  1. Sibley and Rhodes on top at Hovepublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 47-0

Jordan strays down leg and Sibley picks up a four through mid wicket to move to 24.

It remains gloomy and blustery at Hove but the batsmen are looking solid so far.

  2. Henry takes a breatherpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Glamorgan 20-1 v Kent

It's a minor 'victory' for Glamorgan at Canterbury as they have managed to negotiate Matt Henry's initial four-over spell without the New Zealander adding to his 66 Championship wickets. Harry Podmore is on as first change, and Jack Murphy collects the first run of his innings after facing 22 dot balls.

  3. Sibley survives tough test from Archerpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 40-0

Dom Sibley is beaten outside the off stump by Jofra Archer.

That wasn't far away from the edge. Sibley is beaten again!

Shot! Archer bowls a fuller length and Sibley clips him through mid wicket for four. The batsman picks up a couple more through the off side to move to 20.

  4. Jordan joins the attackpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 34-0

Chris Jordan is limbering up in the field, so we might have a bowling change shortly... Yes, he's coming on to replace Robinson.

Rhodes gets a single down to fine leg and Sibley gets one more in the same region. So far so good for the visitors.

  5. Porter's bowling precisionpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Worcestershire 21-4 v Essex

Essex have made a great start against Worcestershire at Chelmsford and here's a video of Jamie Porter's third wicket of the morning (see also 10:49 entry).

Don't know if he models himself on Glenn McGrath but his ability to constantly repeat an excellent line and length and hit off stump is certainly reminiscent of the great Australian.

Ben Cox - the hero of T20 Blast Finals Day - is now at the crease for Worcestershire with Joe Clarke.

  6. Burns back in the groovepublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Surrey 18-0 v Somerset

Division One bowlers must be sick of the sight of Rory Burns this summer, so consistent has the Surrey captain's batting been. He's already into double figures at Taunton, helped by a couple of boundaries off Craig Overton, one through mid-wicket and the other effortlessly flicked down to fine leg off his hip..

  7. Rain delays the start at Headingleypublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks v Hants

    Mm, this doesn't look good.

We've got half a dozen ground staff out in the middle at the moment covering the square on both sides as the rain continues.

  8. Solid start for the Bearspublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 28-0

Dom Sibley gets a thick inside edge off Robinson for his first boundary. He steers the next ball to third man for a single.

Runs are hard to come by from this bowler so far, but we're down to two slips at Hove now nonetheless.

  9. Rhodes opens up for Warwickshirepublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 22-0

Lovely shot by Will Rhodes, who drives a slightly over-pitched ball from Jofra Archer down the ground for four. That takes him to 16.

Ollie Robinson to bowl his fourth over next.

  10. More rain at Headingleypublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks v Hants

Not much to report here so far. We had hoped for a 10:45 BST start but that's been stopped by a bit of rain.

Light rain so far, so fingers crossed this is only a small delay.

  11. wicket

WICKET Milton (b Porter) 0published at 10:49 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Worcestershire 12-4 v Essex

I bet Saturday's T20 Blast triumph seems a long time ago now for Worcestershire.

That is an absolute peach from Jamie Porter, which just does enough off the seam to beat Alex Milton's outside edge and rips out his off stump.

Three wickets in the over and Division One's bottom club are in total disarray.

  12. wicket

WICKET Westbury (run out) 4published at 10:48 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Worcestershire 12-3 v Essex

    Ollie WestburyImage source, Rex Features

Absolute chaos. Joe Clarke calls Ollie Westbury for a third run. He declines and they both end up at the same end. Jamie Porter's throw to the keeper isn't a good one and he fails to gather cleanly, but still has an absolute age to remove the bails.

The umpires have to consult about which batsman is out and eventually it's Westbury who is sent on his way. Unless he's a very well brought up young man, the words going through his head at the moment are probably quite earthy.

  13. Robinson searches for wicketspublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 13-0

Dom Sibley is tucked up a bit by Ollie Robinson but the ball lands safely and the opener plays and misses the next ball.

Beaten again outside the off stump. Robinson has 65 wickets in the championship this summer so far and looks good for more here.

Sibley gets a thick edge to third man for a couple to end the over.

  14. wicket

WICKET Mitchell (c Wheater b Porter) 6published at 10:45 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Worcestershire 10-2 v Essex

Both Worcestershire openers are gone and we're only in the third over at Chelmsford.

Daryl Mitchell prods forward in unconvincing fashion, a thin edge and Jamie Porter has his second victim.

Porter has been in the England squad this summer without winning a Test cap - surely the first one can't be too far in the future.

  15. wicket

WICKET Selman (b Stevens) 1published at 10:42 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Glamorgan 8-1 v Kent

Darren Stevens recently signed a new deal to carry on playing for Kent next summer - and the 42-year-old underlines his value to the promotion-chasing home side by bowling Glamorgan opener Nick Selman off the inside edge in the fourth over at Canterbury.

Jack Murphy is the new batsman for the Welsh county, who are without all-rounder David Lloyd because of a broken finger.

  16. No toss at Bristolpublished at 10:42 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

Northamptonshire have chosen to bowl first without the need of a toss in their away game against Gloucestershire. Early rain left the ground a little damp but the umpires hope to be under way shortly. James Bracey will keep wicket for the home side, with Gareth Roderick not in the XI.

  17. Steady start for Warwickshirepublished at 10:41 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warks 7-0

Sussex have decided to employ a third man and three slips as they try to get an early breakthrough.

The weather is distinctly "mizzly" as the spectators are largely huddled in sheltered parts of the ground.

Ollie Robinson goes round the wicket to Will Rhodes, who pushes the ball to mid on.

Just seven runs in the innings so far.

  18. wicket

WICKET Fell (b Porter) 0published at 10:35 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Worcestershire 1-1 v Essex

    Jamie PorterImage source, Rex Features

Worcestershire need every possible point from their game against last summer's champions, but that certainly isn't the start they'd have been hoping for as Essex paceman Jamie Porter removes Tom Fell's off stump with the fourth ball of the opening over. Fell pushes forward in defence, but he's fractionally late with the stroke and it nips between bat and pad.

  19. Kent look for early wicketspublished at 10:35 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Glamorgan 4-0 v Kent

It would be entirely understandable if Glamorgan's openers have a bit of apprehension at facing the Championship's leading wicket-taker (Matt Henry) in the middle of September. Stephen Cook negotiates the first over safely, though, and picks up a boundary from the final delivery.

  20. Cook to leave Durham at end of seasonpublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

Durham director of cricket Geoff Cook will leave his post at the end of the season as part of a club restructure.
