  1. Close of play at Hovepublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 308-2

Sussex are in no hurry to complete this over as the clock hovers close to half-past five.

Jonathan Trott nudges David Wiese down to fine leg for one... and we're getting a slow hand clap from crowd now.

Bell leaves the ball outside the off stump - and that'll do for today.

Great day for Warwickshire, who are well on the way to finishing first in the division - and a great day for Ian Bell, who has reached his fifth Championship ton of the summer and 1000 first class runs in the season.

He resumes tomorrow on 108 not out.

Good support from Jonathan Trott, who's unbeaten on 86.

Sussex promotion hopes look to be fading fast and Tom Haines is unlikely to take any further part after injuring his ankle.

    Glamorgan 186 v Kent 79-1

It's overpitched by Craig Meschede and Zak Crawley drives for his ninth boundary and reaches a 62-ball fifty, his fourth of the season. Joe Denly collects two fours in the next over from Ruaidhri Smith to move on to 27 not out, and bring up a half-century partnership. His side are going to be pretty happy with their day's work when play ends in six overs time.

  3. wicket

WICKET Adams (c Brook b Brooks) 0published at 17:25 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks 184 v Hants 33-3

Well, 184 looks like a more than useful total.

Jimmy Adams aims a drive through the off side and edges Jack Brooks to Harry Brooks in the slips.

Could this be a two-day game?

Sam Northeast is the new batsman.

  4. Surrey on top at Tauntonpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Surrey 351-4 v Somerset

Ben Foakes finds the boundary off Josh Davey and Surrey's score passes 350, bringing them their fourth batting point. Consistent batting, rather than one major innings, has been the foundation of their total so far, but with Dean Elgar well set on 63, that major innings could arrive tomorrow.

  5. 100 runs

100 for Ian Bellpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 303-2

Ian Bell forces Chris Jordan through point... Four runs!

There it is! That's five Championship hundreds for Bell this season.

He got there off 229 balls with ten fours and one six.

Four more through point takes Bell to 1000 Championship runs for 2018, the 200 partnership and brings up the 300.

Not a bad day for Warwickshire.

  10. Bell nearing 100published at 17:12 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 288-2

Bell drives hard at David Wiese, who stops the ball in its tracks with his studs. Are we changing the ball?

No, the umpires are happy with it.

Bell steers Wiese to third man to move to 97.

  11. wicket

    WICKET Pope (c J Overton b Davey) 44published at 17:10 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Surrey 345-4 v Somerset

    Ollie PopeImage source, Getty Images

Ollie Pope is not best pleased with himself as he clips a leg-stump half-volley straight to mid-wicket, giving Josh Davey his first success of the game. A real shame, because the opportunity was there for the young England batsman to make a really big score.

His dismissal ends a partnership of 82 with Dean Elgar, who is 60 not out as Ben Foakes comes out to join him with 10 and a bit overs left in the day.

  12. Bell and Trott rock solid at Hovepublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 286-2

Chris Jordan replaces Robinson at the Cromwell End.

It's pretty gloomy here so the floodlights are on.

Just the one run from the over but no real threat for Bell or Trott.

  13. Hampshire off to a flyerpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks 184 v Hants 13-0

Five runs come from Ben Coad's over, Joe Weatherley picking up a single off the first and Oliver Soames getting four off the second.

Jack Brooks is bowling as a Yorkshire player for the final time at Headingley is this game - he joins Somerset next year.

It's not a great start as he's hit for successive boundaries by Weatherley.

    Sussex v Warwks 281-2

Trott picks up another boundary, this time off Archer, to move on to 73. He's looked comfortable most of the time - before the new ball at any rate.

Two slips and a third man in place for Robinson as Ian Bell picks up a single off his first ball.

Trott picks up another three runs.

A minimum of seven overs left in the day's play.

  17. Division Two updatepublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

Away from Hove and Canterbury, Middlesex opener Sam Robson has finally departed at Lord's, falling for 134 to Derbyshire's Tony Palladino, who also removed Robert White with his next delivery. James Harris survived the hat-trick ball and Middlesex are 298-5.

Leicestershire have lost another wicket against Durham with Ben Mike lbw to Gareth Harte for 20, and they are 260-7 in the 79th over.

The umpires are currently inspecting at Bristol, where rain and bad light has meant only 43 overs so far, with Gloucestershire 91-8 against Northants.

  18. wicket

WICKET Brooks (b Abbott) 14published at 16:47 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks 184 v Hants

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Jack Brooks aims an almighty swipe down to long on off Kyle Abbott and inside edges on to his stumps, ripping out the off peg.

A great match so far for Hampshire who are certain to stay up if they make 350 - but that would be a Herculean effort on this surface.

  19. The tail attackspublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks 184-9 v hants

Jack Brooks clatters Edwards through the covers for four and picks up three off the next ball for good measure. Is 200 still on here?

That would be more than handy on this wicket.

Coad picks up another single and that takes the partnership to 20 in two overs.

Make that 24 - as Coad pushes Edwards through point for his four.

  20. Yorkshire nine downpublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks 171-9 v Hants

Well, that's not a bad start!

Ben Coad steers his first ball just wide of the slips and down to third man for four. He gets a single off his second ball (and the 6th in the over) in the same region for one.

The batsmen trade in singles off the first two balls of Kyle Abbott's over and Coad picks up a couple more off the third.
