We asked earlier if anyone knew what the fastest five-for was after Jamie Porter's five in 4.4 overs against Worcestershire this morning. Here are a few suggestions.

From Edward Barron: "Ryan Patel holds the record for fastest 5 for at 11 balls taken for Surrey vs Somerset in June! (Finished with figures of 3.2-2-5-6). Previous record was MA Noble at 12 balls on way to 7/17 for aus vs eng in 1901/02. Porter has a way to go! #bbccricket, external."

From Luke Almond: "Broad’s first 5 at Trent Bridge took just 19 balls (3.1 overs) in 2015, so Porter’s effort is good, but certainly not a record #bbccricket, external"

From Phil Robinson: "#bbccricket, external Jacques Kallis once took 5 wickets in 2 overs I seem to recall..."

  4. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

Aside from Hove and Canterbury, here's the latest in our matches in Division Two...

Middlesex opener Sam Robson is going well against Derbyshire at Lord's, moving on to 43 not out with the home side on 65-1 after 20 overs.

Nick Gubbins is the man out, lbw to Hardus Viljoen for 20.

Leicestershire have lost their first wicket against Durham, with Chris Rushworth trapping 20-year-old Sam Evans leg before for 10.

The home side have recovered slightly to 55-1 in after overs.

Gloucestershire are struggling on 32-3 against Northants following a delayed start at Bristol, with Miles Hammond, James Bracey and Benny Howell all back in the pavilion.

Ben Sanderson has 2-9 to date, while Brett Hutton has 1-22 after having Hammond caught behind for a duck in the second over of the match.

  5. Henry strikes againpublished at 11:53 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Glamorgan 51-3 v Kent

While we were describing Wayne Parnell's downfall at Chelmsford, promotion-chasing Kent secured their first bowling point against Glamorgan with Matt Henry having Kiran Carlson caught at first slip by a tumbling Sean Dickson for six.

Jack Murphy is still there on 22 for the Welsh county as Jeremy Lawlor comes to the middle for only his third Championship innings of the summer.

  6. Play held up by rain at Headingleypublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks v Hants

The latest is play is due to start at 12:40 after the rain has finally relented (for now at least).

A frustrating day all round but still a proud one for Yorkshire's Ben Coad, who received his county cap this morning.

WICKET Parnell (lbw Cook) 20published at 11:48 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Worcestershire 60-7 v Essex

We spoke too soon (see 11:45 entry). Wayne Parnell shapes to clip a ball from Sam Cook through mid-wicket, misses, and that's a formality for the umpire. Worcestershire in deep trouble as Ben Twohig shuffles - perhaps reluctantly - to the crease.

  8. Sussex turn to Wiesepublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 77-0

Ollie Robinson beats Will Rhodes outside the off stump but Warwickshire still have all ten wickets intact.

David Wiese enters the fray and Dom Sibley is forward to defend a slower ball. Looked to be in two minds with that one but he survives.

  9. Worcs pair look to rebuildpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Worcestershire 58-6 v Essex

After what has gone before, this is a substantial partnership for Worcestershire, with Joe Clarke (16) and Wayne Parnell (19) having so far added 26. Parnell has hit four boundaries so far, but there is a very, very long way for them to go if they are to get anywhere near the sort of total that would bring them the healthy haul of batting bonus points that they need.

Essex, by the way, already have two of the four points they need to be mathematically certain of staying up in Division One next season.

  10. Solid start by Surrey openerspublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Surrey 53-0 v Somerset

    Rory BurnsImage source, Getty Images

He may have scored over 1200 Championship runs this summer, but it seems Rory Burns has still to convince some members of the Twitterati that he's the right man to replace Alastair Cook in England's Test side (see below).

Whatever Alex's doubts about his technique, he is there on 19 not out as a boundary by Mark Stoneman off spinner Jack Leach raises a half-century opening partnership for Surrey. Stoneman, who has been much more like his old self of late, moves on to 32.

From Alex White: "I’ve watched an hour of Rory Burns and here is my official ECB scouting report: Massive mankad candidate."

  11. Warwickshire hold firmpublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 69-0

Will Rhodes is well forward to defend against Chris Jordan, seemingly with all the time in the world.

It wouldn't have been a given to bat first at a grey and windy Hove but the choice looks to be a sound one.

    Glamorgan 37-2 v Kent

Former South Africa opener Stephen Cook won't want to watch many repeats of that stroke. He flirts with a ball outside off stump and moving further away and edges it to Ollie Robinson in the slips. Wicket number 67 for the season for Kent's Matt Henry.

  14. No early wickets at Hovepublished at 11:30 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 64-0

Will Rhodes aims a flashing drive outside off stump off Chris Jordan but misses.

Jordan tries a bouncer and Rhodes ducks.

Lovely shot from Rhodes who drives Jordan's next ball off the back foot through the off side for four.

Good start for the Division Two leaders.

  15. No play at Headingley this morningpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Yorks v Hants

A reminder to Yorkshire and Hampshire supporters that our game at Headingley is still held up by rain.

  16. Warwickshire bat at blustery Hovepublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 59-0

It's looking distinctly gloom here at Hove as Ollie Robinson runs in from a blustery Sea End. The floodlights are on.

Will Rhodes is squared up and pushes the ball to the on side for one.

Dom Sibley drives the last ball safely to mid off for one more.

  17. Close call for Sibleypublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Sussex v Warwks 57-0

Dom Sibley is surprised by a bit of extra bounce from Jordan and he edges the ball just over the slips for a lucky run.

Rhodes picks up a single off the fourth ball and Sibley defends.

  18. for Jamie Porterpublished at 11:18 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Worcestershire 32-6 v Essex

    Ed BarnardImage source, Rex Features

Wonder what the fastest five-for is in first-class cricket?

It has taken Essex's Jamie Porter 4.4 overs to complete one after trapping Ben Cox lbw for 12 and then bowling Ed Barnard first ball.

Absolutely magnificent stuff by the Essex paceman - but there is no hat-trick as Wayne Parnell is beaten but fails to get a touch to the next one.

  19. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

Away from Hove and Canterbury, there is also action in the other three matches.

Middlesex opener Sam Robson is going well against Derbyshire at Lord's, moving on to 31 not out in the 11th over in his side's 34-0.

Leicestershire have lost their first wicket against Durham, with Chris Rushworth - who else? - trapping 20-year-old Sam Evans leg before for 10. The home side are 31-1 in the 11th over.

Gloucestershire opener Miles Hammond was caught behind for a duck off Northamptonshire's Brett Hutton following a delayed start at Bristol, but they are now 3-1 in the fourth over.

  20. Rain delays play at Headingleypublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

There's going to be an early lunch here in Leeds as rain continues to fall around the ground. The weather is set fair this afternoon.
