WICKETpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

    Elgar b Tongue 21 (Surrey 157-3)

Another one goes at New Road.

Another one clean bowled. This time by Josh Tongue.

Dean Elgar is out for 21. And 115 runs are still needed.

After the breakthough from South African Wayne Parnell, Worcestershire's young seamers Dillon Pennington and Tongue have each made an impact.

New man in is Ben Foakes, presumably feeling better now after batting number nine in the first innings, as he was feeling ill.

    Essex 248-2, target 282

Just 23 more runs needed for Essex at Trent Bridge.

Enough for Tom Westley to go on and make a century - he's 89 not out, his highest championship score of the season.

He's alongside Dan Lawrence (16), with the score 249-2

Craig Hester: 16nb 6w - this would suggest a poor bowling display from Notts.

Good point, Craig. Another reason why it would seem a miraculous Notts comeback seems unlikely at best. Essex need 46 to win.

  4. wicket

    Burns b Pennington 66 (Surrey 135-2)

Surrey are almost halfway to their 272-run target at New Road - and suddenly captain Rory Burns is gone.

Dillon Pennington, Worcestershire's latest in a long line of recruits from neighbouring Shropshire, bowls Burns off his pads.

No second century in the match for Burns. And now a slight doubt creeps in as to whether they will want the title today.

Worcestershire's Division survival hopes get a fillip too. But it's two more Test players at the crease now, South African's Dean Elgar and England Ollie Pope. 137 still needed

    Vijay b Patel 100 (Essex 221-2, target 282)

Eight balls later Murali Vijay is bowled. Essex 221-2, needing 61 more.

The India batsman gets his off-stump flattened by Samit Patel - there's perhaps an inside edge in there too.

Too little too late for Notts? Probably. Dan Lawrence joins Tom Westley and if another comes soon perhaps we can get excited.

Murali Vijay becomes the first Essex debutant to score a century since Hashim Amla in 2009.

It comes from 173 balls and includes 15 fours.

Essex are 217-1 at Trent Bridge - Tom Westley on 79 - needing another 65 runs to beat Notts.

  7. Who's going down?published at 11:35 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

    Yorkshire 209 & 272 beat Lancashire 252 & 134 by 95 runs

So where exactly does this second Roses match defeat of 2018 leave Lancashire?

They now have just one game left as they don't play in next week's round of County Championship fixtures.

Depending on how the Surrey-Worcestershire and Essex-Nottinghamshire games turn out today, by the time Lancs play again, at Southampton against Hampshire on Monday week (24 September), their fate may already be sealed.

Yorkshire skipper Steve Patterson's return after three games out with injury proved crucial for the Tykes

But it could be that Yorkshire need as little as 18 points from their remaining two games to secure top flight cricket for next season.

Yorkshire already ruled the roost in the Roses match. This was their eighth successive game in which they have not lost to their old rivals - five of which they have won.

But this year the two victories for Steve Patterson's side may well prove the difference between staying in Division One and going down.

  8. GLOUCESTERSHIRE BEAT GLAMORGAN BY NINE WICKETSpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 13 September 2018
    Breaking

    Glamorgan 137 & 247 v Gloucestershire 353 & 35-1

Gloucestershire have their fourth win of the season, while it's six defeats in a row for Glamorgan.

The visitors lost Miles Hammond in the first over of their run-chase, but captain Chris Dent (25*) and James Bracey (10*) have guided Gloucestershire to a comfortable nine-wicket victory at Sophia Gardens.

Eight match wickets for the departing Craig Miles and 111 in the first innings from Jack Taylor were the pivotal contributions.

Nigel Buck: Looking at the limited options available l wonder if Burns and Stoneman might be the opening pair for England this winter?

Chris Rawes: Two guys playing today that may be on England tours. Burns, who must surely go, and Coad at Yorkshire. 39 wickets in 7 matches at 16 apiece.

A breakthrough finally for Worcestershire at New Road.

Mark Stoneman has his off stump removed by Wayne Parnell for 59.

Skipper Rory Burns still there on 50 - to follow his first innings century.

  11. Essex need 100 to winpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

    Essex 182-1, target 282

There's an air of inevitability at Trent Bridge now, with Murali Vijay and Tom Westley easing Essex towards the victory mark.

India batsman Vijay on 89 with Westley 62 not out.

Wickets are desperately needed and they simply don't look like coming.

  12. YORKSHIRE BEAT LANCASHIRE BY 95 RUNSpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 13 September 2018
    Breaking

    Yorkshire 209 & 272 v Lancashire 252 & 134

Josh Bohannon is last man out. Ben Coad gets his fifth wicket.

And the Roses match is all over at Headingley.

It's probably all over for Lancashire's hopes of staying up this season.

They now drop back below Yorkshire in the table - 14 points adrift of their Roses rivals.

    Onions b Brooks 4 (Lancs 134-9)

Almost all over at Headingley as Jack Brooks strikes again.

Graham Onions goes, the fifth Lancashire batsman to have his stumps rearranged in this innings.

  14. Derbys and Glos lose early wicketspublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

    Division Two round-up

Gloucestershire have lost a wicket in the first over of their run-chase against bottom side Glamorgan.

Miles Hammond has gone lbw to Timm van der Gugten for a duck, leaving them 1-1 chasing 35 to win.

Of more concern is the wicket lost by Derbyshire - skipper Billy Godleman has been bowled by in-form Northants seamer Ben Sanderson for 0.

Derbyshire are 18-1 and need 215 more runs for victory.

  15. Target under 100 for Lancs nowpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 13 September 2018

    Yorkshire 209 & 272, Lancashire 252 & 134-8

96 more runs needed for Lancashire in the Roses match.

Two more wickets needed for Yorkshire. That still seems like the more likely of the two propositions.

Josh Bohannon has moved on to 13 in his first Roses match. He has the vast experience of Graham Onions with him at the other end.

Matthew Taylor has completed his five-for by removing Michael Hogan and Gloucestershire need a paltry 35 runs in their second innings to beat Glamorgan.

The Welsh county have been bowled out for 247 at Sophia Gardens.
