A groan of disappointment greeted what was possibly the worst hat-trick ball in history. Sri Lanka's fans may not be watching the golden generation of Jayawardene, Sangakkara et al, but they still have high hopes from this side and are as passionate as you'd expect.

Mike Brearley is regarded as one of England's greatest captains and will be on The Cricket Social at 08:30 BST.

Brearley, the author of the book The Art of Captaincy, will be discussing Eoin Morgan's captaincy in particular.

Morgan has revolutionised the England one-day team, taking them to number one in the world, but this week said he would consider dropping himself if it benefited the team.

Joe Root has said he does not agree with that idea. He said Morgan is a brilliant leader and should always play.

It's a no-ball, a free hit but Dhananjaya de Silva throws the stumps down. Woakes looks nervously, but he's safe.

That was right on the money by Malinga with his slower ball. As a new batsman you want something you can pick up easily first ball but he has got that horrible action and you don't get that chance.

That was an interesting innings from Eoin Morgan. In the first portion he struggled and was scratching around. He stuck at it and that is what is good with him. He had gone well and will be bit gutted to have missed out on a century.

Though the sun is still shining brightly, the army of ground staff has just gone to have a look at the covers. This may be entirely routine, but I think we can be forgiven for being a bit sensitive about the weather... We'll keep you posted.

Lasith Malinga looks a little thicker around the middle than back in the day, but he's 35 and generally that's what happens, I can assure you. He made his ODI debut in Dambulla in July 2004, and a tidy over concedes just three runs.

I'm calling it - 300 and plenty is very much on now, whereas earlier it looked in the balance. Eoin Morgan hits Akila Dananjaya over a static Lasith Malinga at mid on for four, then slog-sweeps another from outside off stump.

Jos Buttler's in and off the mark, but Nuwan Pradeep's extra pace gives the keeper and the captain a bit more to think about.

And we haven't mentioned the weather for a bit have we? It's still sunny, thankfully.
