    SL 215-2published at 33 overs

    Chandimal 34, Mendis 24

But this one is just a bad ball.

A full toss from Ben Stokes is given the treatment. Kusal Mendis launches this one over long on. This time Stokes looks to the skies in frustration.

England look like they're going to be chasing 350-plus. It's time for a rousing speech from Buttler at drinks.

  2. SL 208-2published at 32.2 overs

That's really unlucky for Ben Stokes. He does Dinesh Chandimal with a slower ball bouncer but the Sri Lanka captain top edges over Buttler for four.

Stokes stands halfway down the pitch with his hands on his head. That's the first boundary he has conceded.

  3. SL 204-2published at 32 overs

    Run rate: 6.66

It seems slower balls are going to be the go-to deliveries from Sam Curran. He loops them up outside off stump and Chandimal and Mendis can't get the ball away.

It's a good over from Sammy C. Just three runs come from it with three dot balls.

Joe Root says he wants to bowl more but England might have missed a trick not getting him on with Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis new to the crease.

Moeen Ali is being saved for later too. Here's Sam Curran. He conceded 27 from three overs with the new ball.

  6. Sl 201-2published at 31 overs

    Chandimal 27, Mendis 14

The concern for England will also be that Moeen Ali, their bowler who has taken the two wickets, and Adil Rashid, their most economical bowler so far, have both bowled eight overs. They don't have many left.

With Stokes returning, it looks like Buttler is going to keep Rashid's last two overs back for a bit.

Stokes is bowling well though. Again he concedes just one from his over.

That was a mis-hit by Kusal Mendis but the boundary ropes are so far in, it's gone for six. That's happening a lot in ODI cricket nowadays.

  8. 6 runs

    SL 200-2published at 30 overs

    Big! Really big!

A slog sweep from Kusal Mendis off Moeen goes all the way. That brings up the Sri Lankan 200. The crowd are loving it.

Jos Buttler looks slightly concerned as he removes his helmet and tells Ben Stokes to come into the attack.

I think 400 is outside of Sri Lanka's compass here but 350 is still very much on.

That would make for a very entertaining run chase.

  10. SL 192-2published at 29.3 overs

Now Kusal Mendis goes on the attack. It's a rare bad ball from Moeen, who drops a little short. Mendis rocks back and clobbers it to the mid-wicket boundary for four.

  11. SL 187-2published at 29 overs

    Rashid 8-0-36-0

I think Eoin Morgan is now back in the dressing room after a brief spell on as a substitute. Stand-in captain Jos Buttler barks out orders from behind the stumps. Rashid continues to twirl away and finds some big turn but Chandimal plays him well.

    Nine from the over.

  12. 6 runs

    SL 184-2published at 28.2 overs

    He's hit that one better!

Chandimal goes for the reverse sweep again, this time off Adil Rashid, and clears the rope. He's down on one leg as he hits it but with fast hands gets the ball to go all the way.

It's not quite as sunny as it was, with high clouds rolling over the Premadasa Stadium. And the clouds aren't the only arrivals - slowly but surely the blue and yellow seats around this ground are filling up with spectators.

  14. SL 178-2published at 28 overs

    Chandimal 16, Mendis 2

Dinesh Chandimal relives some of the pressure.

Moeen's next over starts with three more dots but the Sri Lanka captain then hacks away a reverse sweep for four.

It wasn't pretty but did the job.

  15. SL 172-2published at 27 overs

But Ben Stokes' spell ends after just one over. Adil Rashid comes back. He has bamboozled Kusal Mendis so far in this series. Dinesh Chandimal is on strike for this over though and only manages to add two runs.

The last three overs have only cost four runs.

Today is the fourth time England have conceded 166 off 25 overs in ODIs.

Once in 2015, once in 2016, once in 2017 and now, with their final opportunity to do so this year, once in 2018.

  17. SL 170-2published at 26 overs

    Chandimal 9, Mendis 1

Ben Stokes has to take a lot of the credit for that wicket too. The previous over went for just one and increased the pressure on Dickwella. The opener had just started to get stuck.

Sri Lanka still have a brilliant platform. Can someone take this on and post a big score?

I know it hasn't quite gone to plan today but England do now have a bowling attack for all situations.

Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid are so reliable and threatening in all conditions.

Dickwella has fallen agonisingly short of that elusive century for Sri Lanka.
