We asked whether it was time for Essex's Jamie Porter to ge given a chance at Test level by England after another superb bowling performance this morning against Worcestershire.

Here's what a couple of you think.

From Charles Fairs: "Surely Porter's ability to hit the top of off stump 6 balls out of 6 will be more useful on the flat pitches in Sri Lanka than any of our swing bowlers? #bbccricket, external."

From Paul Wragg: "If @EssexCricket, external Jamie porter isn’t playing for England soon then something is very wrong. #BBCCricket, external"

  2. Hampshire bowl first at Headingleypublished at 12:57 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks 19-0 v Hants

Fidel Edwards is a bit too full and Raval pushes him into the off side for four and tucks the next ball onto the on side for one.

The wind my well be affecting the radar here as the next two balls drift harmlessly down leg.

Solid start for Yorkshire, who ideally need maximum bonus points to avoid the drop to Division Two.

Ooh! Edwards gets one to shape back in and hit Lyth on the thigh pad via the inside edge. This will be hard work...

  3. Robson hits half-centurypublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Middlesex 102-1 v Derbyshire

There's little but pride to play for at Lord's where Middlesex have enjoyed a good morning against Derbyshire. Sam Robson and Nick Gubbins put on 64 before the latter was trapped leg-before by Hardus Viljoen for 20.

It was Derbyshire's sole success of the session with Robson progressing to 58 not out and Sam Eskinazi making an unbeaten 19.

  4. Surrey openers on toppublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Surrey 109-0 v Somerset

Surrey batted like champions on the opening morning at Taunton, with skipper Rory Burns just 19 runs short of reaching 1300 runs for the season after contributing 40 not out to an unbroken opening partnership.

But the would-be England opener played second fiddle to Mark Stoneman, who already knows what it's like to play Test cricket, as the former Durham batsman collected nine fours in his unbeaten 66.

It could be a long afternoon for Somerset unless they can end this partnership soon.

  5. Yorkshire batting at Headingleypublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks 8-0 v Hants

80 overs in the day's play after rain this morning.

Adam Lyth drives to pick up a four off the first ball of the match and blocks out the rest of the over.

Fidel Edwards to bowl to Jeet Raval... He starts with a no ball.

It's very blustery here as Edwards bails out of his run up.

Raval gets a thick outside edge to cover point for a couple.

That'll settle the nerves for him and the team.

  6. 'Absorbing' contest at Hovepublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Warwickshire 102-2 v Sussex - lunch

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex commentator

An absorbing opening session played under cloudy skies and with the floodlights on, which made it slightly surprising that Warwickshire opted to bat first

However, the pitch looks a good one and so it proved with Will Rhodes and Dominic Sibley sharing a largely untroubled opening partnership of 96.

Both then departed within the space of six runs to leave Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott a tricky last few overs to negotiate before lunch.

  7. 'Porter's accuracy pays dividends'published at 12:44 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Worcestershire 94 v Essex - lunch

    Jamie PorterImage source, Rex Features

If Jamie Porter wasn’t already on the plane to Sri Lanka, then the England selectors surely can’t ignore this morning’s performance.

His 7-41 are career-best figures for the Essex paceman and three times he sent stumps cartwheeling out of the ground.

Porter’s consistent accuracy paid dividends as the visiting batsmen found him almost unplayable.

The comedy run out of Ollie Westbury, when he found himself at the same end as his partner Joe Clarke, only served to underline Worcestershire’s miserable morning after they had won the toss.

  8. Helene causing problems in Leicesterpublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Leicestershire 80-2 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

It is nice and sunny in Leicester, but boy is it windy, so much so that the stand is vibrating and although Durham put the hosts in, bowling has been difficult.

Barry McCarthy produced an entire over' s worth of dead balls, running in six times only to be beaten by ex- hurricane Helene as he reached the delivery stride.

Home skipper Paul Horton is missing this game for family reasons so Colin Ackermann is standing in for him. Leicestershire lost opener Sam Evans for 10 and Ackermann for 18, but Ateeq Javid will resume after lunch on 43.

  9. Play underway at Leedspublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks v Hants

A bit of pressure for the White Rose county, who begin this match in need of a win to be sure of escaping relegation.

Hampshire meanwhile need four points to avoid the drop.

Adam Lyth and Jeet Raval to open the batting, with the former facing Kyle Abbott.

