    Glamorgan 186 v Kent 32-1

Promotion-chasing Kent lose their first wicket at Canterbury as Timm van der Gugten produces a delivery which bounces a little more than Sean Dickson expected and he can only edge to first slip.

The new batsman is Joe Denly, who is being talked about in terms of a place in England's squad for Sri Lanka. Based on recent newspaper quotes, head coach Trevor Bayliss knows who he is - so that's a good start.

Since making 96 and 178 not out in a second XI game last month, Tom Westley has been back to something like his old self for Essex.

He follows an unbeaten 110 against Notts last week, by reaching a 117-ball fifty with a single off Wayne Parnell, and celebrates later in the over with the fifth boundary of his innings.

  5. wicket

WICKET Patterson (b Edwards) 9published at 16:33 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks 160-9 v Hants

The end is nigh for the Yorkshire innings as Steven Patterson becomes the sixth batsman to be castled.

  6. Can Sussex make the new ball count?published at 16:31 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 258-2

Jofra Archer takes the new ball at the other end and bowls a maiden.

Good ball from Robinson who really hits the deck and gets one to seam and bounce away from Trott sharply.

He loses the radar a bit with the next ball and Trott tucks him round the corner for four.

Trott is beaten twice more off successive balls from Robinson and the batsman is staring ruefully at the pitch.

  7. 50 runs

for Dean Elgarpublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Surrey 305-3 v Somerset

Two runs off Tom Abell and there is a 74-ball half-century for Dean Elgar, the fourth Surrey batsman to reach 50 in the innings - but will he be the first to convert it into a ton?

The new ball is only five overs away and Somerset need to make good use of it if they are to deny the new champions maximum batting points.

  8. Yorkshire eight down at Headingleypublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks 155-8 v Hants

Jack Brooks gets a couple of runs off Fidel Edwards and the bowler responds with a quicker ball that goes straight through him, but the stumps are intact.

Edwards pushes the ball out wider and Brooks slashes the ball through the covers for two more.

    Surrey 300-3 v Somerset

Batting point number three for Surrey arrives in the 73rd over at Taunton as Dean Elgar helps himself to a single off Tom Abell. It also carries the South African to 47 not out, with partner Ollie Pope on 12.

  10. New ball taken at Hovepublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 254-2

We've just had a drinks break at Hove and Ollie Robinson takes the new ball after one loosener. Can Sussex strike now?

    This partnership is worth 150.

Trott gets right behind the line and plays watchfully to mid on.

The next ball seams away and beats Trott outside off stump.

Another play and miss but Trott survives the over.

That's about the only time he's looked in trouble in this innings.

  11. Crawley makes fast startpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Glamorgan 186 v Kent 19-0

Kent opener Zak Crawley is certainly in a hurry at Canterbury. He's made 18 off nine balls so far with four boundaries, including three in the same over from Michael Hogan. Sean Dickson has a sedate two not out from 10 at the other end.

  13. Division Two round-uppublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

Away from Hove and Canterbury, here's the latest in Division Two:

Northamptonshire continue to be frustrated by bad light after reducing Gloucestershire to 91-8 this afternoon.

Craig Miles (17) and David Payne (4) will return to the crease when the light improves. Brett Hutton has 4-47 to date.

Middlesex have lost a third wicket against Derbyshire with Dawid Malan caught by Luis Reece off the bowling of Hardus Viljoen for 16.

Sam Robson is still there on 120 not out and Max Holden has an unbeaten 38 as the home side have reached 249-3.

Durham have taken their 6th Leicestershire wicket, with the hosts struggling on 227-6 after a promising stand of 77 between Harry Dearden and Neil Dexter.

Harry Dearden was the last man out, caught behind off the bowling of Mark Wood for 32. Neil Dexter was dislodged one over beforehand, lbw to Gareth Harte for 43.

  14. Pope settling inpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Surrey 285-3 v Somerset

No major alarms for Surrey in the early overs after tea at Taunton. Dean Elgar is 36 not out and England's Ollie Pope has just reached double figures with an extravagant cut shot for four off Jamie Overton. Could those two be team-mates in Sri Lanka next month?

Having removed Murali Vijay for 85 just before tea, Worcestershire are given a second boost as Ed Barnard, bowling with the keeper standing up, has Dan Lawrence leg-before.

Tom Westley is just four runs short of a half-century as Ravi Bopara joins him in the middle.

  16. Wells returnspublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 244-2

Luke Wells is operating from the Sea End as Sussex look to keep it tight before the second new ball.

Trott cuts him away to point for a comfortable single.

Bell is well forward in defense.

A rare loose ball from Wells is pulled through mid wicket for four and Bell keeps the strike with a single off the 6th ball on the leg side.

WICKET Murphy (c Kuhn b Henry) 80published at 15:58 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Glamorgan 186 v Kent

Kent claim their third bowling point as Joe Denly twirls one up, Timm van der Gugten pushes forward, gets an edge, and Sean Dickson manages to cling onto the catch despite moving slightly too far right and having to snatch it low to his left.

The Glamorgan innings comes to an end in the next over as Jack Murphy, having batted for over four and a quarter hours for his 80, smashes Matt Henry back over his head and is taken by Heino Kuhn at long-off.

Henry now has 70 wickets this season at a cost of just 14.75 runs each.

First job done for Kent, who will now look to build a sizeable lead. Promotion could be theirs this week.

  18. wicket

WICKET Waite c Alsop b Edwards 22published at 15:56 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks 136-7 v Hants

Waite looks to be in the mood as he crunches Edwards off the back foot through the covers for four - and he's gone!

An entertaining cameo from Matthew Waite is ended by Fidel Edwards, who has him caught behind off a loose defensive prod.

The new man is Steven Patterson.
