  1. dropped catch

Dhananjaya dropped on 35published at 27 overs

It would have been an incredible - absolutely outrageous, in fact - catch, but Ben Stokes drops Dhananjaya de Silva.

Dhananjaya ends up chipping one over Stokes' head at cover and the all-rounder throws himself back one-handed, getting a hand to the ball, but can't cling on.

The Cricket Social team are going to take a look at Australia shortly, with the help of broadcaster Adam Collins. Always worth checking in down under... especially with an Ashes series on the horizon next summer.

We've got a game within a game here, and suddenly Sri Lanka sniff an opportunity...

173-5 after 30 overs will see them level on Duckworth Lewis. It's going to rain, it just depends when. Could they do it?!

  5. SL 133-5published at 26 overs

    Thisara 40, Dhananjaya 33

The rain has eased but there is a very dark cloud behind the main stand. The DLS score at the end of the last over was 167. That's why Perera has started slogging.

And again! Even bigger from Thisara Perera this time. Eoin Morgan comes and puts his arm around his bowler.

    Target 279

Whack! Thisara Perera greets Adil Rashid into this series by clubbing him for a massive six. That brings up the 50 partnership. Can Sri Lanka win this?

  8. Postpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 13 October 2018

Adil Rashid is replacing Olly Stone. This is the first we've seen of England's leg-spinner.

Thanks Tim. That was a marathon 50-over effort. Like Alastair Cook in the Dubai heat. Remember him?

Just to confirm. We can now forget about the reserve day. This match will be finished today which is excellent news for those who would have had to come to work for 4:30 tomorrow for the game to be continued.

    Dhananjaya 32 Thisara 27

Moeen rips an off break between Thisara's pad, the bat, the stumps, Buttler's gloves, everything, for a bye.

That's me done, so get ready for Matt Henry, who's pawing the ground impatiently at the end of his long run to take you to the end of the match.

    Dhananjaya 32 Thisara 25

This is a nice contest within a contest between Thisara and Stone, who drops short only to see the left-hander hook him high over square leg for a delicious six.

  12. SL 108-5published at 23 overs

    Dhananjaya 31 Thisara 18

Moeen Ali has four taken from his latest over as the umpires Paul Reiffel and Ranmore Martinesz look around gloomily.

It has been drizzling steadily for a few minutes. The hills behind the stand have almost disappeared. We have a game within a game now. Sri Lanka need to be up with DLS.

They were 58 runs behind DLS after 22 overs but after 30 overs they only need to be at 173 if they are still five wickets down.

  14. SL 104-5published at 22 overs

    Dhananjaya 29 Thisara 16

Thisara Perera isn't fazed by Olly Stone's pace and stands back a touch to swat the quickie over mid-on to the boundary.

The rain is still falling, and the wind is whipping up. 163 is the par score at this stage on DLS, so England are a long way in front.

Stone has a really nice, natural, smooth action. It doesn't look like he is taking a huge amount out of his body.

Moeen concedes just a single, and the impressive Olly Stone limbers up to replace Liam Dawson.

How do you prepare for a Test series?

Before a Test tour I do a day-on day-off in the gym. Before the India series I did a 100m sprint in 20 seconds, 20-second break and then another 100m sprint. I would do that six times like an over. I would do five sets of that to replicate bowling a spell.

We are now into Duckworth-Lewis-Stern territory, and we will have a result today come what may after another rapidly-taken over from Liam Dawson.

Moeen completes his over and the fielders sprint into position as the rain gets a bit heavier. We need 20 overs to have a result today...

Would like you have liked to play in the IPL?

Yes, just get feel of what it is like. I went in auction once but there was no interest so didn't go in again. There was no real drive for me to make myself into a brilliant T20 player. I wanted to make myself the best Test player I could.

I went in the auction because everyone was doing it and the money looked good.