  10. wicket

WICKET Pennington (c Vijay b Harmer) 0published at 12:35 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Worcestershire 94 v Essex - lunch

The plain facts are these. Worcestershire's first innings lasted just 25.3 overs and Essex paceman Jamie Porter took 7-41 from 10 overs.

The final wicket, though, goes to spinner Simon Harmer as last man Dillon Pennington edges to first slip, leaving Ben Twohig unbeaten on 17.

Worcestershire's failure to earn any batting points means the highest total they can achieve this summer is 139, so they cannot catch Essex, whose place in Division One for next summer is a certainty.

  11. 'Tale of woe' for Glamorganpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Glamorgan 86-5 v Kent

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

Promotion-chasing Kent posed their usual early threat with the ball, with Matt Henry claiming three wickets, despite Glamorgan’s decision to bat first with another reshuffled top order.

Darren Stevens bowled former Kent second team player Nick Selman for one, before Henry switched ends and found success bowling up the slope.

The New Zealand paceman had opener Stephen Cook caught at slip for 20 and Kiran Carlson dismissed the same way for six

Henry then had Harry Podmore to thank as Jeremy Lawlor on 15 was superbly caught at mid-wicket, and Chris Cooke edged Grant Stewart to Sam Billings the ball before lunch.

Jack Murphy was unbeaten on 36 but it was another tale of woe for Glamorgan.

  12. Lunch at Hovepublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 102-2

Ian Bell blocks out the final over of the morning session - bowled by Danny Briggs.

Sussex will be relieved to have seen the back of the Warwickshire openers after the visitors put on 96 at a rate of nearly four an over this morning.

Dom Sibley will be fuming after holing out to Michael Burgess off a lofted drive and David Wiese produced a jaffa to castle Will Rhodes.

Honours even - or the visitors still on top?

  13. wicket

WICKET Tongue (c Lawrence b Porter) 0published at 12:30 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Worcestershire 93-9 v Essex

Catching practice for Dan Lawrence at third slip as Josh Tongue is forced onto the back foot by Jamie Porter and the ball takes the edge. That's seven wickets for Porter now - and he's in with a chance of the best figures of the season, currently 8-51 by Durham's Chris Rushworth against Sussex.

  14. Century stand for Surrey pairpublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Surrey 105-0 v Somerset

Mark Stoneman's ninth boundary of the morning brings up a hundred partnership with Rory Burns at Taunton. Somerset have tried five bowlers so far to try and separate the two left-handers but to no avail.

Stoneman is now 64 not out and Burns has 39. Many people seem convinced that Burns will be picked for England's tour to Sri Lanka, but could Stoneman make the trip too?

  15. Sussex fight backpublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 102-2

Danny Briggs gets a ball to fizz and turn away from Ian Bell's bat, but the Warwickshire number three survives. Maiden over.

David Wiese to bowl his seventh over. Jonathan Trott defends.

Hmm... The odd ball is starting to keep a bit low here.

  16. wicket

WICKET Rhodes b Wiese 50published at 12:20 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 102-2

It's 50 and out for Will Rhodes as David Wiese gets a ball to cut back sharply off the seam and bowl the opener through the gate.

It looked like Warwickshire's morning by a distance a few minutes ago. Not so much now.

Jonathan Trott joins Ian Bell in the middle.

  17. 50 runs

50 for Will Rhodespublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 98-1

That's his 6th score of 50 or more in the Championship this season.

He gets there off 79 balls with a lovely late cut off David Wiese down to backward point for his seventh four.

  18. wicket

WICKET Clarke (b Porter) 28published at 12:16 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Worcestershire 83-8 v Essex

Jamie Porter hits the stumps for the fourth time this morning as Joe Clarke is deceived by one which ducks back into him off the pitch. Porter now has 6-36 from eight overs. They are oiling the hinges of the relegation trap door for Worcestershire.

WICKET Lawlor (c Podmore b Henry) 15published at 12:13 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Glamorgan 79-4 v Kent

Three wickets now for Kent's Matt Henry as Jeremy Lawlor plays too soon and is caught by a diving Harry Podmore at mid-on from a leading edge. Chris Cooke is the new Glamorgan batsman, with Jack Murphy 33 not out at the other end.

  20. wicket

WICKET Sibley c Burgess b Briggs 44published at 12:11 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 96-1

There's the breakthrough for Sussex - and it's been gifted to them to be honest.

Dominic Sibley tries to loft a drive off Danny Briggs down to long on and holes out to Michael Burgess.

Not a bad way for the bowler to start his 100th first class match.

Sibley gives the bat a thump in frustration as he leaves the field.
