    Tom WestleyImage source, Rex Features

Tom Westley was on 45 at close last night and has added a boundary and then a single to take him to his half-century.

Essex are 153-1 at Trent Bridge, needing 129 to win, with debutant Murali Vijay at the other end on 74.

Notts need something to happen soon if they are to win this one.

  4. Bright start by Red Rosepublished at 10:36 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

    Yorkshire 209 & 272, Lancashire 252 & 122-7

Two fours already at Headingley for Lancashire's Keshav Maharaj in the Roses match.

Five runs off Ben Coad's first over - and another boundary off Jack Brooks' first ball.

    But 108 runs still required.

It looks like the Lancashire tailenders - Maharaj in particular - are going for their shots.

  8. We should get resultspublished at 10:25 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

It's a bit fresh out there this morning but most importantly it should stay dry for most of England and Wales.

With all our remaining five matches either in - or approaching - the final innings, we shouldn't be left with any draws at the end of the day.

  9. Meanwhile, down in Division Two . . .published at 10:22 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

There are just two games still going in Division Two - both with ramifications at the wrong end of the table.

They involve the four sides now occupying the bottom four places, the table having been updated following that fine win for Paul Collingwood's Durham over promotion hopefuls Sussex yesterday.

But there may not be much of the match left at Sophia Gardens.

Bottom club Glamorgan, who began this week 30 points adrift of ninth-placed Northamptonshire, lead Gloucestershire by just 18 runs with only last pair Timm van der Gugten and Michael Hogan left.

And Van der Gugten has already over achieved. It was only his unbeaten 58 yesterday, in a 73-run ninth-wicket stand with Kieran Bull, which took the game into a fourth day. Can Van der Gugten and Hogan add to their 12-run partnership?

As for Northants, they resume on 198-8 against Derbyshire looking to add to their 231-run lead.

  10. Collingwood to retire at end of seasonpublished at 10:20 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

Durham's former England captain Paul Collingwood is to retire at the end of the season, 22 years after making his first-class debut.

The 42-year-old all-rounder became the first England skipper to win a global tournament when he led the team to victory at the ICC World T20 in 2010.

He played in 68 Tests, 197 one-day internationals and 36 Twenty20s, and his final game will be at home to Middlesex, starting on 24 September.

  11. Roses match all but decidedpublished at 10:18 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

There are two other games going in Division One.

Essex need 135 runs to win to beat Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, while Lancashire need slightly less - 121 - to beat Yorkshire in the Roses match at Headingley.

The difference is that Essex have nine wickets in hand.

Lancashire have just three, after falling apart - not for the first time this season - to a fired-up Yorkshire at Headingley.

Their expected defeat today would turn the tables in the relegation stakes, plunge the Red Rose back into the bottom two, 14 points adrift of the White Rose. And with just one game left too, as Lancashire don't play next week.

  12. Good morning and welcomepublished at 10:15 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

This is the day when the outcome of the 2018 County Championship title should be decided.

Division One leaders Surrey will resume at Worcester at 10.30 this morning on 70-0, chasing 272 to win - on the back of Morne Morkel's amazing five-wicket burst yesterday.

If they do pick up their ninth straight win - and their 10th in 12 Championship games this season - then they will be crowned county champions for the first time in 16 years.

Bottom club Worcestershire, desperately needing points to stay up, will hope that they can still have a say in it at New Road, especially as they are the only side Surrey have not yet beaten in the Championship this season, Kevin Sharp's men having drawn at The Oval back in May.

They bowled out Surrey in the first innings for just 268. But, so far, the Pears have not bowled as well second time around. And Surrey skipper Rory Burns, who stood almost alone with his first-innings century, has this time had better support from opening partner Mark Stoneman.
